hoary schooner
#

i quite literally NEED more to properly map more pci devices to my vm

devout pasture
#

fair

hoary schooner
#

i wanted 128 or 256

#

looks like that’s never happening cuz i refuse to spend over $500-700 on ram that’s absurd

#

js changed that number like twice LMAO

devout pasture
#

bruh

#

I dont do much , but I do feel I will be okay with 16 gigs

#

8 gigs too low even for chrome

#

it would get stuck for a few seconds randomly

#

Switched to Vivaldi

hoary schooner
#

16 gigs fine for gaming and browsing

devout pasture
#

If linux runs like 1.5 times better than windows on my pc, I will just switch

#

but I like ease

#

so I am not sure

hoary schooner
#

just use a simplified distro

#

linux isn’t hard to learn to use tho, few days and you’ll be comfortable

devout pasture
#

mint? or something

#

I have used a bit of linux in the past

#

but never commited

hoary schooner
#

idk tbh, i use cachyos i used to use arch but those might not be great to switch from windows to daily driving immediately

devout pasture
#

I tried android and chrome os too 🥲

hoary schooner
#

chrome os is terrible

#

chromebooks are only good for putting linux on

devout pasture
devout pasture
#

windows is really giving me a headache

#

cpu always at like 20% usage

hoary schooner
#

everything’s at 0 on cachy lol

#

except mem

#

but that’s all os

devout pasture
#

this is just idling

#

bruh

granite peak
devout pasture
#

i3 bruh

granite peak
#

Id say an 8th or 9th gen

devout pasture
#

1305

granite peak
#

1305u ?

devout pasture
#

13th gen

#

yeah

granite peak
#

Laptop !

devout pasture
#

right

granite peak
#

Well it has 1 performance core

And 4 efficiency cores

devout pasture
#

I see less usage on a 2nd gen i3

#

on an older build of windows 11 though

granite peak
devout pasture
#

yes

granite peak
#

Dude

#

How does the 1305u feel tho ?

#

Is it slow ? Or just works ? Non gaming

devout pasture
#

its okay and then it isnt

granite peak
#

Does it slow down ?

devout pasture
#

yes it does sometimes , like it boots quick but then for like 30 seconds its slow, then If I am doing some design work and the file it big , then saving takes a bit of time

#

what I hate more is the fans though

#

I am the type of person that think the macbook air is perfect

tribal meteor
#

Got this keyboard on Amazon just cause. I'm actually liking this keyboard:

https://a.co/d/04WWAipU

granite peak
#

Im surprised u could do it at all

granite peak
#

It has one strong core and 4 weak ones

#

And yes , the m5 air would smoke it

tribal meteor
granite peak
#

That's not a fair compare tho

M5 air is 1199 bucks

devout pasture
#

dude , I was buying the one with ryzen5 but

devout pasture
#

this was like 400

granite peak
granite peak
#

Its for light stuff

devout pasture
#

but now the new mac

#

its 599 right? the neo ig

tribal meteor
#

I have the following:

  • M1 Air
  • M2 Pro
  • M3 Maax
  • M4 Max
  • M5 Max
granite peak
tribal meteor
granite peak
#

Its good but......

tribal meteor
#

Shush.

granite peak
#

Not for .... Ur stuff

devout pasture
#

yeah , but its better that rn

tribal meteor
#

What's that supposed to mean?

granite peak
#

Its a snappy laptop for basic stuff ngl

devout pasture
#

like better than what I have though

granite peak
#

A18 pro is strong as hell

#

But dude 8gb is devious work

devout pasture
#

its got 8?

granite peak
#

Yeah

tribal meteor
#

I'm gonna stop you right there.

granite peak
modest beacon
#

if it had a19pro then it would have 12gb of ram

granite peak
#

Nah dude a18 pro is great

tribal meteor
#

@devout pasture what do you do? I see you're needing a new laptop, but what specifically do you do?

modest beacon
#

i know just saying guess theyre using leftover chips

granite peak
#

But 8gb is just horrendous

tribal meteor
granite peak
#

But 8gb is devious dude

#

I tried the m1 pro on 16gb and the m1 on 8gb

Both are good , but the moment u start multitasking the m1 8gb starts tweakin

agile hill
devout pasture
agile hill
#

I feel like everyone who is reviewing it and the people who are tech enthusiasts and talking about it forget a very simple fact, not everyone is as into tech as them

tribal meteor
# granite peak Its a good laptop ngl But 8gb is .... Eughh Like the first thing i look for in ...

You clearly don't know what you're talking about and you probably don't even have first hand experience with the machine. I do.

I bought the M5 Max and the Neo. I tested the Neo with some yearbook work with it in InDesign and it loaded the yearbook project that I have, just fine.

You really need to check your facts before you start running your mouth as you clearly have no proof or anything to back your claims.

granite peak
#

Yeah right i didnt touch anything newer than the m1 pro

agile hill
granite peak
#

This is true

agile hill
#

Most people buy a single laptop and run that until it breaks

granite peak
#

M5 air is good ngl

agile hill
#

Like for example No one in my family has ever owned a PC. Until Covid times we would have 2 laptops in the house not including work devices

tribal meteor
devout pasture
agile hill
#

Whatever laptop we got would be the machine that did whatever it needed to do, no option to opt to use a "Real computer" for "real work"

tribal meteor
agile hill
#

Fair

tribal meteor
#

To be fair, being in the live entertainment industry -- plus being a photographer and videographer, you'd ideally need a machine that's powerful enough for on the go projects.

I was able to justify that with the Max chips with Macbooks.

agile hill
#

As someone who was a hardcore windows user and bought their first mac just the past november, its pretty clear the neo is not where it is at for me or most of the poeple I know

devout pasture
#

it works

devout pasture
#

but just

granite peak
#

Which is justifiable

agile hill
#

i got an incredible deal on an m4 air and had to pull the trigger as it was like 60% of the price of whatever else I was lookigna t

hoary schooner
devout pasture
hoary schooner
#

love my macbook wish it could be my daily driver

tribal meteor
devout pasture
#

I do game a bit though , so If i were to switch to mac , I would have to have a pc on the side

granite peak
# devout pasture fr

Almost 6 years ago i had like the 4650u Ryzen, it was weaker than intel 11th in single core , but offered me 6c/12t for cheap

tribal meteor
hoary schooner
devout pasture
#

what

agile hill
tribal meteor
granite peak
tribal meteor
#

This is why I'm still hybrid between MacOS and Windows.

devout pasture
agile hill
#

The 256 gigs will fill up pretty quick and the 8gb will definitely start to take a toll as everything becomes more and more unoptimised

tribal meteor
granite peak
devout pasture
granite peak
devout pasture
#

oh him bruh

hoary schooner
agile hill
#

Its a super capable device but it is not meant to survive for a long time, and unfortunately the average consumer looks for devices that live for a long time and not anything else

devout pasture
hoary schooner
#

technically ig im just hybrid between linux and mac bc my windows is a vm on linux

tribal meteor
hoary schooner
granite peak
granite peak
tribal meteor
hoary schooner
#

for anything that’s not video rendering 8gb is fine on macos and you’ll never throttle

devout pasture
granite peak
#

I use debian and have like 1.1gb ram usage

devout pasture
#

its almost like having 12 on windows

agile hill
hoary schooner
#

i have an 8gb macbook it’s great

hoary schooner
granite peak
#

I usually hit like 23gb-28gb usage of average excluding system

granite peak
agile hill
hoary schooner
#

when i run my windows vm i constantly eat at least 20+ gigs lmao

devout pasture
tribal meteor
agile hill
#

I speak as someone who just recently upgraded from 8gb to 16gb on a 6 year old HP pavillion that I still run windows 10 on

hoary schooner
hoary schooner
#

macOS doesn’t use ram like windows

devout pasture
#

yeah

agile hill
devout pasture
#

like windows is using 6 gigs just idling

granite peak
devout pasture
granite peak
agile hill
hoary schooner
hoary schooner
tribal meteor
hoary schooner
#

if u remove the bloat u fuck up ur OS it’s terrible

devout pasture
tribal meteor
granite peak
agile hill
#

Even with old installs, I'm on 4.5gb idle for windows 11 and 2.5 gigs idle for windows 10

devout pasture
hoary schooner
hoary schooner
devout pasture
granite peak
#

Debian just never breaks ngl , been 8 months since i use it

hoary schooner
#

i’ve had really weird sudo prompt issues on cachyos

devout pasture
#

does someone know if we can program the copilot key to do something else?

hoary schooner
#

i’m also fucking with my OS and the kernel but idk

tribal meteor
granite peak
#

I mean the last arch based I've tried was manjaro and it was a disaster

hoary schooner
#

best linux distro i’ve ever used, i love arch and this is just arch but with steroids

hoary schooner
#

mogs any debian distro i’ve used

agile hill
devout pasture
#

I want to learn to use linux soooooooooo bad but , I do not have the time

agile hill
#

I'm hanging on to my windows 10 esus for dear life

hoary schooner
devout pasture
granite peak
agile hill
#

I will update to 11 the day that 10 support runs out and not one day ebfore

agile hill
devout pasture
#

oh

tribal meteor
agile hill
#

Macos is definitely the better system in terms of bloatware installed by default

agile hill
hoary schooner
agile hill
#

ESUs till october 25th 2026

granite peak
#

Oh

tribal meteor
#

Idiot

#

Anyways

hoary schooner
#

oh i’m slow lmao i mean technically u have support until 2029

#

if u wanna pay

agile hill
#

I would honestly

devout pasture
#

pay nah

tribal meteor
#

How do you guys not know this?

tribal meteor
hoary schooner
#

FREE support ends. paid goes on for three years. u didn’t know that?

agile hill
#

I mean no I wouldnt but like i really do prefer 10 over 11 by far

granite peak
#

Imagine closed source software

devout pasture
#

its really rare knowlege

hoary schooner
#

it’s 2026 tho i genuinely just think everyone should be on linux with a stripped down win 11 vm, its so much cleaner and u can get it down to 0% usage with no bloat lmao. i don’t understand why you’d use win10 atp

#

ghost specter + chris titus ftw

agile hill
granite peak
granite peak
devout pasture
granite peak
#

Like , the delay is criminal

devout pasture
#

idk thats why I am asking

hoary schooner
#

if u run it on the windows vm it’ll run the exact same as if u were running it as windows being ur host os lol, it doesn’t fuck with the speed of ur hardware

#

i play competitive shooters on my vm

granite peak
#

Ive run it on wine , winboat and bottles
Its bs audio wise

hoary schooner
#

yeah cuz ur running it on linux with a translation layer

devout pasture
granite peak
#

Ah

hoary schooner
granite peak
hoary schooner
granite peak
#

But it runs slow on vm 😭

devout pasture
granite peak
#

Or maybe my pc is ass

hoary schooner
#

yeah idk u gotta configure ur vm better its def not cuz of ur pc

#

it should run almost identical or identical to how it’d run if windows was ur host os

hoary schooner
granite peak
#

Mostly audio delay problems ngl

devout pasture
#

cuz I am playing cs source rn 😭

devout pasture
hoary schooner
devout pasture
#

for the pc to run

hoary schooner
granite peak
#

I just have windows on my main rig ngl

#

Debian on my thinkpad

agile hill
#

Only enterprise

devout pasture
granite peak
#

And macos on this stupid mac i barely use

#

It works fine tho

devout pasture
#

playing roblox cs2 copy for now 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

hoary schooner
devout pasture
agile hill
#

Also speaking of macos

granite peak
hoary schooner
#

i used to get 900fps (a year ish ago) now i get 600 and i know it’s not because of my pc or anything cuz other people’s performance went down too

agile hill
#

I will never understand why i cant rightclick and uninstall something

hoary schooner
#

well actually maybe some cool linux distros have that

devout pasture
#

like look at this bruh

granite peak
#

Ayo ik ts game

#

😭

devout pasture
#

I am getting a gambling addiction i believe

#

cases bruh

hoary schooner
#

roblox unironically started my gambling addiction

granite peak
#

Man i cant send pics yet nice

#

Anyways

pallid falcon
#

Connect a forums account to send photos

granite peak
#

I found a new niche market

#

The refurb sub 500 sd elite ultrabrooks

#

Great chips with bs software compatibility

granite peak
hoary schooner
#

can it run linux

#

if it runs linux it’s useful

granite peak
#

I wont recommend it

hoary schooner
#

actually meh too much work

hoary schooner
#

i got debian on my enterprise chromebook lmao i wanna try arch or cachyos next

granite peak
#

In single core*

hoary schooner
agile hill
hoary schooner
hoary schooner
#

i barely read it tbh

wind phoenix
#

The Wayland color management protocol got merged months ago

hoary schooner
#

was looking around for asahi alternatives and saw that😭

fossil frost
#

people shitting on the wayland project for having the ability and urge to try and make the linux desktop better are terrible people, and are the same people who cry about microsoft and ask why more people dont use linux as a desktop... wayland is one of the best things to happen to linux recently.. its DRASTICALLY improved the desktop experience, its not perfect, but X was FAAAARRRR from perfect too... and wayland coming along and providing some competition has lead to X getting better, and even a fork of X to merge some major changes that the original X project wont merge for their own internal political reasons... rather than crying or making fun of wayland.. be happy that it exists and has pushed linux desktop on by YEARS on its own

5 emails on there public including a discord bot js didn’t know if it was a mistake or not

wind phoenix
#

I know my mailman config dw

#

They are public but the archives are restricted when needed

hoary schooner
#

not sure how i’ve never seen mailman before this looks cool to use

wind phoenix
#

Mailman is widely used

#

I have openldap for managing the accounts on puffer.fish

#

But freeIpa and kerberos+ cas for my personal domain

hoary schooner
#

i just don’t run any domains cuz i don’t wanna forward a port / setup ddos protection / pay for hosting or ddos protection

#

i really cba

wind phoenix
hoary schooner
#

i have no reason for a site anyway

wind phoenix
#

This all runs in a cheap vps

#

No Cloudflare because it's against our values

#

Even the dns authoritative server ia hosted by us

hoary schooner
#

sounds.. exploitable?

wind phoenix
#

How so?

#

DDoS handling is up to the hosting provider

hoary schooner
#

i mean i’m sure your own systems aren’t foolproof while cloudflares are tried and tested would u mind telling me what part of them violates yalls values?

#

ah ig i just misunderstood

#

what u meant

wind phoenix
#

Because that's what it is

hoary schooner
#

governments are quite literally cut into the internet lines. all ur communication gets read along the line somewhere

#

i do understand though

wind phoenix
#

Ahahahaah

#

That's literally false

hoary schooner
#

just providing a counterpoint even though id do the same lol

fossil frost
wind phoenix
#

Tls exists, but Cloudflare acts as a man in the middle deciphering all requests

#

Tls=> https

hoary schooner
fossil frost
#

TLS prevents that. and almost all web traffic is TLS now, and much of the internet traffic that isnt the web, is also TLS now too.. very little of the internet is plain text

hoary schooner
#

i’m not, but data’s data even if it’s not immediately readable. id rather them not have it at all idk abt u

wind phoenix
#

Traffic is readable up to layer4 (osi) and gets "encrypted" into layer l5+

fossil frost
hoary schooner
#

yeah ig im mainly talking about a perfect fairytale land where everyone’s actually secure rn

#

lmao

fossil frost
#

that only exists inside peoples imagination

hoary schooner
#

still tho if the world was perfect i’d rather them not have it at all. tis or not

#

k i can’t type i give up ykwim my autocorrects bugging

fossil frost
#

in a perfect world ,we wouldnt need encryption, the fact that we do, means the world isnt perfect

hoary schooner
#

anyway MY POINT EARLIER was all your information gets scooped up. not sure why you’d care if cloudflare gets it

wind phoenix
#

Well even without wire tapping, you would need cryptography to assert that you're talking to the right person

wind phoenix
#

Alright this is leading nowhere

fossil frost
hoary schooner
#

like i do understand it bc i do the same shi but looking at it from an outside perspective it’s just paranoid

#

they’re not doing anything with it and other entities are getting it too

fossil frost
#

i dont have a choice in the government having my data, i would like to minimise the number of people who do have it to just me and the government

hoary schooner
#

minimizing is nice but does it even matter at the end of the day

wind phoenix
#

No it's not. Cloudflare can read your password in https requests in PLAIN TEXT for example

agile hill
wind phoenix
#

No ONE should be able to read in PLAIN TEXT apart from the client and server

wind phoenix
#

Handle your dns and thus request certificates for it

#

Use it on their servers l

#

And forward it to you

fossil frost
devout pasture
#

ello

hoary schooner
#

the data cloudflare receives should be encrypted before cloudflares involved.. no?

wind phoenix
#

Because they need it for their waf solution to work

hoary schooner
#

but the lava lamps man!!! the lava lamps!!!

wind phoenix
hoary schooner
#

strongest encryption in the world!!!!!!!

devout pasture
fossil frost
hoary schooner
#

i just want m5 to work for linux bru

#

asahis cooked p sure

devout pasture
#

bruh

wind phoenix
wind phoenix
hoary schooner
#

im pretty sure it does but i didnt even plan on using asahi

wind phoenix
#

Read the documentation. It's on the main page of the website.

hoary schooner
#

i was just on their website and i coulda swore it said they do

fossil frost
fossil frost
wind phoenix
hoary schooner
#

nvm i’m buggin still tho idc ab asahi

#

didn’t plan on using it

#

need an actual viable option. like apple to grow a pair and add support

wind phoenix
#

"Bro", you can't blame Asahi for not working on something that isn't supported

hoary schooner
#

when did i blame asahi i literally said i don’t care about it like three times 😭the projects dead

wind phoenix
#

Not really

#

There are still patches being sent and work being done

hoary schooner
#

minor ones

#

i doubt we’ll see any major changes likely just this slow pace and then a slow shutdown of the project

#

i’m sure forks will be made and someone will relaunch with popularity though

wind phoenix
#

To me that's major progress

hoary schooner
#

that’s an article from two months ago

wind phoenix
#

And? Two months ago is recent considering this is a "free time" hobbyist projet.

hoary schooner
#

idk i really just don’t think it’s gonna go far, id love for it too, i just don’t have much hope

wind phoenix
#

Your opinion, not mine.

hoary schooner
#

🤷‍♂️for now i need to find a dif option anyway cuz asahi doesn’t work for m5

#

might get source and see what can be done if all else fails

wind phoenix
#

You're a kernel developer now?

hoary schooner
#

that’s pretty much all i’ve been doing on linux for the last month

#

u have to fuck with ur kernel to get kernel level ac’s to run in windows vms

wind phoenix
#

Working on kvm or qemu?

hoary schooner
#

yeah js thru the VMM lmao it’s lowk funny asl u can get this far with such base shit

wind phoenix
#

I can't understand what you're saying lmao (I'm french so yeah)

hoary schooner
#

yeah i’m just doing stuff through the base Virtual Machine Manager lol, it’s actually really funny you can get this far with such commonly used applications

#

i’m having trouble passing through my pci usb rn, i don’t wanna pass thru individual devices but if i pass the entire controller thru i need to map it and i dont have the ram for that

wind phoenix
#

Oh so libvirtd, that's not kernel development tho

hoary schooner
#

not normally, but to get your Virtual Machine to look like baremetal, you have to.

wind phoenix
#

You just have to get your iommu groups working correctly and passthrough it

hoary schooner
#

That’s not all you have to do. That’s the last and most simple thing you do.

wind phoenix
hoary schooner
#

you can’t pass through your MSR’s with XML, it just doesn’t make any sense

#

or get Hyper V Artifacts to not have a seizure (which includes passing thru MSR’s but a LOT of other shit.)

wind phoenix
#

So then you're working on kvm

hoary schooner
#

yeah

#

libvirtd for gpu passthru but if that’s all i did no anti cheats would run

wind phoenix
#

🤷‍♂️

#

I don't see the value in ACs so I just don't play games that need them

hoary schooner
#

All good multiplayer games have an AC so setting up this VM was a requirement for me

wind phoenix
#

Like it's not my switch emulator/ds emulator that's going to require ACs

hoary schooner
#

i play competitive shooters like valorant (it’s a terrible game but it’s so competitive) and faceit so i kinda need it

wind phoenix
#

I don't play competitive games so I don't have this issue, not my kind of game

fossil frost
#

dual boot is a much simplier and much more robust setup... cheapo 512gb secondary drive that gets booted once every few weeks when my kids want me to jump on fortnite with them

hoary schooner
#

i probably will go back to dualbooting eventually

hoary schooner
fossil frost
#

couldnt imagine anything worse than needing other people to have fun 😄

hoary schooner
#

yesh idk when i’m alone i kind of just want to be productive, tinkering is my idea of fun bc i learn stuff i can use later from it, not sitting on a game that won’t bring me much. competitive games let me bond with friends and compete for a goal i can share with other people though, so i guess that’s the difference? i really can’t put my finger on it lol.

fossil frost
#

tinkering is fun... winding down and not giving a shit about anything else at all... is also fun

#

constantly trying to be productive all the time without any sort of rest, is how you burn out

hoary schooner
#

when i burn out i usually js change niches within tech

#

going back to game dev once i get bored messing with linux

fossil frost
#

you are gonna end up in hospital 🙂

hoary schooner
#

been doin it 11 years already😭hopefully it don’t get me anytime soon

fossil frost
#

ive been doing it for 22 years... im telling you from experience

hoary schooner
#

u mean from stress?

fossil frost
#

no, from your brain just going "fuck this, im done, i just cant" and just shutting you down, and plunging you into a deep depression... constantly chasing a goal all the time that you never actually get to, and training your brain that it should always be chasing something all the time, but never actually getting the reward for the catch

hoary schooner
#

my pursuit is knowledge, everytime i sit down on my computer im rewarded. do you think i could be seeing things the wrong way?

#

i don’t care much for a specific goal other than being versed in most of not all sections of electronics

fossil frost
#

you do whatever you want, your own way.. im just pointing out that there are bad times ahead of you

hoary schooner
#

ik im tryna take ur advice, was just curious if you thought that changed anything or if you thought this inevitable doom is still coming for me lol

wind phoenix
#

Imagine needing KPIs to feel productive...

#

Just chilling is sometimes worth more than working

fossil frost
#

side projects are now for if i actually NEED to do something, or find something genuinely interesting above the threshold of "i just want to know"

hoary schooner
#

i use stress relief i’m not sure im allowed to talk about in this server, its legal in california. kinda makes me feel like im chilling and being productive at the same time

fossil frost
#

sometimes i relax by sitting in front of the TV and playing through a game that doesnt matter.. like assassins creed.. just exploring.. sometimes i relax by going on a 20 mile run..

wind phoenix
#

Bruh sadlinus

hoary schooner
#

the run i understand, but sitting in front a game that doesn’t matter would just make me feel like im wasting valuable time of my life that im only given once

fossil frost
hoary schooner
fossil frost
#

in running, its taught as "go faster, by slowing down"

wind phoenix
#

Overworking yourself will 100% of the time lead you to health problems (like I did four years ago)

fossil frost
#

try to run a marathon at 100%, you will be dead by 10km... and then reset, and then 5km later.. and then 5km later again.. and then either drop out, or walk the rest of the way... much slower time than if you just ran at 75% and didnt burn out... 75% is slower than 100%, but because you can maintain 75% constantly.. its faster over all

devout pasture
#

as a kid I didnt understand why pilots pull back the throttle after takeoff and not go 100% all the way. kind of a similar concept

fossil frost
#

yep, just wasting fuel for very little return

even if ur using windows lightly 8gb is still bad. on macos 8gb is fine for light usage. that was my point, i personally wouldn’t daily drive an 8gb mac

I would seriously just get a server with DDR4, hell even a workstation. It won't matter THAT much, and when you realize that you're savings can almost buy you a 5070 TI all the sudden that little bit of extra performance from DDr5 ram starts to not matter

.if they sold this here (US)... Well it would fall apart 🤣 but also... 9,921 lbs is more than all non special package 1/2 tons, but in a ranger 🤔. Idk if the engine can stay cool running 75-85 MPH pulling 10k-ish in Texas. I don't think 245HP can do that. I know that engine was a turd in f150

Well we got the 3.0 Land Rover diesel in the F-150. And it didn't really go well for Ford... Because even though that was a very lightweight F-150 generation that ancient engine didn't make enough power for American roads.

After 3 years Ford suspended all production because their come back rate on warranty was approaching 10% for engine failure 👀.

#

Now we have the 2.3 cylinder which is the base rotating assembly of the 2.3 mustang performance pack with the torque cam and heads.

graceful mortar
#

And the monster "that thing got a hemi" 2.7 V6 (witches the only engine that you should even consider in the entire midsize class)

and the "you sure You remembered to hit the pedal to the floor when the light went green because in my mirror you just kept getting smaller" 3.0 Raptor, which is insane in ALL the right ways.

#

Those are the 3 US Rangers engine choices. Not a single bad one.

#

V6 solves everyone's biggest complaint with the midsize trucks which is that they simply don't make enough power for how fat they are, and how much fuel they guzzle.
They legitimately weigh what early 2000s half tons did, But most of them make less torque and all of them make less horsepower...

#

F-150 2.7 is my favorite EcoBoost. The problem is it gets worse fuel mileage than the coyote and I would just rather have a V8 at that point.

#

The 3.0 Duramax is the final half ton diesel available in in the US. It's only $900 upgrade over the 5.3 but it gets 8-10 MPG better everywhere.

I owned the first generation, second generation that came back with steel pistons and did literally what my feedback was to them 10% more power and make 3.73 available in more than just one weird order only package.

I don't think there is a better vehicle offered for sale in America. Nothing else has the bandwidth of capabilities.

Following launch, one of the Progress spacecraft’s antennas used for automatic docking did not deploy as planned. All other systems are operating as designed, and Progress will continue toward its planned docking at 9:34 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, March 22. Troubleshooting will continue and if the antenna cannot be deployed, Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergey Kud-Sverchkov will manually pilot the spacecraft through a backup system for rendezvous and docking at the space station.

Try doing that on a budget and at some point, you're gonna come back to a gas-powered generator because that's THE easiest thing to get a hold of, especially if your house isn't adequate for solar panels and area decides to make it difficult to adopt a solar or wind energy setup. The government will do squat for you wanting to upgrade your own house, especially if you decide to just go all the way and do a top down renovation. That's on you to afford and decide how to approach. The decision for what you should do or get is not their problem when you deal with the obstacles involved. That doesn't mean it will not be more excuses for a manufacturer to screw you over somewhere. In fact, if it's that much simpler, then it means less overhead cost to them to find ways to make it harder for you to fix if something does go wrong, with the intent of either making you pay far way more to fix anything or end up pushing you into buying a whole new vehicle, regardless of what still works or doesn't in your existing car.

That's the viewpoint people have now, not because they were bad in any real way (save for some that were just built stupid intentionally to begin with), but when things did eventually break, they couldn't just not be forced to throw money out the window on them after already doing so just to gain ownership of one.

Now... We're past that introduction and I've come to my conclusion.

They all got worse in some or more ways, and all across the field in gas, electric, and hybridization.

Electric cars - Higher fire risks (still because they're not there yet with battery tech outside of only a few), built to fail on purpose and in stupider ways to ICE cars, VERY temperamental with different climates, still too expensive long term for most people, usually always designed with every feature that today is now a hazard (massive screens with submenus for everything being a big one) or features that work stupid and no one other than designated technicians are permitted to touch.

Gas cars - Still have engine configs from some major manufacturers that have glaring problems, still complex and for some reason requires extra complexity to be efficient, petrol is still widely used to a point were alternative fuels become an "if" statement even to this day, some of them just have... So many design flaws in even the simplest features, the stupid infotainment and dash software problems was there with them before we got EVs and Nissan still is on the list as my worst offender so far.

Hybrids - Most of them are literally just ICE cars with extra parts and steps by design, they don't really look that much different from either and usually carries very similar flaws as the other, the Prius' somehow are still the only other affordable hybrid car anyone would stand by or trust and there are not very many others we can say the same for, any improvements we get for either electric or gas that get added don't really see any notable improvements unless we talk supercars and hypercars... Because they're kind of the only ones that get anything really noteworthy even worth talking about.

Literally False backed by stats. ever adjusted for % of sales.
built to fail on purpose
ALL modern cars are designed to ONLY last the factory warranty duration.
VERY temperamental with different climates,
not true they start more reliabily in -40F than ICE, and are fine in Dubai.
still too expensive long term for most people,
only because peopel want to trade every 3 years, they are 1/10th the cost per mile. depreciation is the issue.
usually always designed with every feature that today is now a hazard (massive screens with submenus for everything being a big one)
Not a true statement, nor a valid oponion aganist EV as thats ALL cars.

again matter of oponion, BTW design is driven by supplier part availability, which is chosen by actual consumers for what they demang and what they list on surveys for "why feature made you buy RAM over GM and Ford" and they say TV SCREEN ON DASH.

Yeah, like THAT last part really aged well. Now some us realized that it actually kinda sucks and anyone who designs the UIs for them are being asked to try stuffing too much into one interface and that became a safety hazard as one of multiple proponents for distracted driving. You should NOT be having your eyes on the screen trying to find one thing, especially if you're the driver or even are driving alone.

# graceful mortar no its because screens are WAYYYY cheaper than buttons, and you can just remove ...

Well yes, that was the point of it all really. In concept, it was a good idea on two ends.
You can make a functional touchscreen interface to replace any buttons you don't require or could just make digital instead of going through all the effort to tool up a manufacturing line to produce them or work out a deal with a partner who can make them in bulk and trust that they'll actually do it right or at least they way you'd expect.

The benefit would then be passed to the buyer because now you have as much as possible in one place that you don't need scattered about as buttons, as originally we used to have those infotainment systems that were nothing but tons of buttons and extra features had their own controls years ago, so it was all a hodgepodge of everything instead of one cohesive thing. It helped to deal with that altogether and benefitted both the consumer and the manufacturer.

It's just... The execution, I feel, has been all over the place and only a few of them got it right.

In the end, two things kinda were realized:

  1. It's better to have plenty of buttons still.

  2. UI/UX needs to be condensed or at least simplified in such a way that doesn't require hiding stuff in other screens and menus to avoid distracting the driver.

  3. There is a way to make things simplistic without being overkill, though I don't really if anyone's figured that part out properly just yet.

  4. Generally, I think maybe Bugatti was on to something when they designed their stuff for the Chiron's interior because they broke things up a bit and used smaller, simpler screens for different controls. It made them more simplistic and minimalistic without sacrificing look and feel. There could be more of that tried an I think that's what we kinda need instead, especially for cars that aren't luxury or don't need so many features stuffed into them.

Though on a side note to the latter part, apparently the direction they took with the Tourbillon has caught a LOT of people's eyes because they stripped so many things down, more than even Pagani does with their interior designs for infotainment, and I think people noticed and are starting to wonder if that's something worth trying to go back to again. I doubt that would happen at large, but it is a design direction I feel like a lot of people would want, which is the simplicity of vintage mixed with modern tech.

okay if i am a corp

  • i can give you buttons back, to cover liabilities and special ording i have to do i will be adding $15,000 USD to the car. this covers liability and reduced ROI for investers that i am required by law to maxamize
  • I will remove all ability to configure anything in the car it will be part of my paid subscription servcie. alternatively you may visit the dealer and pay 1hr labor for them to change they settings for you.
i will also blur the screen and dim it when the veichicle is placed in drive to ensure it is not interacted with at any time nor distracts the driver. to ensure minimal distractions i will also limit the sound system to 5db over ambient
  • i figued it out! i have built th econfiguration menus into my paid app service.
