Most decent power supplies will not just immediately turn on. There is actually a momentary delay as the internal circuitry powers up and stuff.

It’s actually really funny because early the power supplies from the 1970s and 80s would have that weird delay, but that was more because of manufacturing limitations nowadays it’s because everything is so efficient and well engineered

You could also try turning the computer on once it is unplugged from the wall, in addition to the other steps before you unplug stuff from the power supply to the internal components of the computer

That should fully discharge most of the stuff

It’s actually pretty interesting how power supplies use capacitors. Slightly more power demanding applications such as large blower fans and larger pumps actually require a start up capacitor to get the current going without melting the wiring to the circuit panel

One of the reasons why really good high-quality power supplies are needed for higher end computer applications because you get spikes in power draw and the capacitors are basically a cushion against that so you don’t trip your breaker or crash the computer or whatever

And I ended up having the one (minor) problem I feared. The Hybrid fan mode meant under load the fan would stay off for a while, but eventually turn on quite loudly, before settling to a low speed, then turning off again soft silent operation before repeating the cycle

So I ended up disabling the hybrid mode as that ended up being quieter and less annoying in the long run

Yeah, I’m pretty wary of silent fan mode. I’d much rather have a fan that wears out vs a power supply that pops because it overheated.

Let me rephrase it: if your computer was 100% efficient it would sit at ambient temperature and not put out any heat. You’re not actually using all of the power you’re pulling from the wall. And a lot of it gets wasted as heat.
