I'm running a Surface Laptop 6 for Business. The laptop is always hot to the touch, almost burns. HW Monitor says 105 degrees C on Package and P Cores - and I'm doing nothing CPU intensive AFAIK. My wife has a Surface Laptop Go, often thermal throttles as well and freezes up when using Teams.

I don't know if I'm just a special case, and granted it's 33 degrees C here outside, but online there seems to be many complaints about Surface laptops overheating in general. I have a client who started complaining about heating and battery life on their Surface Laptops, they now have the ARM Surfaces to replace those with issues - but now they have other unrelated ARM issues (Printer Drivers, Teams Updates crashing (irony) etc). 😄

Yet I do believe LTT has spoken well of the brand/laptop, so I'm not sure.

Just a word of caution is all. I'm now in the process of asking two of my colleagues to compare CPU Temps/notes to try figure out if this is a warranty replaceable thing or "normal".

Well, setting Maximum Processor state under Power Options to 99% might at least keep this device alive while I await RMA...

Within seconds it spikes past 100degrees C and 1.277 VID (max) while on 100% power setting - even though actual CPU utilization is only jumping around 7 - 25%. But at 99% power setting so far in 10 minutes the max I've seen is 73degrees C and 1.088 VID (max). Feels like this thing is just turbo boosting for no reason as well, I could be wrong though.

Different product families (Zen 2 vs Zen3) have architectural differences that can make up for differences in clock speed

It's usually from the coils in the power delivery, yes. A coil anywhere in a design can technically produce coil whine, but there aren't likely to be strong enough harmonics to make them audible outside of power delivery.

Sometimes wrapping a ferrous core around the wires actually kills coil whine. I'm still not sure how the physics behind that is actually working because it shouldn't be interference or whatever... But it's an interesting trick I've seen. Good luck not making it look obvious

Still it's kind of hard to even call it a problem though. When it's so easily rectified. I think a little bit of noise is less of a problem than the inconsistent frame rate, fan noise, and overall increase in system thermals that running at these really high power limits entail
