You would much rather want to focus on being efficient with your usage rather than actually increasing capacity constantly

#

Work it both ways not just one way

wary summit
#

i’d rather android any day, but i’m going on a roadtirp across states and in australia you’re lucky you get cell service 100km from a CBD

#

and satellite sos kinda only on iPhone outside of china

#

and i’m not buying a garmin inreach

patent violet
#

I'm okay with iPhones being the test bed here

#

Those satellite modems still require a lot of tweaking because they are pretty damn noisy

wary summit
#

is there anything on aliexpress to adapt Satellite connectivity to an android?

patent violet
#

Not only that but anything that Apple actually innovates on top of this gets signed over to starlink to be marketed to other OEMs and carriers

I just finished a major writing assignment for a college class. It is not the best but dang am I proud of it.

dusky jacinth
# patent violet Work it both ways not just one way

Which also leads to Apple having somewhat of an advantage to anyone else by them having their own ecosystem, because they can set the rules for how things work.
Technically, you can do this with something like Android, but it's looser in requirements because it's meant to be implemented in any phone of any spec and thus each install needs to be tweaked and adjusted for each phone it's put on.

Holy crap… I know what happened… windows was updating it tired to update my driver… I thought it wasn’t turning off so I turned off the psu… that was my fault… I corrupted my own gpu

patent violet
dusky jacinth
#

Especially the custom models back a few years that used to do things quite creatively, like having two screens to one device in different sizes and aspect ratios, or having modular components or add-ons.

patent violet
#

For what it's worth I would actually prefer to have an operating system which is perfect at what it does at the level of an operating system and then let hardware OEMs build something that is perfect for what it is built to do agnostic of whatever operating system is running on it

#

Having Android separate of the OEMs opens up many more doors than Apple actually has but yes the control is lost and you can get much more forced innovation out of that

dusky jacinth
#

Still funny how back then when Android only just got onto the scene, there was like... Several different phone OS' that were around, a few of them even being built from Linux kernel, like WebOS.

I'm probably not going to repair it again.

#

It's funny to think I can use an STM32 and get way more processing power out of it with shitloads more connectivity at 1/60th the cost of whatever SOC this has at its time

dusky jacinth
#

Well yeah, no surprise. The thing runs a Motorola 68k for the cpu.

The STM32 runs a Cortex-M. Not sure which one you have either, but any of them could beat that thing with even less power too.

I have a very specific question. I am planning on buying a nice TV, I made my choice it's going to be an 85' Neo QLED Samsung TV.
I'm from Mongolia and here people add like 200-500 USD on the price because they imported it. I was browsing Taobao and there the TV is cheaper then anything here, but there's one issue. Chinese samsung or not doen't have any google play services so its a hassle to use, is there any way to make google play services work on these Chinese TV's?

The cost of the TV is like 2200USD at most, but here they're selling for 2,800USD which is outrageous. I could order from amazon there are some companies that ship orders to Mongolia on behalf of me, but the shipping is crazy expensive plus it might be 110V and here we use 220V, there are multiple issues to keep in mind, the shipping will take at least 2 months maybe 3. wait when could we upload media to gen OMEGALUL

alpine gale
# wary summit what are american upload to download speed ratios like?

Depends on your provider and location.

  • Fiber is usually 1gbit or more down and symmetrical (or half-symmetrical) up. (depends on how the ISP decides to distribute their overall bandwidth in a given area.)
  • Coax (DOCSIS) is usually anywhere from 200mbps - 2gbit down and either ~30 / 100 / 150 / 500mbps up. (depends on how the network is built where you live.)
  • VDSL / Dial-up is dear god I hope they upgrade my area soon down and what the fuck is this upload in the year 2025 up. (again, depends on where you live.)
wary summit
#

we have COAX

alpine gale
# wary summit why is our upload so limited, australia ddosed deepseek like a gigaton and we on...

Coax (DOCSIS) requires the plant (all the equipment between you and the hubsite) be upgraded from "mid-split" to "high-split" frequencies in order to open up more upload channels, which in turn results in more upload speeds. Old school Cable TV broadcasts occupy the frequencies required for this to happen, so until everyone in your area switches over to IPTV based Set Top Boxes for Cable TV... it's not gonna happen.

if they are fully dummy sticks, with no traces on them at all, other than the i2c lines that allow the rgb to be controlled.. then there will be absolutely no difference... but if it has a full set of traces. they can either positively or negatively affect performance. the "pins"/connectors you connect to inside a ram slot, act as antenna, and can cause interference with its neighbouring sockets, if those pins are connected to traces on a dummy DIMM, and are properly terminated, that interference will be mitigated and** CAN** positively improve performance. but if terminated incorrectly, it can make the signal interference worse

fossil frost
# wary summit this ass covering is crazy tho:

"only for intel" with those dummy sticks you shared a picture of means "we have only bothered to test these on intel motherboards... so we are saying they are only for intel, because we are too lazy to test on amd"

wary summit

fair enough

fossil frost

but thats a much longer PS to add

wary summit

obsidian oracle

then dont buy it bruh lmfaoooo

#

its not that hard to go to another page

wary summit
#

but i don't get why it won't work its literally +- and like 2 pins

obsidian oracle
#

we explained it will

wary summit
obsidian oracle
#

then dont buy it

wary summit
fossil frost
#

i would almost guarantee that it will work on AMD boards, since DDR5 and DIMM is a set standard... and those 4 pins are SPI, not i2c (just looked it up), effectively the same thing as i2c done in a slightly different way, and different protocol... but it is still a standard way of a cpu and motherboard and software communicating with the ram, asking it for info, and giving it instructions

#

theres no such thing as AMD only ram, or intel only ram, so there would be no such thing as amd only RGB sticks, or intel only RGB sticks

wary summit

haha that sounds so funny

but, its your money, your computer, your choice.. either buy it, or dont

wary summit
#

oh the website has AMD EXPO specific ram

#

am5 should be fine on 96gb, no amd memry controller strugglesright

fossil frost

it doesnt... it has AMD EXPO optimised ram... AMD prefers low latency, Intel prefers high mhz... that website has deeply misunderstood that, and are misleading their customers

fossil frost

i meant memory controller struggles

obsidian oracle

fossil frost
obsidian oracle

you dont have to worry about a random ass part on the cpu

wary summit

then why don't i just get 4x48

austere shale
obsidian oracle
#

why dont u?

wary summit
#

cuz dual chan better than 4 supposedly

obsidian oracle
#

faster, not neccessarily better for everyone

#

you not noticing = it doesnt matter

fossil frost
# wary summit then why don't i just get 4x48

you can, if your motherboard is validated for it, and your particular CPU is validated for it... and even then, if they are not validated, they could still work... and that is only partly to do with the memory controller

wary summit
#

ahh got it

#

this build has been a bit hectic

austere shale
#

I can run 6000mhz in dual channel but if I wanna go quad channel I can only go 4800mhz, real world not that big of a difference but a difference no less

wary summit
#

first 5090 shortage, then needing to fill out the ram slots

fossil frost
#

AMD memory controllers are optimised for lower latency, rather than high mhz, because in general, lower latency is better for gaming, than high mhz... intel optimises for high mhz because people who are too stupid to understand how computers work just want big number because big number

you can run 1+3, or 2+4, either will allow it to run in dual channel, 2+4 will be slightly less efficient than 1+3, but will still be dual channel, and loads better than single channel... 1+2 or 3+4, or 1, or 2, or 3, or 4 on their own will be single channel
