thats untrue, depending on the "fake" kit you buy... the unterminated slots can cause interference in your ram, and can make it harder to overclock higher... so if you are planning on overclocking, and squeezing every last bit of performance out of 2 sticks, you want specific kits of dummy DIMMs that terminate the pins properly, which stops the interference and gets you higher OCs

but in general, its true, they are pointless for most people
