fair
i wanted 128 or 256
looks like that’s never happening cuz i refuse to spend over $500-700 on ram that’s absurd
js changed that number like twice LMAO
bruh
I dont do much , but I do feel I will be okay with 16 gigs
8 gigs too low even for chrome
it would get stuck for a few seconds randomly
Switched to Vivaldi
16 gigs fine for gaming and browsing
If linux runs like 1.5 times better than windows on my pc, I will just switch
but I like ease
so I am not sure
just use a simplified distro
linux isn’t hard to learn to use tho, few days and you’ll be comfortable
idk tbh, i use cachyos i used to use arch but those might not be great to switch from windows to daily driving immediately
I tried android and chrome os too 🥲
I dont mind learning but something like arch is a no no for me
fr
windows is really giving me a headache
cpu always at like 20% usage
last time that was the case for windows i was on win 7 😭😭
this is just idling
bruh
What cpu is that ?
i3 bruh
Id say an 8th or 9th gen
1305
1305u ?
Laptop !
right
Well it has 1 performance core
And 4 efficiency cores
P core has 2 threads
E cores have 4
Hence the 6 in the task manager
yes
Ah okay
Dude
How does the 1305u feel tho ?
Is it slow ? Or just works ? Non gaming
its okay and then it isnt
Does it slow down ?
yes it does sometimes , like it boots quick but then for like 30 seconds its slow, then If I am doing some design work and the file it big , then saving takes a bit of time
what I hate more is the fans though
I am the type of person that think the macbook air is perfect
Got this keyboard on Amazon just cause. I'm actually liking this keyboard:
Dude your laptop isnt supposed to do design work.....
Im surprised u could do it at all
fr
I started with the M1 Air and I was still able to do some work with it on InDesign and Illustrator. Where do you get off with this?
That's not a fair compare tho
M5 air is 1199 bucks
dude , I was buying the one with ryzen5 but
i mean yeah
this was like 400
The m1 smokes the 1305u on multicore
Idk dude
I would tell u to stop
This would be the MacBook Neo and it outperforms the M1 Base.
Its good but......
Shush.
Not for .... Ur stuff
yeah , but its better that rn
What's that supposed to mean?
Its a snappy laptop for basic stuff ngl
like better than what I have though
its got 8?
Yeah
I'm gonna stop you right there.
Aight
if it had a19pro then it would have 12gb of ram
Nah dude a18 pro is great
@devout pasture what do you do? I see you're needing a new laptop, but what specifically do you do?
i know just saying guess theyre using leftover chips
Its a good laptop ngl
But 8gb is .... Eughh
Like the first thing i look for in a device is how well the cpu is
But 8gb is just horrendous
For what the Neo is, you seriously cannot go wrong with it. It's an impressive machine that struck a deadly blow to the Windows market.
Compare the build quality to those of equivalent within the Windows market.
True
But 8gb is devious dude
I tried the m1 pro on 16gb and the m1 on 8gb
Both are good , but the moment u start multitasking the m1 8gb starts tweakin
Honestly, I reckon its pretty easy to go wrong with it
next year probably . I do vector and sometimes rastor design and I am learning cavalry for 2d animation. and also use vscode in college . So i really need good battery
I feel like everyone who is reviewing it and the people who are tech enthusiasts and talking about it forget a very simple fact, not everyone is as into tech as them
You clearly don't know what you're talking about and you probably don't even have first hand experience with the machine. I do.
I bought the M5 Max and the Neo. I tested the Neo with some yearbook work with it in InDesign and it loaded the yearbook project that I have, just fine.
You really need to check your facts before you start running your mouth as you clearly have no proof or anything to back your claims.
Yeah right i didnt touch anything newer than the m1 pro
Like for example you mentioned that you have had a mac with every single m chip generation and also the higher end SKUs
This is true
Most people buy a single laptop and run that until it breaks
M5 air is good ngl
Like for example No one in my family has ever owned a PC. Until Covid times we would have 2 laptops in the house not including work devices
Oh yeah, I see where you're going with this. I do believe you will struggle with the MacBook Neo and you will be limited.
In this market and the budget you're in, you are better off buying used between the M1 Pro or Max to the M5 Base.
even though I am into tech but I would still use a better laptop for longer
Whatever laptop we got would be the machine that did whatever it needed to do, no option to opt to use a "Real computer" for "real work"
I just considered these MacBook purchases as a business expense
Fair
To be fair, being in the live entertainment industry -- plus being a photographer and videographer, you'd ideally need a machine that's powerful enough for on the go projects.
I was able to justify that with the Max chips with Macbooks.
As someone who was a hardcore windows user and bought their first mac just the past november, its pretty clear the neo is not where it is at for me or most of the poeple I know
sometimes i am doing 3 of those things at the same time so , rn with my laptop , I am really struggling
it works
That's like 4 grands
but just
Which is justifiable
i got an incredible deal on an m4 air and had to pull the trigger as it was like 60% of the price of whatever else I was lookigna t
macos compatibility tho 🙄
You have bad multicore.... Xd
fr
love my macbook wish it could be my daily driver
Very much so. I've tested the Neo with Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator -- all programs mentioned ran, without a hitch.
I'm surprised with how capable it is for a phone SOC.
I do game a bit though , so If i were to switch to mac , I would have to have a pc on the side
Almost 6 years ago i had like the 4650u Ryzen, it was weaker than intel 11th in single core , but offered me 6c/12t for cheap
What's preventing you from making it your daily driver?
it runs like 10% of the apps i use and the compatibility layers are ass
Malware
what
Roseta ?
Oh I dont doubt it will be snappy as hell right now, But for someone who isnt tech savvy and plans to run their laptop for 5 years it really isnt the best choice
I'm just going to block you and not interact with you any further.
Justified action ngl
What apps do you use that won't run it?
This is why I'm still hybrid between MacOS and Windows.
The 256 gigs will fill up pretty quick and the 8gb will definitely start to take a toll as everything becomes more and more unoptimised

Bro is tryna justify 8gb in 2026
I literally didnt
Not you
oh him bruh
i use linux windows and mac 😭mac for browsing/media, linux for coding/development, windows for gaming
Its a super capable device but it is not meant to survive for a long time, and unfortunately the average consumer looks for devices that live for a long time and not anything else
Its for students so I think 8 gb is managable
technically ig im just hybrid between linux and mac bc my windows is a vm on linux
My M4 Max and M5 Max hsa 128GB of memory -- the M4 Max has 4TB of storage, the M4 Max has 8TB.

8gb on windows is terrible in 2026 8gb on macos tho is great still
Idk dude
Im just mad
They put a good soc
With 8gb
Like yeah for students its fine
For web browsing yeah
Windows bloatware is infused into their OS.
for anything that’s not video rendering 8gb is fine on macos and you’ll never throttle
thats a point too
I use debian and have like 1.1gb ram usage
its almost like having 12 on windows
holy hell that must have run you a pretty penny
i have an 8gb macbook it’s great
it’s more like 16 iirc
I usually hit like 23gb-28gb usage of average excluding system
damn
Yeah
This is honestly one of the narratives I hate the most. 8gb on any OS in 2026 is bad
when i run my windows vm i constantly eat at least 20+ gigs lmao
could be , I havent used an 8 gig mac though . just based on vibes 😭
I can’t show you my receipt cause it has my tax exemption on it and everything, but here
I speak as someone who just recently upgraded from 8gb to 16gb on a 6 year old HP pavillion that I still run windows 10 on
8gb is completely fine on macOS. anything to show otherwise? ur against a large opinion based on data lol
LMAO
macOS doesn’t use ram like windows
yeah
The question is what do you refer to as fine? It might be snappy but if its using swap liberally then I dont think thats okay
like windows is using 6 gigs just idling
I have like android studio, react in background , vs code , whatever dude
And like many ... Many browser tabs
Android studio is a memory hog ngl
And i basically close nothing
and it would use more if had more bruh
True
Not gonna lie that might be a bloatware issue
android studio is SUCH a mem hog. i used to run it on my mac
yeah it’s windows they go hand in hand
A scope of what I do:
if u remove the bloat u fuck up ur OS it’s terrible
so , just a windows issue ?
Yes and they slow it down even more with their AI shit
Dude imagine my debian consumes from
800-1.1gb idle
And i hit almost 30gb xd
Even with old installs, I'm on 4.5gb idle for windows 11 and 2.5 gigs idle for windows 10
oh yeah , there is also this copilot button now
i think cachy and arch use around the same iirc just a little less but about the same
Im on kde
yh i kinda assumed i am too
it should have been quick action , instead of copilot
Debian just never breaks ngl , been 8 months since i use it
i’ve had really weird sudo prompt issues on cachyos
does someone know if we can program the copilot key to do something else?
i’m also fucking with my OS and the kernel but idk
Depends
Dude how is cachy ?
I mean the last arch based I've tried was manjaro and it was a disaster
best linux distro i’ve ever used, i love arch and this is just arch but with steroids
Wow
mogs any debian distro i’ve used
Hey man, 11 is shit but I feel like tahoe is definitely worse
I want to learn to use linux soooooooooo bad but , I do not have the time
I'm hanging on to my windows 10 esus for dear life
it doesn’t take time man idk why people say this 😭 just download it, you’ll adjust really quick
tahoe has bloatware?
Well i agree
Arch and opensuse slightly pass debian
But debian never breaks
I will update to 11 the day that 10 support runs out and not one day ebfore
No no I meant in general user experience
people talk about reliablity a lot
oh
It did....
Macos is definitely the better system in terms of bloatware installed by default
Nope!
yeah who’s gonna tell him
I mean
Fair enough
ESUs till october 25th 2026
Oh
Hold up what now
I would honestly
pay nah
How do you guys not know this?
I would.
Imagine not paying.
FREE support ends. paid goes on for three years. u didn’t know that?
I mean no I wouldnt but like i really do prefer 10 over 11 by far
Imagine closed source software
fewer people use 10 now , and all laptops come with 11 sooo
its really rare knowlege
it’s 2026 tho i genuinely just think everyone should be on linux with a stripped down win 11 vm, its so much cleaner and u can get it down to 0% usage with no bloat lmao. i don’t understand why you’d use win10 atp
ghost specter + chris titus ftw
Honestly man, for someone whose entire workflow can be run in a browser, My OS really doesnt matter to me enough to pay a premium to keep 10 around
Dude , fl studio and daws emulated on linux sound like ass
I am thinking of doing this
wdym
how
Literraly
would it in a vm though
Like , the delay is criminal
idk thats why I am asking
if u run it on the windows vm it’ll run the exact same as if u were running it as windows being ur host os lol, it doesn’t fuck with the speed of ur hardware
i play competitive shooters on my vm
Ive run it on wine , winboat and bottles
Its bs audio wise
yeah cuz ur running it on linux with a translation layer
what do you play
Ah
valorant and faceit
Ur damn right
which is TERRIBLE. run it on a vm and it’ll run amazing
But it runs slow on vm 😭
ic , is valo , easier to run than cs2 rn?
Or maybe my pc is ass
yeah idk u gotta configure ur vm better its def not cuz of ur pc
it should run almost identical or identical to how it’d run if windows was ur host os
wdym by easier
Mostly audio delay problems ngl
cuz I am playing cs source rn 😭
like is it lighter
yeah i def don’t have that, my audio queues are great
for the pc to run
most definitely not, they’re both around the same but it’s a pretty well known fact that cs2 will run on a shitter pc
Not for home licenses :(
Only enterprise
it ran on mine but it would lag when I would respawn
playing roblox cs2 copy for now 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
i’ve noticed some insane performance drops on val in the last year lmao they’ve been frying the game
Arsenal ?
bloxstrike
Also speaking of macos
That's more niche
i used to get 900fps (a year ish ago) now i get 600 and i know it’s not because of my pc or anything cuz other people’s performance went down too
I will never understand why i cant rightclick and uninstall something
u can’t do that on linux either, or windows
well actually maybe some cool linux distros have that
like look at this bruh
roblox unironically started my gambling addiction
Connect a forums account to send photos
I found a new niche market
The refurb sub 500 sd elite ultrabrooks
Great chips with bs software compatibility
Might try this
No , yes
But it does
But software ? Meh
I wont recommend it
actually meh too much work
i got debian on my enterprise chromebook lmao i wanna try arch or cachyos next
Snapdragon beating desktop intel 😭
In single core*
apple needs to stop being greedy with their chips
Yeah
I can in the start menu, regardless I do dislike the dragging to the bin concept
I press delete
What de ?
the fact that someone’s hosting this site made me chuckle
Not even up to date
i barely read it tbh
The Wayland color management protocol got merged months ago
was looking around for asahi alternatives and saw that😭
people shitting on the wayland project for having the ability and urge to try and make the linux desktop better are terrible people, and are the same people who cry about microsoft and ask why more people dont use linux as a desktop... wayland is one of the best things to happen to linux recently.. its DRASTICALLY improved the desktop experience, its not perfect, but X was FAAAARRRR from perfect too... and wayland coming along and providing some competition has lead to X getting better, and even a fork of X to merge some major changes that the original X project wont merge for their own internal political reasons... rather than crying or making fun of wayland.. be happy that it exists and has pushed linux desktop on by YEARS on its own
is your mailing list supposed to be non pw protected on puffer.fish lmao
- display link got fixed on wlroots in 2024
Some of the lists are public, yea
5 emails on there public including a discord bot js didn’t know if it was a mistake or not
I know my mailman config dw
They are public but the archives are restricted when needed
not sure how i’ve never seen mailman before this looks cool to use
Mailman is widely used
I have openldap for managing the accounts on puffer.fish
But freeIpa and kerberos+ cas for my personal domain
i just don’t run any domains cuz i don’t wanna forward a port / setup ddos protection / pay for hosting or ddos protection
i really cba
Mailman is basically the system forwarding mails, handling subscriptions and stuff, hyper kitty is for archives
i have no reason for a site anyway
Puffer.fish is a group of friends, I mainly handle the sysadmin stuff
This all runs in a cheap vps
No Cloudflare because it's against our values
Even the dns authoritative server ia hosted by us
sounds.. exploitable?
i mean i’m sure your own systems aren’t foolproof while cloudflares are tried and tested would u mind telling me what part of them violates yalls values?
ah ig i just misunderstood
what u meant
We don't like Cloudflare acting as a massive man in the middle and reading all communication
Because that's what it is
governments are quite literally cut into the internet lines. all ur communication gets read along the line somewhere
i do understand though
just providing a counterpoint even though id do the same lol
you genuinely dont understand how this stuff works, stop talking
Tls exists, but Cloudflare acts as a man in the middle deciphering all requests
Tls=> https
do u think im like imagining them with scissors and a computer hooked up to the stray wires with a big ass cord next to them 🤣
no, i think that you think its as simple as just scooping up traffic, and its just readable... its not
TLS prevents that. and almost all web traffic is TLS now, and much of the internet traffic that isnt the web, is also TLS now too.. very little of the internet is plain text
i’m not, but data’s data even if it’s not immediately readable. id rather them not have it at all idk abt u
Traffic is readable up to layer4 (osi) and gets "encrypted" into layer l5+
you dont have a choice, they own the infrastructure in many cases
yeah ig im mainly talking about a perfect fairytale land where everyone’s actually secure rn
lmao
that only exists inside peoples imagination
still tho if the world was perfect i’d rather them not have it at all. tis or not
k i can’t type i give up ykwim my autocorrects bugging
in a perfect world ,we wouldnt need encryption, the fact that we do, means the world isnt perfect
anyway MY POINT EARLIER was all your information gets scooped up. not sure why you’d care if cloudflare gets it
Well even without wire tapping, you would need cryptography to assert that you're talking to the right person

Alright this is leading nowhere
i get to sleep with my wife, thats 1 person sleeping with my wife... id rather everyone else wasnt doing it too, id like to minimise the number of people sleeping with my wife to just me
like i do understand it bc i do the same shi but looking at it from an outside perspective it’s just paranoid
they’re not doing anything with it and other entities are getting it too
i dont have a choice in the government having my data, i would like to minimise the number of people who do have it to just me and the government
minimizing is nice but does it even matter at the end of the day
No it's not. Cloudflare can read your password in https requests in PLAIN TEXT for example
I knew the government was fucking people over I didnt know it was this literal
No ONE should be able to read in PLAIN TEXT apart from the client and server
that’s absurd
That's what's happening because the inspect the traffic themselves
Handle your dns and thus request certificates for it
Use it on their servers l
And forward it to you
not always, it depends on how everything is set up. if its full https end to end, with external certificates, then CF cant see shit
ello
the data cloudflare receives should be encrypted before cloudflares involved.. no?
No https end to end means that they use https to reach you, they can still view it
Because they need it for their waf solution to work
but the lava lamps man!!! the lava lamps!!!
It is, decrypted in Cloudflare and sent to you
strongest encryption in the world!!!!!!!
If arm is getting better on windows , I might get an arm pc
its a good job i specifically set up the software i build to authenticate via PSK instead of transmitting the password 🙂
bruh
PSK is literally a password but sure... You can use hashes for it
Asahi doesn't work for m5 yet.
im pretty sure it does but i didnt even plan on using asahi
Read the documentation. It's on the main page of the website.
i was just on their website and i coulda swore it said they do
single use PSK, all hashed
lead dev has left the project too
All good then! It's similar to Kerberos then
nvm i’m buggin still tho idc ab asahi
didn’t plan on using it
need an actual viable option. like apple to grow a pair and add support
"Bro", you can't blame Asahi for not working on something that isn't supported
when did i blame asahi i literally said i don’t care about it like three times 😭the projects dead
minor ones
i doubt we’ll see any major changes likely just this slow pace and then a slow shutdown of the project
i’m sure forks will be made and someone will relaunch with popularity though
that’s an article from two months ago
And? Two months ago is recent considering this is a "free time" hobbyist projet.
idk i really just don’t think it’s gonna go far, id love for it too, i just don’t have much hope
Your opinion, not mine.
🤷♂️for now i need to find a dif option anyway cuz asahi doesn’t work for m5
might get source and see what can be done if all else fails
You're a kernel developer now?
that’s pretty much all i’ve been doing on linux for the last month
u have to fuck with ur kernel to get kernel level ac’s to run in windows vms
Working on kvm or qemu?
yeah js thru the VMM lmao it’s lowk funny asl u can get this far with such base shit
I can't understand what you're saying lmao (I'm french so yeah)
yeah i’m just doing stuff through the base Virtual Machine Manager lol, it’s actually really funny you can get this far with such commonly used applications
i’m having trouble passing through my pci usb rn, i don’t wanna pass thru individual devices but if i pass the entire controller thru i need to map it and i dont have the ram for that
Oh so libvirtd, that's not kernel development tho
not normally, but to get your Virtual Machine to look like baremetal, you have to.
You just have to get your iommu groups working correctly and passthrough it
That’s not all you have to do. That’s the last and most simple thing you do.
No. You can change that in the xml
you can’t pass through your MSR’s with XML, it just doesn’t make any sense
or get Hyper V Artifacts to not have a seizure (which includes passing thru MSR’s but a LOT of other shit.)
So then you're working on kvm
All good multiplayer games have an AC so setting up this VM was a requirement for me
Like it's not my switch emulator/ds emulator that's going to require ACs
i play competitive shooters like valorant (it’s a terrible game but it’s so competitive) and faceit so i kinda need it
"good multiplayer games" no, no, no, good competitive multiplayer games
I don't play competitive games so I don't have this issue, not my kind of game
dual boot is a much simplier and much more robust setup... cheapo 512gb secondary drive that gets booted once every few weeks when my kids want me to jump on fortnite with them
couldn’t agree with ya more. i’m also using this as a way to read memory for windows applications on linux. if i didn’t care about that, id def just dual boot.
i probably will go back to dualbooting eventually
they’re all i play, i can’t find anything else entertaining. if i play a game thats not competitive, i find myself thinking its pointless and getting off no matter how fun it is. kinda weird cuz i rlly used to love solo games, now it just feels like im kind of wasting time lol
couldnt imagine anything worse than needing other people to have fun 😄
yesh idk when i’m alone i kind of just want to be productive, tinkering is my idea of fun bc i learn stuff i can use later from it, not sitting on a game that won’t bring me much. competitive games let me bond with friends and compete for a goal i can share with other people though, so i guess that’s the difference? i really can’t put my finger on it lol.
tinkering is fun... winding down and not giving a shit about anything else at all... is also fun
constantly trying to be productive all the time without any sort of rest, is how you burn out
when i burn out i usually js change niches within tech
going back to game dev once i get bored messing with linux
you are gonna end up in hospital 🙂
been doin it 11 years already😭hopefully it don’t get me anytime soon
ive been doing it for 22 years... im telling you from experience
u mean from stress?
no, from your brain just going "fuck this, im done, i just cant" and just shutting you down, and plunging you into a deep depression... constantly chasing a goal all the time that you never actually get to, and training your brain that it should always be chasing something all the time, but never actually getting the reward for the catch
my pursuit is knowledge, everytime i sit down on my computer im rewarded. do you think i could be seeing things the wrong way?
i don’t care much for a specific goal other than being versed in most of not all sections of electronics
you do whatever you want, your own way.. im just pointing out that there are bad times ahead of you
ik im tryna take ur advice, was just curious if you thought that changed anything or if you thought this inevitable doom is still coming for me lol
Imagine needing KPIs to feel productive...
Just chilling is sometimes worth more than working
i stopped caring about side projects and chasing knowledge for the sake of it. and started chasing other goals, doing other things.. and sometimes... just doing nothing... relaxing is very productive, because it refreshes you and gets you ready to do something bigger and better
side projects are now for if i actually NEED to do something, or find something genuinely interesting above the threshold of "i just want to know"
i use stress relief i’m not sure im allowed to talk about in this server, its legal in california. kinda makes me feel like im chilling and being productive at the same time
sometimes i relax by sitting in front of the TV and playing through a game that doesnt matter.. like assassins creed.. just exploring.. sometimes i relax by going on a 20 mile run..
Bruh
the run i understand, but sitting in front a game that doesn’t matter would just make me feel like im wasting valuable time of my life that im only given once
that isnt stress relief, its stress masking.. the stress is still there, you just hid it behind a curtain
it most definitely goes away for a while, relief is just temporary, it’s not a stress “cure”.
not time wasted.. its time spent resetting my brain.. your brain CANT be always going all the time, it will fuck you over if you try... you are being less productive, because you are trying to always be productive
in running, its taught as "go faster, by slowing down"
Overworking yourself will 100% of the time lead you to health problems (like I did four years ago)
try to run a marathon at 100%, you will be dead by 10km... and then reset, and then 5km later.. and then 5km later again.. and then either drop out, or walk the rest of the way... much slower time than if you just ran at 75% and didnt burn out... 75% is slower than 100%, but because you can maintain 75% constantly.. its faster over all
as a kid I didnt understand why pilots pull back the throttle after takeoff and not go 100% all the way. kind of a similar concept
yep, just wasting fuel for very little return
When Bluetooth runs out of bandwidth... 😭 Can't figure out a way to solve it.
Which bluetooth version ?
search for used servers, or at least used servermotherboards with ram and CPU included
doubt i can get ram that’s high enough speed and good enough timing no?
still gaming on it
a19 next year IF they hold price will be THE one. hoping for 50KWH batter so you can legit do 2-3 days of work ona charge (A19 pro is 12GB)
twin, but i had to go 14 for portability. hope they fix the max issues (assuming its not by design) soon
15 chrome tabs and you are hitting swap.
idk what i woudl do with 8GB, espically when how easy it is to kill the non fan mac ssds from heat,
to a point, 32gb is okay, 64 GB windows never gets that agressive
i have more than 15 chrome tabs open, vscode, facetime, and i’m gambling on one of the chrome tabs, i have 0 lag. i don’t rlly care if im hitting swap. i was saying it was fine for someone not using the machine heavy, unlike windows.
even if ur using windows lightly 8gb is still bad. on macos 8gb is fine for light usage. that was my point, i personally wouldn’t daily drive an 8gb mac
ahh, yeah swap kills the cheap SSD Apple uses.
not if you use PCIE5 ssd and let it page it agressively.
i’m sure someone that can only get 8gb of ram has a pcie5 ssd
well actually nowadays that might be realistic 😭
^ interested in this i started looking
only rlly seeing ddr3 and ddr4 tho not sure who the hell uses ddr5 for a server
The transmission device is the onn 4k plus, I can't find the manual to check BT edition
Here is it in action
All new builds.
Grab an old ddr4 server. The timing won't be amazing, but you'll have your capacity. Ram is currently $10/GB for reasonable timed kits.
still using it for gaming 😭 might have to settle for 64 for now ig
128GB kits are notoriously hard to get to run at rated timings
Usually you have to settle for JDEC
wanted to run at 5600
Which is what the vast majority of server ram is gonna run at anyways
didn’t care for more than that
Ddr5 JDEC right there.
I would seriously just get a server with DDR4, hell even a workstation. It won't matter THAT much, and when you realize that you're savings can almost buy you a 5070 TI all the sudden that little bit of extra performance from DDr5 ram starts to not matter
Seems to happen with both keyboards
The only way I know to "fix" it, but once the keyboard sleeps it will do it again 😭
.if they sold this here (US)... Well it would fall apart 🤣 but also... 9,921 lbs is more than all non special package 1/2 tons, but in a ranger 🤔. Idk if the engine can stay cool running 75-85 MPH pulling 10k-ish in Texas. I don't think 245HP can do that. I know that engine was a turd in f150
hi
Why would people tow 4.5 tons
Because Ford said - they want
Because that's what they weigh
Is that a trailer house?
That space for liquid propane sure looks like a hitch to me
The Neo is just the Windows laptops with fanless M3/M5/M7 Intel CPUs.
Asus Zenbooks & so on. Been done 10 years ago already.
+You didn't have to use Apple OS with those. Win/Win
It’s more about the transmission staying cool than the engine

Ya, if the OEM says 4.5 tons, that means 4.5 tons at 45 MPh in 125F at 4,500 ft elevation on a 7% grade for 13 miles straight, AC on full cold OUTSIDE air. Speed cannot drop below 45, cannot throw any warnings for the driver, cannot loose any coolant.
Nope max towing on 2.7 is 8,000
Well the 3.5 then ig
Yep it can do a full 1,000 lbs more than the ranger, the ranger will get 13MPG at 70. The 3.5 will get 5MPG.
Well if ur doing lots of towing that makes it the obv choice
I think the point is how much narrier the ranger is, so you can park it without coming out to bangs and scratches because you don't really fit in the space. Oh and parking garages.
The only thing we tow is the occasional 6000lbs camper
Ranger is the size of 2008 F150
Plus I believe it’s also cheaper than the 3.5?
Over here at least the base f150 is 70k cad
Glad I got mine before
Well we got the 3.0 Land Rover diesel in the F-150. And it didn't really go well for Ford... Because even though that was a very lightweight F-150 generation that ancient engine didn't make enough power for American roads.
After 3 years Ford suspended all production because their come back rate on warranty was approaching 10% for engine failure 👀.
Now we have the 2.3 cylinder which is the base rotating assembly of the 2.3 mustang performance pack with the torque cam and heads.
Damn I didn’t know that
And the monster "that thing got a hemi" 2.7 V6 (witches the only engine that you should even consider in the entire midsize class)
and the "you sure You remembered to hit the pedal to the floor when the light went green because in my mirror you just kept getting smaller" 3.0 Raptor, which is insane in ALL the right ways.
Those are the 3 US Rangers engine choices. Not a single bad one.
V6 solves everyone's biggest complaint with the midsize trucks which is that they simply don't make enough power for how fat they are, and how much fuel they guzzle.
They legitimately weigh what early 2000s half tons did, But most of them make less torque and all of them make less horsepower...
F-150 2.7 is my favorite EcoBoost. The problem is it gets worse fuel mileage than the coyote and I would just rather have a V8 at that point.
The 3.0 Duramax is the final half ton diesel available in in the US. It's only $900 upgrade over the 5.3 but it gets 8-10 MPG better everywhere.
I owned the first generation, second generation that came back with steel pistons and did literally what my feedback was to them 10% more power and make 3.73 available in more than just one weird order only package.
I don't think there is a better vehicle offered for sale in America. Nothing else has the bandwidth of capabilities.

Got 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep a couple days ago
Legitimately the best sleep I’ve gotten in years. Sleep is so important. Especially after working out.
night before a race, ive struggled to get to sleep until around 3am.. then im back up at 5am to get to the starting pen for 6am, to start the race at 7am... fun times racing ironman 😄
Increasing my blood iron levels undoubtedly helped my sleep
My legs are much less restless at like 12 AM.
Although I do need to fix my sleep hygiene like going to bed earlier and just being more consistent.
Hi everyone
What issues are you seeing with your unit?
Perhaps you're having issues with the actual hardware itself that you might need to take up to your local Apple Store and speak to the Genius Bar?
I only say this because I've heard of people having issues with the Max chips lately.
Windows is bad. Therefore I try to disassociate with it now.
Well they don't exist anymore. Oh what I'd give for a new ux305
urgh.. ive written web authentication code for 20odd years now.. i still hate it, and still see it as mostly magic... :S
(writing the auth api for a project for a friend right now, the worst part of any project)
It literally slower than my M4 pro. At first I thought it was just me feeling like it was slower.... But no. Technically yes under synthetic load it is still slightly faster... But just slightly...
in low power i get 12 e-cores that are just fed a bit more power, and 1.3-ish Super cores.
vs the 4 e-cores and 8 P-cores i am used to
this is why my m5 max preforms 60% worse than my reject pile M4 pro does.
ironnically this is teh exact reason i wanted a m4 max, not a m5 max
Following launch, one of the Progress spacecraft’s antennas used for automatic docking did not deploy as planned. All other systems are operating as designed, and Progress will continue toward its planned docking at 9:34 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, March 22. Troubleshooting will continue and if the antenna cannot be deployed, Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergey Kud-Sverchkov will manually pilot the spacecraft through a backup system for rendezvous and docking at the space station.
First launch off the newly repaired pad leads to them having to manually dock
The manual docking is literally just KSP
These mid cores, they smell weird if you know what I mean. The numbers indicate that Apple may have been...... Optimistic... With some of their statements
I could take it into genius but the fact of the matter is.. now that I see in a news report that is known to be inconsistent... the response that I may get is oh there's a fix coming....
The problem is if I find the fix unsatisfactory later I do not have the option of getting all of my money back....
But at the same time i need a stronger computer than my M4 Pro... And unfortunately my M4 Pro was one of the ones built with the terrible MBA keyboard as well... And nano display is where I need to be.
I thought it was just apple head really bad auto brightness but I realized that every day I'm sitting there trying to turn up the brightness and it doesn't go any higher whereas the nano texture I never had to touch it and I never took over half which is 30% power consumed of the screen compared to full brightness.
For me the retina XDR display is more than good enough
Sounds like your options are
- Contact apple & tell them to fix their laptop
- Buy something that better meets your needs
Will forza horizon 6 be playable on max settings 4k with an 5070 ti?
why are people so lazy that they cant be arsed to type their question into a search engine, and expect other people to do that for them
tbh, i could type that question into google too, and get a scientific paper about how incredibly lazy people are now
ok
yh i searched it up it says 1440p i know but will 4k be dramatic u think?
Is that 4k 120fps?
A follow up to the afroman court case... He dropped this the night before the trial... https://youtu.be/HM8Ee6pcXvQ?si=AsFuLldbe0OtNsTO genuinely amazing 😁

Also, he wore that suit to court
I think one of the reasons for this is the enshitification of search results and AI answers being wrong. People want to know that a human is giving them info
would it be worth trying goodwill for ddr5
lol i saw a listing for 16gb of ddr 5200 for $50 usd
ddr5*
it was happening long before AI answers
people are just lazy now.. they wont do anything for themselves
its easier to just ask the question and be spoon fed the answer than it is to actually learn something

Yes
It's surprisingly good
I mean it's not great but it's definitely like $500 Roku TV territory
It's got in Amazon x-ray like technology that even works on copies of content
I mean I'm not surprised, they said that you know it monitors what you watch
But at least I get a free TV out of it so
@vapid smelt
yeeees

i would say way less then $500 tv territory you can get mini leds for that much
Fuck
How do TVs get so much cheaper every year
I remember when mini LED had a significant premium
one of the very few things getting cheaper as time goes on, where everything else is getting FAR more expensive
smh i get no free credit card for doing bestbuys job
Wonder if it’s just an AI that reads the pictures and puts in the info
Probably one of the only consumer industries where there’s enough choice to where they can’t start pushing higher prices yet

that choice is getting smaller though, many brands are now the same brand with multiple fake-brands

hi
The numbers Mason, what do they mean?
$5.90 /gallon btw...
And just in the past hour I realized I made three major mistakes.
#1 I didn't immediately go out and fill up my 110 gallon reserved diesel tank.
#2 This past week I chose to stay at home during my vacation because you know gas prices etc etc ......
Which was stupid and near sighted because The whole reason why the vacation was set for last week (One of the worst travel weeks of the year) was.... the next opportunity that I have for a vacation is December 20th ... 🤦♂️
Also unfortunately I'm pretty sure that my Seagate refurbished drives are having issues in my nas that I just spent the last 3 weeks literally transferring data to...
AZ problem
im not going to say anything
european fuel prices have raised to around 2.5 euro per liter so youre having it better
considering a gallon is 4l
3.7
€2,57 at the local pump here today, "$11.26/gal"
and then americans are complaining about their prices
thank god for EV's
i drive a EV and i charge at work. so its even cheaper for me
im at 18.3KWh/100km
what was the price Feb 27th?
i forgot
because % increase is what actually matters not amount
below 2 euros before the increases
around $8.7/gal
around that
majority of eu was at like 1.7 average with netherlands as the most expensive at 2.07 i think
i was checking
tomorro(at $6 USD) w we will have seen retail diesel go up 100% in less than 30 days. something that has NEVER happened in recorded history.
diesel is the most expensive in the entire eu
we have been forecast 32nok in a week or two.
i wish i owned a hybrid
my next is definitely a hybrid
you wont see me own an ev
not only are car manufacturers realising that evs are actually bad for them and barely benefit anything
they are cheap tho
but hybrids just make most sense
thoughts on claude opus? things making very functional very optimized programs for me with no human code intervention just prompts
you get electric torque with power of combustion
one of the quickest cars these days are hybrids
I wish the industry didn't jump straight from explodey cars to zappy cars. Honda and Toyota are the only 2 manufacturers who understood the assignment. And I guess Chevy / Nissan sort of / somewhat.
thats why i own a honda and my next is also a honda
it was a bit extreme, but if countries did like norway it would be way better
honda and toyota make best hybrids
yeah so it woudl be $17.40/ gallon to match the US price hikes.
reminder we don't have public transport and over 70% or goods by weight relies on Diesel semi trucks. the exposure the cost of diesel has to the country the fuels the global economy is concerning.
just because we have public transport doesnt mean its good
and basically all our semi's are diesel
some are bio diesel, wich is more expensive
every semi is diesel
a very few number are EV's
you can run that off vegetable oil
our local port has 15 EV semi's that they use to transport containers to/from locations
that just not true. assuming they are actully built to last the normal 130,000 miles a modern car is capable of. they are cheaper.
- no exposure to $280/hr labor charges for maintance
- almost no actual maintance
- the power is always created in the most fuel economical way possible.
my preference is still hybrids
15 of these driving around.
bad
- eats tires
- no real notice of impending failures
- limited function in natural diasters, though, generators are capable of nullifying that.
because hybrids dont solve the $$ issue, see Prius gen 2. stupidest thing ever, you paid DOUBLE what you would for a ford focus wagon, and you would haev to drive the prius 600,000 city miles to replenish the additional upfront costs in fuel savings.
and you have more maintance, and more components. and more expensive insurance.
only 1 hybrid made sense and that was gen 1 Honda Insight.
now ev's with range extenders (on board power generation) DO make sense.
True. They're more expensive, and now you have 2 systems to maintain. The only way hybrids make sense to me is if manufacturer's build them to last and be repairable by the owners without proprietary parts or software, which is unlikely as we live in a capitalist society. 🤷
i did a whole 40 page resourch report on this Jounior year. i remember the highlights.
biased or unbiased?
and ICE to drive wheels doesnt really make sense, yes yes highway ... but people spend like 30% or less of their driving at sustained highway speeds. and that has more to do with non optimized electric motors, and chosing to not use a transmission than anything else. there is a reason OG Tesla Roadster was a 2 speed.
purely synethic, then real world as i had access to both through friends,
I'd love to replace my SubUwU with an EV model, but there isn't a single EV on the market right now whose dash cluster, infotainment / climate control, transmission control system, or price are acceptable for my needs. 🤷 Then again, I do acknowledge that I am in the minority of people who are a "problem" for most vehicle manufacturers...
subawu
voice command. here tchnically it is illegal to touch any non driving control (aka wipers and signals. once the veichicle is in Drive.)
my next is either going to be a BYD or XPeng
our distracted driving law is basically "well i felt you were" burden of proof.
now loog at Chevy Volt gen 1. OG design had a range extendeer that only charged the battery, then they added a direct drive clutch to allow the ICE to power the wheels. flawed.
or maybe a Nio for the little pet you get.

We have similar distracted driving laws, but operating climate controls is still legal here. Voice commands are right out for me, but this applies to all tech for me, not just vehicles. If my tech talks to me, I'm loading the shotgun.
Personally, I'd rather have a regular ICE Subaru than electric. But theeen I see the interfaces and features, and now I'm just like "... Do I really want to deal with all of that though?"
if you take an engine and remove variable loads(particularly non controlled loads) you can have it operate exclusevly at its peak efficency for fuel AND emission. the moment you physically connect it to the drive train, you lost that ability.
^And this argument fits my concerns, but in general with most modern cars.
Ah much better
i would point out today is diffrent, we dont have cars for $6,995. the cheapest is what $14,000?? well you COULD get a 1980's level of standard equipment Maverick for $19,999 and that was a hybrid, that made sense with its 42MPH in real world driving.
oh my god.. the "it not really a good value even at this price" $9,995 Nissian Versa is now ..... $17,390 (BUTTT you do get a manual transmission as standard.)
I prefer cloth seats for car still
Monostable shift design. Not even once.
🤢 🤮
holy, its a 6 seater
no BMW made coatings 20 years ago that solved that.
So is my sedan
- this is my death trap * fixed it for you
Hey it has driver only side airbags!
Non for passengers
airbangs only help if the body panels dont cuts bits off of you
there is even a fridge in it!
My high quality passenger front door
Well, I don't quite mean like old 80s car equipment, manual trans, that sort. I mean like actually without the extra nonsense stuffed in with every single car now that literally is just there to drive up the extra expense, and we just already outlined the whole distracted driving issues which we have regulations for.
but yeah EV make the most logical sense IF they last as long as ICE alternatives. they do now, but the market is still scared of them, and rioghtfully so..
to help with charging time concerns add an efficent generator (mazda HCCI). putting in bigger and bigger batteries is STUPID.
then work on density o we can cool them better in a given space with the same KWh capacity so we can charge them at 250KW sustained to 80%
If we could all house charge evs would make sense
next, REAL level 2 charging at places of buisness with plug and charge. Tesla can charge on 277v. which is parking lot lighting voltage, and any place converted to LED has a TON of reserve current capacity.
we dont need massive DCFC infrastructre if you just plug in to AC power whenever you park.
this will require changing to europe l2 charging cable standard. disconnectablke and lockable at both ends
we CAN thats the thing. if everywhere you stopped had a plug you dont actually need 240v charging at home. now ideally you WOULD because liek efficency and 20A 120v outlets are rare for some reason (eah you could 30A 120v, but WHY)
Sort of? From what I've heard, there are people who got into electric cars and then realized they had upgrade their whole house's electrical setup just to be able to charge their vehicle at home.
120V is ~1% per hour on Model y. but your commerical zone have 240V and higher.
My guess it just depends on where you live and what your house has. If you don't have the infrastructure already at home, then going electric will have a higher bar of entry because it will not only be the car you will have to invest into.
yes, no ,yes.
yes if they want 9.8KW charging. really only makes sense if you have true "super off peak" power pricing where electric is 20% normal cost per KWh between certain times.
no because they have / had teh option of reconfiguring 2 120V 15A circuits and putting in a 30A 120v plug. which is cheap.
yes, because many homes from 1970's have 100-150 amp panels that were at code limit prior to purchase.
right which was the point of level 2 public charging.
in alaska at least 50% of teh parking lot had plugs for block heaters, do the same thing but with level 2. as adaption/demand increases, work your way closer to teh entrance.
would love to see you try and pump gas in a poweroutage
gas is gone day 0 and even if they had gas they need electricty to run the pumps
can charge an EV no problem with infrastructure thats totally independent
so because i know tesla can 277v be design (because destination charger) if you put 4 plugs at teh base of a light pole in a parking lot, there is 4 chargig spaces, now will they be 100A each? no, depends on electrical layout of ther lot and wire gauge.
hybrids are a bandaid for the people that arent fully ready to jump all the way to EV and they will rapidly become irrelevent as EVs continue to fix every argument against them
right, thats why i said itrefueling woudl be resolved with a generator, since you have to haul fuel in anyways when you have infrastructure failue.
wait what? if there is a power outage, you have nothing to charge the EV with.
generating your own electricty is very easy
Exactly what I was thinking!
good luck refining your own gas
yes. raneg extended EV is about the only logcal argument, but it need to be i3 style, no connection to the drive train, engien runs a starter generator exclusevly.
some of yall have never had to spend 8 hours in a gas line and it shows lol
well ya, but thats also how you woudl get the gas pumps to work too.
I was literally all like "what's the point in saying this though?? It doesn't help an EV charging argument either because you obviously need power to either run a pump or charge a battery in the first place!"
gas doesnt magically appear in the station's tanks
oh you haul it in, if you CANT haul it in, your EV working is the leat of your issues.
brother have you ever experienced a major natural disaster
yes, sadly
we convoy in with the fuel truck
and pre evacuation coties are SUPPOSED to stage fuel trucks along the route. prior to ordering an evac
wait it just occurred to me, did hardwarebob get booted? or just rouing'd?
And also gets stupid difficult as you scale for something in need of more energy... Like electric car batteries...
Try doing that on a budget and at some point, you're gonna come back to a gas-powered generator because that's THE easiest thing to get a hold of, especially if your house isn't adequate for solar panels and area decides to make it difficult to adopt a solar or wind energy setup. There's a reason why most people don't do stuff like this because they can't afford to or in their situation it becomes more of a headache to get done at least properly.
You know... I've actually wondered about this for a while now once he I noticed he wasn't here anymore.
Like did he just leave randomly one day without warning?
Natural gas generators are the ideal solution without building out solar, atleast
And also gets stupid difficult as you scale for something in need of more energy... Like electric car batteries...
no, thats flawed way to think of that, thats liek saying im 10lbs over weight might as well go to 600 🤷♂️
this is not an EV specif issue, this is gross negligence by all levels of government who, since the interstate program, have failed to invest in infrastructure when rates were low, instead they were handing out tax breaks.... there are 50,000 inspected bridges known to unsafe on the interstate system alone.
That... Is not even the "scale" I'm talking about.
I'm talking about reasonability and accessibility to solutions to make adopting an EV easier, in the case of just anyone wanting to.
its not though, cost per W doesnt make any investment sense. or are you talking about JUST for diaster use?
I bought a 5090 today took it out the box and dropped it and the PCIe connectors broke
add level 2 charging to buisness parking lots with plug and charge. design it around giving each car 40A concurrently.
they cost teh same if you only DCFC. assuming you buy an efficent one, like model 3 or ioniq 6, rather than model Y and Inionic 5
The government will do squat for you wanting to upgrade your own house, especially if you decide to just go all the way and do a top down renovation. That's on you to afford and decide how to approach. The decision for what you should do or get is not their problem when you deal with the obstacles involved. They are only supposed to ensure you're not getting screwed over where it makes sense for them to step in and regulate. Anything further and it turns into a totally different issue entirely that has nothing to do with this subject.
that really sucks, i would say donor PCB, but thats a LOT of work for a shop and labor will be not insiginifant.
we should take all the money we use to subsidize gas with and use it on paying for people to get solar and EVs lol
Not everyone lives next to a business parking lot that even has those though, so that becomes purely conditional. I'm also gonna bring back the context I'm working off of:
At-home charging with added challenges involved.
you can get a 2kw natural gas generator for like 300$
and when there isnt a distaster you just plug into the wall
or if you wanna get fancy you can pay the 3k it costs to install a 240v outlet
and many states offer tax incentives for installing your own home charger
solar too
did you not open it over a table
Aaaannddd then they won't or it all backfires because even current EVs are not what people expected, are a black box to most us when it comes to troubleshooting our own problems, and they are by design about as bad or worse than cars made so complicated that can't be easily fixed, which adds to THAT problem that already exists with repairing existing cars.
EVs are many orders of magnitude less complex than gas cars dude
my car has like 7 moving parts
im confused. im saying the public infra wich goverment is the overseeers. has dropped the ball.
i think you are talking about at home EV charging? like i said convert 2 120V15 A to a single 120V 30A for a dedicated 3.6KW connection to your garage charger.
better yet, i presume you have 2 legs, so do a nema 6-30R (?) that way you stay at 30A so no additon expense, but go to 7.2KW and have less efficiency losses as you are now on 240V split phase.
not until we colve the transportation mode issues. iu agree wit hteh premise, but its necessary until they find a solution to that.
@winged spire think I might do something
do what
ahh i was saying ABC. always be charging,
pull up to walmart, plug in, you will be there an hour anyways, heck thats easy 10% recharged at that single stop alone. same with movies, restraunts, etc.
suddenly building a charging network isnt complicated, or expensive.
You know that lawsuit of mine found bad faith could see damages tripled so might as well hire an engineering firm lol
i think he is refering to peopke who bought their home without inspecting it and found they were at their service panel max AFTER they chose to buy an EV.
womp womp 🤷
we should race the first one to change the car headlight wins my car vs yours
@winged spire id hire creare to develop cooling for LCVD
not really, just tool gated mostly. excluding programing because copyright (?)
I mean it really shouldn't be, since for businesses it should be easier to accomplish, though not everybody does it so it just depends on the area. Also, do some still have that one propriety issue where you can only charge certain cars at certain chargers or did they actually, finally do something about it?
Guess I am moving to 1440p finally.

Apparently KTC is an OEM?
Yeah would be dope to see a multistage reverse turbo brayton cooling system
Think a multistage cryo cooler like that hits temps of 4k
F or C?
-276c
Crazy shit is with using lasers in chemical vapor deposition you can actually keep chamber 4k but heat on substrate could theoretically hit 1350c
that has never been a thing.
the EV will preform diffrently based on what the underlying platform is. on DCFC that was because tesla SC was only for telsa owners, and no tax money was used. Electrify AMerica was VW punishment in the USA. Tesla wanted government money so opened select superchargers to comply with NEVI participation eligibility rules.
as far as AC, 120v and 240v are universally accepted, 277v (again lighting circuit only) is Tesla exclusive IIRC.
level 1 is 120v. level 2 is 240v +, level 3 is DCFC
If you have a closed coupled atomizer dispersing argon youd probably be able to produce graphene
Well it wasn't charging thing from what I heard, it was a physical port related thing.
NACS is the standard for nearly all north american EVs now
tesla's standard
the port is whatever though, adaptors are like 80$
nearly all EVs can charge at tesla chargers aswell for that matter
Would be dope to see someone tackle lithium air
Yes, that's what I'm reading too. Hopefully you never need to contact customer support though.

They make excellent monitors, but provide essentially zero customer support. The G27P6 is pretty much the best 1440p WOLED on the market while also being the cheapest, and the M27T20 is pretty much the best 1440p Mini LED, while also being cheap (notably better than AOC Q27G3XMN). You're basically taking the risk of getting a defective unit with...
I mean heck PC gamer made a review on this particular model
https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/gaming-monitors/ktc-h27t22c-3-gaming-monitor-review/
Review != good product, or a product that will last. I'm not saying don't buy it... but you get what you pay for.
yeah that was teh goverment again being silly. well actually it was tesla CCS is a US goverment standard. it is now all NACS. Cademo ii believe wiil not see an NACS adapter, CCS already have safe ones out. chadmo (japan standard) was Nissian Leaf and a mitibushi model noone bought.

these are the cars that work on tesla's network
sure
Well KTC seems to supply monitors to guys like Samsung, LG and Acer and am seeing a lot of posts how people like them, so I should be good.
Uhhh.... really. KTC might assemble monitors, but I find it hard to believe they'd make the panels in Samsung or LG monitors. Samsung and LG were 2 of the only manufacturers capable of mass producing panels for the longest time.
thats insane
konesegg's one was like 70lbs and 800hp
Power density of 59 kw/kg
That doesn't mean it will not be more excuses for a manufacturer to screw you over somewhere. In fact, if it's that much simpler, then it means less overhead cost to them to find ways to make it harder for you to fix if something does go wrong, with the intent of either making you pay far way more to fix anything or end up pushing you into buying a whole new vehicle, regardless of what still works or doesn't in your existing car.
That's the viewpoint people have now, not because they were bad in any real way (save for some that were just built stupid intentionally to begin with), but when things did eventually break, they couldn't just not be forced to throw money out the window on them after already doing so just to gain ownership of one.
axial flux motors are literally magic
Thats what lithium air would be if solved
cooling always concers me.
Id use graphene and cnt
Hmmm... Alright, so at least that's something I can throw into the mental encyclopedia to answer any questions with.
you can simply say "Im not a fan of EVs"
no need to invent some conspiracy about how EV manufacters are evil and out to get you, especially considering how utterly shit basically every gas car is
u do acknoledge modern cars are deigned to be uneconomical to repair in exchange for lower manufacturing costs right?
@winged spire know the theoretical energy density of lithium air
idk what that is
Uuuh no, all the manufacturers can be evil if they wanted to... And most of them have in various ways over the century and half. Not even a conspiracy, it's a known fact in various industries at this point as just part of the dynamics of the capitalistic machine.
We all already have the idea of what they would do if it benefits them. That's why we have low opinions of anyone who stands by/shills a "faceless corporation that doesn't give a damn about you other than your money" because it's already in the statement.
so its an irrelevent point about EVs because it applies to all manufacturers
Asml sure likes to be like that
Which one or are you just saying in general of all of them?
If the latter, then... Valid.
Latter
Yeah, just the same as calling all gas cars crap, as so are evs and hybrids, so where's your point if all them will suck anyway?
@dusky jacinth if I became rich id try snd bring them down a peg lol
Would put a multi stage version of this in a closed loop cvd machine lol
That's the point I'm making.
None of them are good and the last time we had anything even reliable was decades ago... And none of those cars were even EVs to begin with. What we have now sucks and it's generally all of them anyway. So throwing one of them under the bus, to someone like me reading the whole conversation and knowing this, is a stupid argument.
🙄
EV isn't really better than gas for various already laid-out reasons and it's already made clear that hybrids are stuck in the middle with only a few of the benefits of both and most of their problems.
EVs are better than gas.
Id probably hire family friend of mine to implement hahaha
its extremely clear you just dont like EVs and you want to justify this with nonsense
No, I don't like the state of current cars.
Family friend is actually a former ceo
EVs was an awesome idea even to me and so were hybrids when I learned about them and saw all the movement to bring them into mainstream.
ev's are at least in real world use better than gas in every way i can think of for most drivers
Now... We're past that introduction and I've come to my conclusion.
They all got worse in some or more ways, and all across the field in gas, electric, and hybridization.
hybrid was stupid when gen 2 Prius launched. Insight was a 60MPG technical flex. gen 1 pruis was a toyota Echo, which no one bought anyways for full price.
This is what a lack of education and understanding does to a person
@dusky jacinth think having an industrial engineer run a project would be a good move
They all got worse in some or more ways, and all across the field in gas, electric, and hybridization.
explain this staetment. they are safer, more echomical (when you consider ther weight gain). and less maintance.
he was saying that he thought hybrids wer ethe future, i expolained we knew it wasnt as far back as gen 2 Prius. the only "hybrid" that makes sense is a range extender on a EV.
Yeah hybrids never were the future just a stopgap lol
If byd comes out with that new battery of theirs its over
one that nevr made sense though. the only early one that made sense was the bespoke 2 seater all alumium Insight. and that was because its whole design was about MPG
Think on byd's new battery its rated for 10,000 cycles 450 to 500 kwh
okay, DCFC isnt teh solution to EV adaption.
in North America we need Level 2 public infrastructure. in europe their lowest voltage is 240V
Electric cars - Higher fire risks (still because they're not there yet with battery tech outside of only a few), built to fail on purpose and in stupider ways to ICE cars, VERY temperamental with different climates, still too expensive long term for most people, usually always designed with every feature that today is now a hazard (massive screens with submenus for everything being a big one) or features that work stupid and no one other than designated technicians are permitted to touch.
Gas cars - Still have engine configs from some major manufacturers that have glaring problems, still complex and for some reason requires extra complexity to be efficient, petrol is still widely used to a point were alternative fuels become an "if" statement even to this day, some of them just have... So many design flaws in even the simplest features, the stupid infotainment and dash software problems was there with them before we got EVs and Nissan still is on the list as my worst offender so far.
Hybrids - Most of them are literally just ICE cars with extra parts and steps by design, they don't really look that much different from either and usually carries very similar flaws as the other, the Prius' somehow are still the only other affordable hybrid car anyone would stand by or trust and there are not very many others we can say the same for, any improvements we get for either electric or gas that get added don't really see any notable improvements unless we talk supercars and hypercars... Because they're kind of the only ones that get anything really noteworthy even worth talking about.
Meant 2200 kw charging
DCFC is too expensive, and uneconomical UNLESS there is alwasy a line of cars waiting.
thats teh DCFC issue
oh boy
Higher fire risks
Literally False backed by stats. ever adjusted for % of sales.
built to fail on purpose
ALL modern cars are designed to ONLY last the factory warranty duration.
VERY temperamental with different climates,
not true they start more reliabily in -40F than ICE, and are fine in Dubai.
still too expensive long term for most people,
only because peopel want to trade every 3 years, they are 1/10th the cost per mile. depreciation is the issue.
usually always designed with every feature that today is now a hazard (massive screens with submenus for everything being a big one)
Not a true statement, nor a valid oponion aganist EV as thats ALL cars.
I forever hope that Mac address comes back
features that work stupid and no one other than designated technicians are permitted to touch.
again thats ALL cars with encryption being patented
Still have engine configs from some major manufacturers that have glaring problems, still complex and for some reason requires extra complexity to be efficient, petrol is still widely used to a point were alternative fuels become an "if" statement even to this day,
again all cars are designed ot only last the warranty duration. idk what you are refering to as "complex" ... yes fuel injection is more precise than manual choke carbs...
some of them just have... So many design flaws in even the simplest features, the stupid infotainment and dash software problems was there with them before we got EVs and Nissan still is on the list as my worst offender so far.
again matter of oponion, BTW design is driven by supplier part availability, which is chosen by actual consumers for what they demang and what they list on surveys for "why feature made you buy RAM over GM and Ford" and they say TV SCREEN ON DASH.
ill belive it when I see it
stated cycle count is much less impressive then just showign the actual data from the fleet
Actually theyre developing two different batteries 10,000 cycle model is out this year
yeah, ill believe it when batteries start hitting thousands of cycles
@winged spire solid state targets 500 kwh and 1000 kilometer range
Yeah, like THAT last part really aged well. Now some us realized that it actually kinda sucks and anyone who designs the UIs for them are being asked to try stuffing too much into one interface and that became a safety hazard as one of multiple proponents for distracted driving. You should NOT be having your eyes on the screen trying to find one thing, especially if you're the driver or even are driving alone.
Byd definitely has a better camera system setup then tesla
Now there's some demand and wishful thinking to go backwards and not have to use touchscreens or really any screen that isn't a radio or segment display.
the Prius' somehow are still the only other affordable hybrid car anyone would stand by or trust
no, Civic is back... and better value.
there is literally nothing else in that section of substance
In concept, it wasn't a bad idea. In real world practice, using a touchscreen in your car became one.
... And I blame it on them not thinking the UI design through carefully enough.
3 LiDARs, 3 long-range forward-facing cameras, 5 panoramic cameras, 4 surround-view cameras, 1 driver monitoring camera, 5 millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors in their gods eye
no its because screens are WAYYYY cheaper than buttons, and you can just remove a feature OTA, vs having to pay 10's of millions to do a recall for a physical switch.
you can chose to not touch the screen. even in Tesla
To be frank, I've not heard this yet out of anybody whenever talking affordable hybrids, so either this has yet to be covered or it has yet to reach me then... So it has no valid substance until then, I guess.
@winged spire almost enough cameras and sensors to be level 4 autonomous
number of sensors is not a metric to determin autonomy lol
basically entirely unrelated
waymos have gotten better over the years despite losing dozens of sensors
Does also have ai
Well yes, that was the point of it all really. In concept, it was a good idea on two ends.
You can make a functional touchscreen interface to replace any buttons you don't require or could just make digital instead of going through all the effort to tool up a manufacturing line to produce them or work out a deal with a partner who can make them in bulk and trust that they'll actually do it right or at least they way you'd expect.
I can also choose not to purchase a vehicle whose controls are unsafe to operate whilst driving, though this might soon mean I won't be driving any vehicles. 😄 Physical controls do cost more (both to manufacture and to assemble), but damn are they ever nice. Need to adjust the heat whilst driving? No problem; I can do that without taking my eyes off the road.
The benefit would then be passed to the buyer because now you have as much as possible in one place that you don't need scattered about as buttons, as originally we used to have those infotainment systems that were nothing but tons of buttons and extra features had their own controls years ago, so it was all a hodgepodge of everything instead of one cohesive thing. It helped to deal with that altogether and benefitted both the consumer and the manufacturer.
It's just... The execution, I feel, has been all over the place and only a few of them got it right.
new prius (and camry) have a platform that actually turns when you ask it to. the issue is there is ZERO rear head room because they chose design over function.
Civic hatchback hybrid is an Acura inside, drives like a honda should (very well), has rear head room. and is cheaper feature for feature.
The rest of them is a mess and a half.
Hmmm, well I guess I did notice something was off about that rear when I first saw them.
Maybe the new Civic might have an advantage then.
you cnat replce buttons, because buttons you can no look scope you cant with any visually acceptable touch screen.
oh yeah 100%, but you have to protect the profit margin.
And that was something people ended up realizing a bit late, especially with touchscreen menus that had stuff behind sub menus.
Motherboard temp sensing is the funniest stuff ever sometimes
reasonable price, a respectable 16 MPG, really nothing bad except used ones exist.
In the end, two things kinda were realized:
-
It's better to have plenty of buttons still.
-
UI/UX needs to be condensed or at least simplified in such a way that doesn't require hiding stuff in other screens and menus to avoid distracting the driver.
-
There is a way to make things simplistic without being overkill, though I don't really if anyone's figured that part out properly just yet.
-
Generally, I think maybe Bugatti was on to something when they designed their stuff for the Chiron's interior because they broke things up a bit and used smaller, simpler screens for different controls. It made them more simplistic and minimalistic without sacrificing look and feel. There could be more of that tried an I think that's what we kinda need instead, especially for cars that aren't luxury or don't need so many features stuffed into them.
I have nothing connected to AUXTIN5 to begin with but it's changing, staying stable around 105 degrees celcius
yeah thats why they have you click agree to not use it while driving,
I'm not.. is this good chat?
The important question I guess is what are we supposed to look at to determine its worth that kind of money?
Though on a side note to the latter part, apparently the direction they took with the Tourbillon has caught a LOT of people's eyes because they stripped so many things down, more than even Pagani does with their interior designs for infotainment, and I think people noticed and are starting to wonder if that's something worth trying to go back to again. I doubt that would happen at large, but it is a design direction I feel like a lot of people would want, which is the simplicity of vintage mixed with modern tech.
Like... Literally, a hypercar with a classic tuner radio in it in terms of infotainment design. That's a bold choice in this day and age in terms of how people see something like that as their move.
There are many horrific ways I would choose to die before getting behind the wheel of a stellantis product
I mean it's got a V-8 but its like
I admittedly didn't expect anyone to do one like that who's aim is for a modern car. Only people with the vintage car designs would forego the modern features for look in feel in the eyes of the public, so it was crazy to see Bugatti is doing it apparently, even if for them it's not really that outlandish.
But it doesn't change the fact it's a statement people found to be huge in a way, and I feel like there might be a chance some parts of the industry will take notes.
okay if i am a corp
- i can give you buttons back, to cover liabilities and special ording i have to do i will be adding $15,000 USD to the car. this covers liability and reduced ROI for investers that i am required by law to maxamize
- I will remove all ability to configure anything in the car it will be part of my paid subscription servcie. alternatively you may visit the dealer and pay 1hr labor for them to change they settings for you.
i will also blur the screen and dim it when the veichicle is placed in drive to ensure it is not interacted with at any time nor distracts the driver. to ensure minimal distractions i will also limit the sound system to 5db over ambient - i figued it out! i have built th econfiguration menus into my paid app service.
- a high mileage 21 year old bugatti is less than a single year of normal driving. also its because it lacks features. hell bugatti didnt even know idf teh veyron had BLUETOOTH capabilities....
that is teh respone you are asking for. Understnad that.
Huge on the infotainment hate by the way
I think hiding pretty commonly used settings behind submenus that might be used while driving is pretty stupid
they asked fro buttons and "reasoable" radio ui's this is as close as you will get new.
Them not having bluetooth for some reason is funny actually.
And that's not a problem?
Exactly.
its just a 1998 Mercades e-class with am american V8 and a german Transmission. all under a station wagon body
I mean you can ban popup headlights, but then legislation around infotainment screens and how bright headlights can get just doesn't exist at all?
yeah, add more digital automated saftey features so yiou can "add value" to your price increases
The "if" one should hit something should matter a bit less than actively making it more likely that happens in the first place, but thats just me
i hear this alot, wjat woudl one be?
For the record I kinda get the popup headlight ban (still lame) but it's still just dumb to me they don't care about safety beyond what would happen in a crash
for them? yes. for general public who will engauge automated driving anyways and be playing on their phone? no.
I mean seat heating for instance, climate control in general on some tesla models
Its better to have a physical knob you dont have to look at for stuff like that than a screen you absolutely do
infotainment, no
headlight are certified. just that some OEM wont pay for the good versions so put crap light on 100,000 trucks
we even have independant testing for consumers. https://www.iihs.org/ratings/about-our-tests/headlights
And if we learned anything from the industry where planned obsolescence was born from (incidentally being the lightbulb industry), it doesn't sell in volumes to have actually good bulbs put in them anyway, so they won't do it. Therefore, we'd have to on our own in some way.
ALL led headlights should be projector lens (fogs are okay as reflectors)
Think getting tailgated by a ford f150 that looks like it has its brights on, but thats just how the leds are normally
At some point they're just too bright, doesn't matter how they cone out if the area they do light is incinerated
may add a "level" kit to their truck which takes headlight out of spec. even more crank them up to "see beter"
also consumers LOVE lights that force people to get out of their way.
Consumers also love popup headlights for good reason, but they shouldn't allow mods like that
automatic modes for both heating and climate, also adjustable vis voice control.
voice control means your never have to take your attention off the road, something that isnt true with buttons.
no its OEM driven, they want to save 8% and artifically segment Projectors to theri most bespoke models to foce consumers that care about saftey at night to spend $40,000 more just to get the good headlights.
love matrix headlights
I guess, but not every car necessarily has voice control with those heating and climate controls, at the very least they should make that a standard
its absolutely saved me from hitting a deer forsure atleast 1 time, probably a different time too but
if you are being blimded its because he is too close, he has them craked high on purpose so you move over, OR he has a model of light known for glare (see GMC)
properly aimed high and lows projectors cause no glare. thats why Bi-Xeon was all the rage with its "shade" thats cut teh light low enoght to not blind others.
they actually dont, there were unreliable AF.
illegal in USA.... annoyingly so
well with the hardware operate in non matrix mode. did they finally chaneg the law to allow the,m to activate matrix mode?
they pushed an update to my car like 3-4 years after it rolled off the lot and turned it on (for free)
You're mentioning that matrix headlights are illegal in the us and that they would crank them up, are you in the us yourself?
It's no attack on anything of course, I'd be jealous if you aren't
yes, it was legalized in 2021 and modules started being approved in like 2024 or 5
But that being said I would imagine its not exactly safe to shine your brights at someone to make them move over, especially at night considering how unsafe that could be
do you know what matrix headlights are
vast majority have auto mode for seat heating and cooling, and voice for climate.
