I think the Steam Machine will sell even at $1000 (I doubt it will be that much; I think it's going to be closer to $800). It's not aimed at the masses; it's an enthusiast device.

In my opinion, it's not supposed to be the way to play Steam games. It's supposed to convince other companies to make their own "Steam Machines" (again) so that Valve can make money off of game sales. Just like the Steam Deck caused a PC handheld arms race.
