the windows API is versioned. i would assume that they are currently using some older versions of the windows SDK that are either missing security fixes that newer versions have, or they are using a newer sdk, but older apis that they want to avoid using and want to start using the newer more efficient or more secure apis

and using those new sdks or new apis, mean not being able to support 7/8

and yes, there is no single benchmark that is correct, or even worth looking at... all benchmarks give an idea of how well a component performs at a particular task, not always the task that you are going to be using it for
