with some googling, we worked out he would be in the hole for somewhere close to half a million dollars now

wav is lossless, its a raw bitstream with a header at the front of the file... of course it sounds good.. the problem is.. its been surpassed with better formats.. formats that keep the lossless-ness of it, while being much more convenient for storage

mp3 sucks ass for quality, but great for how little space it takes.. ogg is not widely supported on devices... mp4/m4a is a good middle ground where its good quality, high compression, widely supported.... FLAC is better quality, with relatively high compression still, but also not widely supported outside of speicalist devices

FLAC will sound identical to WAV through anything... FLAC is the same bitstream.. but compressed... its effectively a WAV inside a ZIP file...

if anything... FLAC will sound better than WAV, because FLAC has more options for better sample rates than WAV does

As technology becomes more advance and improves, internet speeds will be more faster than 300mbps, some countries have better speeds but your milage may vary depending on the country.

wdym by this? I've seen wav used for RF because it uses such a large sample rate integer (32-bit, ~4.3GHz). FLAC maxes at just 16-bit * 10 (655.36kHz)
