bitter compass

brittle totem
# civic spoke One problem I have with Tesla is that if you are buying a used one. Then you are...

Yeah that's because tesla is constantly improving their cars with new hardware and stuff like that instead of waiting a few years for a facelift or an new generation. That's a thing that i really like with Teslas that they are always improving the cars with a legacy manufacture you can buy a car with 3 years newer model year but still has the same future as the car from 3 years ago. So basically its already "outdated" when you get it.

civic spoke
#

That's still an issue in my eyes.
But one time the car could come with a radar in the front. A year later, then it could be either gone or disabled.

brittle totem
solemn inlet

Fit and finish with tesla is questionable

civic spoke

Not to mention that the whole "Auto pilot" option is a disaster. Because it's always changing, for better or worse.

solemn inlet

Just waiting for the auto pilot to be exploited and controlled lmao

brittle totem
# solemn inlet Fit and finish with tesla is questionable

It depends on where you are located to the north America ones har usually worse then the EU or china ones. The ones I have been in have mostly very solid just on of my friends dad hade on of the first model 3 in EU witch was build at fremont and that was a bit questionable. But the 2021 and up is mostly good quality wise. But the germens is still a bit ahead.

civic spoke
solemn inlet
#

Problem is I see is that if we're moving to EV. That's a lot of old fuel powered cars to scrap and prosses. Plus batteries are a problem to, but that's been said tons of times. These things don't get looked at by a lot of these people wanting EV

civic spoke
brittle totem
solemn inlet
#

EV will only work in the cities. For now.

brittle totem
solemn inlet
#

So if they ban fuel. We have billions of tons of cars that are useless

civic spoke
#

What they are going to do, is limit the amount of sales of pure ICE vehicles.

#

And then add zones where only Euro 5/6 cars are allowed to drive.

solemn inlet
#

nah, hybrid and synthetic fuels are the way

civic spoke
#

I mean, yeah.

solemn inlet
#

power grids are way under powered for it

civic spoke
#

I'm sure they are going to start zoning for cities. As they have already begun to do.

brittle totem
solemn inlet
#

Well outside of the city is gonna be pretty useless. Don't have much range once you pack on the weight on them

civic spoke
#

We just need more charging locations as a whole.

#

Once you're able to charge your vehicle at pretty much every stop that you make, then you're more than gucci.

#

Stopping at a shopping mall? Charge while you're there.
Getting some groceries? Charge 'er up.

solemn inlet
#

That'll be so annoying with trucks. 5 stops to go like 1,500km 😩

#

Idk, just have to see where the future goes. but my money is hybrid and synthetic fuels.

civic spoke
solemn inlet
#

That's why I was saying EV is great for cities

civic spoke

For now we'll have to see where we go for generating our power

#

Can't do anything till that's sorted

civic spoke
#

Yeah. EV's are only as green as where you get it from.

brittle totem
#

Range is not that big of deal that people think charging speed is way more important most people doesn't drive more then 400km with out taking a bit of an rest anyways. And if the car car change up to 80% in 10 mins would be fine for me. And we are nearly there with the cars that has support for 250-300kw/h charging we just need more chargers capable of that speeds.

stoic ledge
#

Refining gas also requires loads of electricity btw 😉

civic spoke
#

But even then. Then it can be more efficient to burn fuel to get power and power a larger community.

#

Than just individually power their own homes.

electric usage for ice cars is still drastically less but ok

civic spoke
#

PHEV is a real good way to compromise.

solemn inlet
#

screw it

stoic ledge
# solemn inlet yes but that fuel has loads more energy in it

It takes ~5-6kWh of electricity to create 1 US gal of gas... Take 6kWh, take a car which does 18kWh/100km, that 6kWh gets you 33km = ~20 miles, so the break even point is ~20 MPG US. So an EV or a car doing 20 MPG US is using the same amount of electricity

solemn inlet
#

back to steam powered we go! 🤣

civic spoke
#

PHEV might only be giving you a range of 50-100 km's. But you're supposed to hook that up at home/work whenever possible.

stoic ledge
#

That's just refining the oil to petrol, not considering the pumps, transportation etc

charred depot

I dunno here atleast id guess the average MPG is atleast double that

solemn inlet
#

If your turbo or valve/rings get bad enough

charred depot

mine pressurised the crankcase and sent oil up the breather filling the airbox

solemn inlet
charred depot
#

It had such awful compression before it took like a 2 minutes to start

solemn inlet

Every after that including the intercooler is soaked in oil

Brake Assist

During emergency braking situations when it is necessary to depress the brake pedal with greater force, the brake assist system provides braking assistance, thus enhancing braking performance.
When the brake pedal is depressed hard or depressed more quickly, the brakes apply more firmly.

NOTE
When the brake pedal is depressed hard or depressed more quickly, the pedal will feel softer but the brakes will apply more firmly. This is a normal effect of the brake assist operation and does not indicate a malfunction.
When the brake pedal is depressed hard or depressed more quickly, a motor/pump operation noise may be heard. This is a normal effect of the brake assist and does not indicate a malfunction.
The brake assist equipment does not supersede the functionality of the vehicle's main braking system.

Launch control in a parking lot sounds like a good idea. Someone at my local grocery store did that and ended up totaling their parents brand new Tesla model x because the crashed intro a tree. But they did it winter when it was really Icey so the driver cant have been the smartest person alive. Here is the tree that somehow managed to crash into head on at pretty high speed to.

brittle totem
# deep zealot and I know my car and it’s limits, as well as the road conditions

Yeah they guy that launched his parents brand new model x probably didn't know anything about the car. He thought that launching a 2,500kg car with like 700hp on a Icey parking lot was a good idea. And to get a license here in Sweden you need to to mandatory course when you get to drive on very slippery condition to so you know how it feels like to loose control over the car and how to handle does situation but he still decide to that. And I bet that his parents isn't that happy because the car was like 2 weeks old and it was right before tesla stopped delivering model x to Europe so they still hasn't got an replacement car if they decided to go for an model x again.

I see at least 5-10 model y each day in my neighborhood. They are not the best looking cars but I don't think they are that ugly the front is bit meh but the rest of the car is decent. their is roughly 7500 model y in Sweden right now. And its number 7 on best selling cars over the past year. Bit they have released a cheaper on like 2 weeks ago witch probably will sell pretty good here to because it cost less the 700,000SEK so you will get that 70,000SEK back from government to witch you currently doesn't get with the model y long range.

brittle totem

Crossovers seems to very popular right now in Sweden and the Nordic countries in genera. stoic ledge

stoic ledge
# feral reef wtf, haha *where*

You also have hourly rates here, which are also from time to time a few cents (or even negative), but the next hour they might be €1.50. Really depends on demand and supply

#

So for like last friday, these were hourly rates:

02 Sep 12:00: 39.0 ct
02 Sep 13:00: 36.9 ct
02 Sep 14:00: 37.1 ct
02 Sep 15:00: 42.2 ct
02 Sep 16:00: 48.3 ct
02 Sep 17:00: 61.2 ct
02 Sep 18:00: 68.7 ct
02 Sep 19:00: 73.1 ct
02 Sep 20:00: 68.3 ct
02 Sep 21:00: 52.1 ct
02 Sep 22:00: 40.0 ct
02 Sep 23:00: 36.9 ct```
#

With solar panels hourly rates would be shite, as when there's no sun the prices are high KEKW

feral reef
#

Well definitely don't turn on the dish washer at 18:00 😂

stoic ledge
#

So really depends on the situation what's more beneficial

During the summer you can get negative rates

feral reef

Makes sense I guess

stoic ledge
#

July/August

feral reef
#

All power that gets generated needs to go somewhere

Anyway I feel like we're going a bit offtopic

Cars use fuel, fuel is energy

#

We're talking about energy

#

Hence, we're on topic

stoic ledge
#

Humans are energy... What happens to that energy when you pass away?

#

Can we harvest that energy?

feral reef
#

Lowers your power bill

feral reef
#

It's a bit frowned upon I imagine

stoic ledge
#

Can I run my car on the energy of dead people?

feral reef
#

Hell yeah you can

What a lovely video

I'm grateful that happened

I still find funny how my first few jobs as a truck driver was to transport high value cargo

do you think economy of 7.8l/100km on highway when basically loaded to the limit with 2.0 petrol engine on a Peugeot 307 is good?

I wouldn’t trust American highways anyway

#

you could hit one major bump going that fast and lose traction

#

especially in the east with snow messing up the roads

#

driving in New York is like off roading

brittle totem
wraith rivet
#

Maybe if they were hauling stuff

#

I wonder if that would be the reason for sinking the ferry lol

stoic ledge

If I were in that situation I think the easiest thing to do is reverse straight out, then pull in forward more to the left so when you back out the next time you can crank it left all the way

#

If that makes sense

brittle totem
wraith rivet
#

yeah I think that’s what it is here

#

what is it where you are?

stoic ledge
#

It's 0.02% here

#

But if I have to drive I don't drink at all

#

Because why would I

brittle totem
wraith rivet
#

Oh dang that’s low

wraith rivet
#

like you go drive to a bar knowing you’re going to probably get a little drunk knowing you’re gonna have to drive home…

stoic ledge
#

Typo, 0.02%, 0.05% is when the fines are getting heavier including removed license + mandatory course of ~€2k lol

wraith rivet
#

exactly

stoic ledge
#

I do like a beer but if I need to drive then hell no

wraith rivet
#

Do you know what the deal with Uber and drunk passengers are? Some people say it’s not allowed but idk

stoic ledge
#

I never used it

#

Don't even think I've ever been in a taxi

#

Definitely not an uber

#

So idk

wraith rivet
#

hm oh well

brittle totem
stoic ledge
#

It really depends, after a certain amount there's no set punishment, it all goes by a judge. But imho, penalties can not be high enough

#

Some stuff like using a phone while, not giving way when allowed, speeding 30km/h over: just give €1000+ fines PogChomp That'll teach people KEKW

Limit here is 2‰ here too. But it's essentially a zero limit policy.

brittle totem
# vocal mural 2‰ for new drivers, 5‰ for experienced

Why is it even a difference on a new driver and experienced one here in Sweden the rules are the same but when you looses you license in the first 2 years you need to wait like up to like 2 years and then redo the whole driver course. for the beginning.

stoic ledge
#

But just don't drink and drive

#

Gg ez

brittle totem
errant shore
#

Its not length you’ve had your license its how good you are at driving, an experienced drive has better muscle memory of how to drive and knows what to do in an emergency

brittle totem
errant shore
#

So experienced drivers cant party?

brittle totem
feral reef
#

The limit for experience drivers is a “logical” limit

#

One where most people if they stay below allows them to safely drive

#

The lower limit for less experienced drivers is there to try to prevent younger people drinking too much, since they more likely to misjudge their capabilities after a drink of 2

#

If you’re at or below the the adult limit, you’re very very far away from “drunk”

hoary pine
#

5‰ are still low enough practically, but I just don't get why even lower for inexperienced ones.

#

a limit of 2‰ are basically zero

feral reef
hoary pine

Idiots will do stupid things nonmatter what you tell them.
And people that take one sip at the first toast and put down the glass knows they shouldn't take another other nomatter he is 21 or 41.

feral reef
#

What?

#

Over here a typical man (experienced driver) could drink 2 standard units of alcohol and begin legally driving straight away

#

A third would put them over the limit

#

Wait about an hour and you could legally drive again

hoary pine
#

That is not constant tho, how much goes and stay in your blood from the same drink various day from day, also BAC raises and falls a little (both ways) up to few hours after you drink makes judgement difficult.
So two standard drinks are just rough estimate and you should stay way below that anyways.
I recall when law introduce here people talks about two standard drinks a lot and eventually they just say stay on the safe side.

I wonder when car prices will go down to more reasonable levels again.

In the near future: probably not

brittle totem
# hoary pine a limit of 2‰ are basically zero

Our limit in Sweden is 0,02 but we have pretty strict rules in general becuse we hade a thing called "nollvisionen" so basically it means that no one should die or be seriously injured in traffic.

civic spoke
#

Vision Zero.

stoic ledge
#

With loads of alcohol you have zero vision
