Should i shred that teamgroup ssd before rma?

I mean i already barely wiped partition table and made a giant xfs over it

pulsar kiln
#

Jellybean was a huge leap!

#

Taking my Nexus 4 from Ice Cream Sandwich, to an unreleased early build of Jellybean was night and day. I compare that to jumping from a HDD to an SSD. Even showing my workmates they were in awe!

#

Everything was jittery and choppy animation and scrolling wise before project Jelly

strange elk
#

Ive had a couple phones older than that that I rooted with chinese spyware

pulsar kiln
#

You should get the idea if you've used one from before Jellybean.

#

Jellybean was a massive leap unlike most since

#

There have been some enhancements performance wise, but that one stands out in my mind as the most substantial.

strange elk

I just thought the UI design was pretty peak back then

Generally, yes. Either the business lineup, OR higher-end consumer models. Right now I'm rocking a Lenovo Yoga 7i (16") 82UF0015US (i7-12700H, 16GB/2TB RAM/SSD, A370M GPU) as an upgrade from the 2017 Dell XPS 15 9560 I had. Technically, the Yoga series is consumer, but their mid-to-higher tiered models are built acceptably for the price. The Dell XPS was their "consumer" lineup, but really, it was exactly the same as their Latitude business models... just with a different model number.

Yee, I think a big part of this was caused when they switched to massive Trackpad sizes without redesigning how they were supported. Don't get me wrong; it's absolutely great that "premium" Windows devices started using Trackpads as good as those found on MacBooks (around 2016/2017 ish?), but some of the design implementations were... questionable, at best. Happy my XPS 15 9560 from 2017 didn't have this problem.

You can't trust any laptop manufacturer these days ...
Fixed that for you. Most for-profit companies on this planet have little incentive to ensure what they sell actually works as advertised after they've collected your money. Nobody's perfect (we're only human), but we wouldn't have nearly the number of problems we do if a company's profits were properly allocated to R&D and QA processes.

I also don't know if it's worth it for my next laptop to go snapdragon

#

I don't use many applications that aren't arm native, but also don't know if the battery life improvements are worth the compatibility costs, especially with the newer snapdragons that are coming

alpine gale
#

So long as all the apps you run are supported on Snapdragon, sure. ARM based devices get hella good battery life. However, if you need to run anything that isn't natively supported, IMO it's not worth it yet. I considered buying an ARM / Snapdragon laptop when looking for replacement devices in 2023, but the compatibility issues put me off.

cloud night
#

That's what I thought, especially with university, the only things I use right now are obsidian and chrome, so that might be useful for the next 2-3 years for me

#

At home I use everything, but I am always plugged in

You have 0 experience with arm laptops right?

alpine gale
#

0 personal experience, but knowing how to Google / Reddit search can get you a LOT of useful information.

cloud night
#

100% agree

#

I have done lots of research and have seen mixed opinions on them

#

There is usually two kinds of people, the first one that only uses arm native says that it's amazing, everything runs smoothly, no problems, amazing battery life.
Then the second one that uses a bit of obscure x86 software has issues with programs, can't edit videos because of the translation layer, ecc...

#

Obviously, that's generalizing a lot, but usually they fall pretty well in these two buckets

cloud night
#

Maybe I can still find it....

TL;DR: whatever device you buy, ensure it let's you get the shit done that you need to do. If it does (and you don't spend more time fighting it than you deem worth it) then it's the "correct" device for you.

iCloud Lock does not hard brick the device, which is what the term Brick on it's own originally meant. It's still functional - just needs the lock removed through legit methods. (If the word "soft" were put before "brick" then yes, iCloud Lock is a soft-brick.)

A brick (or bricked device) is an electronic device, specially consumer electronics (such as a mobile device, game console, computer, etc.) that is no longer functional. It could be due to corrupted firmware, a hardware problem, or other damage. The term analogizes the device to a brick's modern technological usefulness. "Brick" is also used as ...

I'mHi everyone,
I’m Elizabeth. I’m originally from South Africa and I’ve been living in Florida for a while now.
I really enjoy cooking, hiking, learning about different cultures, and watching K-dramas in my downtime. I also run a small online store on the side — it started as a passion project and has slowly grown into something I’m proud of. Most days, it’s just me packing orders, testing new ideas, and trying to stay curious.
I tend to be a bit chatty once I get comfortable, so if you ever want to talk travel, food, or just life in general, I’m always up for a conversation.
Happy to be here and looking forward to getting to know you all.
