it's not too uncommon for cars to have wires attached to blank buttons because sometimes it's cheaper to just make a blank button than to modify the wiring harness. When I had my crown vic it had the wiring for the traction control button but it didn't have a cut in the dash for the button. If you can find out what feature is supposed to be activated you can purchase the switch and hook it up and gain a feature.

Well in my car its like this. And if you want to put it in reverse you need to press the gear shifter down so you cant accidently put it in reverse.
