What are you taking about bro

vapid smelt

Taking your foot off the gas

winged spire
#

Wha the fuck is an e peddle

warm summit
#

you still use the break like a regular automatic

winged spire
#

😭

warm summit
#

we call it ePedale in france

winged spire
#

You drive a Tesla

shut lichen
winged spire
#

You DO have regen braking

warm summit
winged spire
#

Bringing up brake peddle dust as an argument against EVs is literally the worst possible argument

shut lichen
#

There ain't a single real ev out there that doesn't Have Regen, it's kinda important for the car to not be shit

warm summit
#

i don’t care about my driving

#

like i will go back to an ice anyways

warm summit
#

you still need to break

winged spire
#

Like one of the biggest changes to EVs compared ICE is that they DONT usually use their brakes

winged spire
#

Like it is on the teslas

shut lichen
warm summit
#

same for the peugeot 208

winged spire
#

You didn’t know your car had a glove box for the first 3 years of ownership

warm summit
#

it have a B gear, but it doesn’t fully stop the car

winged spire
#

I won’t be taking your answer for another car’s features lol

winged spire
#

just hold in place

warm summit
#

just check renault 5 tests

#

same for the 208

vapid smelt
#

Why waste free energy breaking with pads

shut lichen
winged spire

To HOLD the vehicle in plsce

vapid smelt
#

Blends in break? So near the end it goes off to the pad?

shut lichen
winged spire
warm summit
shut lichen
winged spire
#

Once the regen brake stops you the actual brake pads go in

shut lichen
winged spire
#

It’s now clear to me that Enzo probably has never been in an EV lol

warm summit
#

you need to press the pedal so it doesn’t roll

vapid smelt
warm summit
#

i actually been in a renault 5 i know my shit

alpine gale
# winged spire That’s almost certainly a setting

Apparently it's not something that comes with the Renault 5 because why ship a fully completed car when we can tell users "X feature might be delivered via an update, pls buy our car!"
https://www.speakev.com/threads/renault-5-test-drive-mostly-good-one-major-concern.190729/

Boot space pretty good for such a compact car and also some under boot storage. No frunk.
No 1 pedal drive and the B- function it does have, not that strong overall. Apparently 1 pedal drive will come as an update.
I too like to spend $50,000 on something with features that "might" (or might never) be delivered. /s

winged spire
#

At high speeds it’s MUCH more resistance and slows down faster

#

Eases off as you get slower, makes it really smooth

#

I assume most EVs do the same

vapid smelt
#

Do you get Regen when creeping in a drive thru?

winged spire
#

Yeah

#

You won’t coast

#

You’ll creep a bit while slowing down to 0

#

You can see^^ that is a setting

#

You can change it to creep or roll

#

Aswell as hold

vapid smelt
#

I would put it on creep

winged spire
#

One peddle driving is kinda hard to explain in a way that doesn’t make it seem annoying

warm summit
#

i still press the break when stopped personally

winged spire
#

You kinda just gotta try it

winged spire
#

I really like it

#

You gotta get use to it though

warm summit
#

it’s one of the only think i like about the car

vapid smelt
winged spire
#

Probably much smoother though

#

Lol

#

Nah fr with one peddle driving and regen it’s just kinda something you gotta try for yourself tbh

#

You’ll naturally get a sense for stopping

#

You come upto a red light and you sorta just know when to let off the gas and coast to a stop at the light

vapid smelt
#

But I designed my driving style around coasting

winged spire
#

It takes a little adjustment

#

I VASTLY prefer it

#

They should find a way to add it to ICE cars lol

#

Overcharge your alternator

warm summit
winged spire
#

it would be very easy to do if you didnt care about the energy waste

#

you just apply the brakes gradually lol

warm summit
#

well i only have a master in finance so no knowledge in modern meca other than fixing 90’s shitbox

vapid smelt
#

Have the brake do things backwards and integrate it to the gas pedal

winged spire
#

the teslas do that when the battery is full

#

if youre at 100% obviously you cant regen .. where do you put the pwoer

vapid smelt

thats what this setting is

Yall seen this

#

This is the equation they’re using to get the tarrif rate

#

That epsilon times phi literally means 4*1/4

#

Which.. equals 1

#

So it’s exports minus imports decided by 1 times imports

#

They’re pretending it’s some complicated bs when they literally just added 1* a number

#

They probably thought the first one looked too simple so they asked chatgpt to make it look more complicated

minor falcon
winged spire
#

It’s really simple

minor falcon
#

just googling the exports and imports between usa and kuwait makes no sense...

"U.S. total goods trade with Kuwait were an estimated $4.1 billion in 2024. U.S. goods exports to Kuwait in 2024 were $2.4 billion, down 14.7 percent ($417.3 million) from 2023. U.S. goods imports from Kuwait totaled $1.6 billion in 2024, down 2.4 percent ($40.5 million) from 2023."

#

total trades 4.1b
usa -> kuwait 2.4b
kuwait -> usa 1.6b

#

yet we got a 10% tariff?

winged spire
#

It’s based on the trade imbalance

minor falcon
#

why

winged spire
#

Not a real number or anything

winged spire
minor falcon
#

some third world country got hit with 90% tariffs because they are too poor to buy from USA

minor falcon
#

they probably used google's AI

winged spire
#

They put tariffs on uninhabited islands because chatgpt just knows the country exists and didn’t see the context of how nobody lives there

minor falcon
#

ye lol RIP penguins. The 10% tariff will finish them off. ten_omg_cry

Also how are the tariffs "reciprocal"?

It would be cool if Framework had some kind of an awesome ARM64 board. Something with an NPU, support for GPUs, M.2, USB 3, 2.5GbE, TPM 2.0 (for Windows, I guess), DDR4 (DDR5?), and all the other things. I think (I would imagine) Microsoft would come around and let you sell it compatible with Windows 11 maybe, or it would work with Linux for sure. I bet the battery life would be incredible if you used the same battery as for the x86_64/amd64 boards.

Tensor cores are matrix multiplication accelerator. A neural network need linear operations (convolutions and GEMMs, which are done by tensor cores) and non-linear activations (mostly ReLU, done by CUDA core). For neural network inference, more than 95% compute workload is about linear operations.

So I'm an uniformed dumbass in this topic but I have observed that around 2019-2020 when chatgpt 2 went public and free there was a whole flood of end users flocking to stable diffusion web ui and text gen web ui.

Wouldn't it make sense that you put this hardware in as much users hands as possible you hasten the development of the platform itself

viscid elm
#

when did rtx 2000 come out

2018

nvidia already invested lots into changing everything for tensor cores

dlss 2.0 even better and dlss 3.0 is where people started saying go 4k and such

hazy parrot

How big was the gap between tensor being in everyone's gpus that people paid for without getting to use any of it

#

And this comes full circle to the NPU topic

Now that I think about it. A span of 2-4 years at most is a remarkably fast turnaround time

Chatbots cool but

#

Wheres the software

eager scroll
#

I mean Apple is always going to be Apple. Unless they start selling chips for everybody else to use then it only exists in Apple’s walled garden. Maybe it’ll be hard to compete with Apple unless you just don’t want an Apple product and you want something else. But I’m assuming you won’t be able to integrate their chips in any other hardware platforms. ARM on the other hand, that’s like their whole thing isn’t it? You get a custom CPU and you get a custom CPU.

viscid elm
#

local ai

viscid elm
#

well eh more spesific to nvidia and such

#

but there is many reasons for a NPU but for people to really invest into it they need the hardware

#

its like the case with tensor cores, it needed to be there for people to even be able to do good DLSS and FG and RT

hazy parrot
#

Yeah. You're right. The product has gotta be compelling enough to sell someone on more than just hopes and dreams

#

And rn it seems like all this new stuff is plenty beefy

#

Ah yea. Nice. Closure. Cool software will come sooner than later

viscid elm
#

it does not always work out like sata express or e sata

#

so many things have the hardware support but there are no products

eager scroll
#

It’s not hopes and dreams necessarily. Samsung is doing it somehow. They don’t strike me as a CPU manufacturer any more than Apple did. They’re both doing it somehow.

#

As for performance, I actually use an iPhone 16 Pro, so I’m a bad example, but these Androids are all decent for ARM. Microsoft was pushing Windows on Arm at one point. I think it’s a chip whose time hasn’t come but they might be on their way. Some of these ARM servers look impressive. At some point it might be compelling. For me it’s more curiosity. I’d be down with a Framework mainboard module for it. If it were practical of course.

viscid elm
#

apple silicon is arm

#

arm servers are great for aplications where they run way better the more cores you have and need lower power and costs

eager scroll
#

I think the Samsung is too, and I think they’re doing custom chips

viscid elm
#

i do not know of any modern phones with anything but arm chips

#

well i have heard of risc-v ones but eh they are uhm risc-v

and some companies don't even use their NPU's because budget device

#

logic where?

viscid elm
#

its more a case of AI boom, things come with NPUs but since the devices with NPUs just came out they do not have software for it

eager scroll
viscid elm
#

the issue is more very specific use cases due to them being just good enough for very specific things while what will really make NPUs useful would be fully locally run AI models

#

by the look of it for desktop cpus its only until recently we have seen anything NPU

eager scroll
#

I mean at some point if you don’t have an NPU, operating systems might not let you login.

#

They will insist on seeing your face be face like and you like enough.

#

My iPhone does this already. Windows doesn’t. Yet.

#

Isn’t that what the NPUs are used for in real time on my iPhone? And other than that the Siri thing that never gets anything right?

viscid elm
#

siri was a thing way way before apple did NPUs

eager scroll
#

Sure, I guess. I don’t even know what it does, for sure.

#

I just know Microsoft insists it’s necessary.

viscid elm
#

TPM 2.0

eager scroll
#

As for my preclusion about NPUs, it’s just a matter of everybody else is doing it so why not?

#

We could call it Secure Enclave but that doesn’t help me figure out what it does.

#

I guess that’s cool. I don’t know how secure it really is.

#

Perhaps better than nothing, which would be the case of just another file locked by the operating system.

hazy parrot
eager scroll
#

Maybe if it’s end to end encrypted between the app and the user perhaps it’s secure but I don’t know if that’s entirely possible.

hazy parrot
#

I just hope some actually end user software comes out of these npus, not just a spin on chat or image diffusion.

eager scroll
#

OK sounds trickier to hack maybe

viscid elm

only hardware access makes it big secure
