Actually, I can think of a couple of reasons.

From experience, if the scam message is not in the person's native language.

My mother's native tongue is mandarin Chinese and she got scammed out her bani account because the message was in English.

Another reason could be the expectation that "Canadian are nice". The stereotype is so prevalent that people take it as fact.

And of course, schools back then (even now) didn't really teach online safety as much.

Good thing my elementary school taught online safety quite early on.

AWS controls like 40% of the cloud compute market so it really showcases how important it is to build redundancy into live systems and not have a single point of failure but that can require extensive redesigning of these large services that are in place today

also if everyone does that and AWS goes down then everyone’s going to just DDoS GCP or azure or whoever when they try to scale up their services on those at the same time, just like when everyone’s trying to get everything live again on AWS at the same time

For most services it really isn’t worth it. A couple hours of downtime a year is likely cheaper than a multi cloud solution

you are right, it isnt worth it, especially with the AWS SLA, they start to owe you money (aws credits in free service) if it happens too much (more than a few hours per year)

all you really need in a lot of cases (k8s deployments) is a backup master node and control plane, i feel like the real cost is infrastructure development and having to ensure security and such, running backups of databases for things that need them and maybe if it’s mission critical then live deployments elsewhere that you are always paying for
