The PoS was configured to check-in with Blackhawk's servers to verify if the <Security Software Subscription> had been redeemed or not. There was some kind of 30-60 second handshake delay, I presume to prevent someone from attempting to refund a code at the exact same time it was being redeemed, but tis how this worked.

Its a Asus vivobook, came with Windows 11. Plan was to wipe Windows and install Mint.

Turned off secure boot, fast boot, any other feature in bios Linux might not support. Windows wiped fine. Mint seemed to be installing fine. Got to the end where it installs grub to the EFI partition and fails.

Tried to install grub to the EFI manually using terminal. The failure error says it cannot write the EFI boot entry. It does install with --no-nvram or --portable flags, but doing so dumps me into the grub bash on startup and I'd have to manually load the kernel and boot.

I'm thinking its an issue with the UEFI from Asus laptops having some sort of thing which prevents a 3rd party from modifying boot entries.

I'm not sure yet how to get around this.

Also I did confirm I was in the UEFI version of the installer and bios was in UEFI. Also tried the boot repair utility to no avail.

At this point I think I will see if there is any new firmware for the laptop which may help. Failing that, I might try to install to a nvme in an external dock on the laptop to see if that succeeds, or do the same using my desktop then boot into it from the laptop (not great).

Oh, in that case, the best Gameboy was and still is the Super Nintendo Chalmers DSi or the "NEW 2DS" with a flashkart. No need to reinvent the wheel; Nintendo did this for us when they created the DSi / NEW DS platforms. They're hands down the perfect way to enjoy all my old NES (on the DSi) and SNES (on the NEW 2DS/3DS) titles.

If this computer is running Windows 10 or 11 and was in the middle of a Windows Update, it's likely fine. I haven't had Windows barf over being restarted / shut off during Windows updates since way back in the days of Windows 8 and prior. That said, the computer may require a couple of restarts to potentially undo the updates, then redo them.

When you decided to move the PSU to the front without checking if it would actually fit.
(I had to chop away a part of the GPU shroud and I'll have to make a bracket so the PSU stops resting onto the USB 3.0 connector)

Another option would be redoing and reallocating the drives somewhere else, and mount the PSU vertically, make a hole on the side panel and make it intake from there.
