modern batteries just stop charging when reached 100% like for example even steam deck before the battery limit thing, when plugged in and reached 100% it stopped charging

now it just lets you limit the charging to 80%, the lithium batteries at their core need to be 50% its their most stable state

when at 0% or 100% they're at their most unstable because of how the chemistry inside the battery works (a charge cycle from 0% to 100% is one, but a charge cycle from 30% to 80% is half of that, so you double the longevity of the battery)

software now days helps it by default not to be in these states

I study chemistry and I can say with confidence that with the chemical reactions in the modern lithium batteries in mind, the most unstable state a lithium battery can be is at 0% or at 100% due to the electrons being on one side of the battery
