Maybe a hot take but when consumer computer tech is left for dead by the OEM after its life expectancy, like the Xbox 360 or PS3, it should be legally required to dump all tools and information necessary for consumer enthusiasts to keep these still working modern devices alive

These are still capable of being great 1080p streaming boxes. XBMC local streaming, to Hulu YouTube Netflix etc. Hell, with a stadia or steam streaming type thing, you could even still use them to stream modern games from your gaming PC to your living room TV.

There's still sooo much use in these devices. Yet they are destined for the trash while these companies pride themselves on being environmentally friendly mass producing waste

An Apple tangent on this, in 2005 they released the Quad PowerMac G5. 20+ Pounds of aluminum on its own. The next year apple would complete its Intel transition, by 2008 the last PowerPC Macs were nearly fully abandoned.
Thousands of these short lived Quad PM G5s were produced. Just to immediately obsoleted. These mac's never even got a major OS update before being destined for the trash pit.

Huge PowerPC nerd, I used them extensively in their last days from 2009 through 2017. They got iLife 09, and iTunes updates into 2012. That's it.

Honestly, if you aren't sure - or if you aren't after INSANELY stable WiFi - I'd go with a PCI-E card from a reputable manufacturer. If you want maximum stability, speed possible, etc - I'd go with M.2, but make sure it comes with the antenna that goes to the back of the PC. Trust me, I've had issues with that.

If you're after cheap, you get what you pay for but still meh - go USB
