The consumer GPU market has always been the "hey look at this neat thing we did" part of the business as far back as Maxwell / Pascal. the thing that bothers me about the nvidia ROPS issue is that those fabs have so much, SO MUCH automated QA, and "is the chip what it says it is" is one of the most basic steps, one of the easiest tests to run, and one of the easiest tests to fail on while also recovering the die its self to put in a lower tier card (such as fusing off some stuff and slapping what was supposed to be a 5090 die into a 5080ti)... the fact that these made it through QA at the fab, then made it through QA at the manufacturing process too, by whoever has made the boards... makes it seem like its almost on purpose

First off, I'm not really an AMD fanboy. I just have an eight gigabyte card, and I fucking hate it. Also Nvidia pricings are awful, and they'll stay awful. Intel isn't even in the ring, so that only leaves AMD. As for the 9070xt, there are tons of leaks, from some very reliable leakers (MLID). If Radeon price their cards shittily, I guess I'll just wait. If they price them well (9070xt might be priced at 600 USD whilst being 10% behind a 5080) then I'll buy it. Also Nvidia still don't support Linux that well yet and I want off Windows.

As for the 5070 TI being better than the 4070TI SUPER, have you looked at the retail prices? Even IF it's stronger, it's not a generational leap, far from it. Also, IT'S DOUBLE THE RETAIL PRICE, ALMOST.

Now for using a 5070 for 4K. The 3090 can do 4k. The 4070 is stronger than it. The 5070 is (slightly) stronger than that (no faster than the 4070 SUPER according to leaks). The only reason those cards won't be able to play 4k, while the 3090 still can, is because those cards have HALF THE VRAM.

Yeah, but lemme just put plainly that most games that already exist don't even use modern features, and that ones that do tend to vary in their utilization of them to where none of them go very high up the stack in performance demands.

Only other ones not in the triple-A territory that do this are mostly the current console games that heavily push those features, which is really not all either. Go down the production budget territories, you find a lot of games don't even push it much and that ones that do either don't do it well or do it very minimally.

The 4070 is as strong as a 3090 but has half the VRAM, and that's a big problem in certain cases at launch, and I can guarrantee you that card will not age well - hell it's already no aged well.

Yeah because that's most of the hardware market, and if you're a dev porting from console, not all games fully utilize 10 gigs for graphics alone either. It's probably even possible to run a game with everything from rt/pt to advance mesh shade LoDs without requiring tons of memory at once, since a lot of them will have devs incentivised to optimize around faster storage access anyway to make up for it.
