Needed that level of battery life. But you know not to wait 8-10 seconds per click.

So was told MackBook Air, I wanted a better screen so I was told m5 MBP.
i was concerned about the lack of memory bandwidth on M5, so went to M4 PRO.
Was concerned 24GB wouldn't be enough to replace the 32-64 GB I typically target. I was mislead that it would be "fine because macOS" started slamming SSD with 20+GB of swap.
Knew it was gonna murder the SSD if I kept it up. And the performance was far below the "14900HX -10 to 15%" request.

M4 pro 12C was Just straight up not enough compute. And the screen (that I was told I was stupid for demanding 1,000nits capabilities) was just Okay and fluorescent reflections still overwhelmed in a distracting way. Coming from 600 nits matte (that I ran at ~400nits) 600nits and glossy just couldn't cut it.

The laptop almost a weird in-between. Not powerful enough to work really hard, but also not priced low enough to not be worked hard.

Oh and mine had the stupid MacBook Air keyboard... I bet the 14C pro would have been adequate.
Since I was losing $1k trading in. I wanted to make damn sure it was "worth it".

Ordered M4 MAX, was gonna get 64GB ram, but upgrading to 128 GB since it was below market cost. Got nano texture, solved all my screen issues, yes it isn't as "rich" but it's completely fine. And I can run 30-40% brightness with easy. And I don't get distracted by movements in the reflections.

As long as you are not in your comfort zone in a terminal you'll achieve nothing in IT

So idk spun up a gentoo/arch without any install script and don't install a full fledged DE and make it your main computer, in a few months the terminal will become your best friend

Also if you want to "stack certs", which is indeed a somewhat good learning path, you should look at the linux foundation certs

I'm at 5 years of experience in devops/sysadm (only linux), responding to 2-3 recruiters per week trying to recruit me. If I had a few certs like the ones for kubernetes it would increase the salary they'd offer me. And since salary is usually the reason I don't accept their offers....
