waitng times are just as long, and no plans have been made to fix anything

though if you do have an actual real serious illness.. you dont see those long queues at all

i have private health cover through work, used it a bunch for the dentist and for eye tests.. never needed it for anything else... and you usually just get sent to the same NHS hospitals/doctors, with the same waiting times... but BUPA pays for it, instead of the government...

yeah, friend of mine has gaul stones, but because she isnt dying because of them, shes been waiting 18 months to be seen so far... was told she was faking them twice... a different friend of mine was suspected of having bowl cancer, was in hospital the next day, test results the day after, operated on the day after that... that was 4 weeks ago, hes currently recovering at home, trying to put weight back on to make the followup chemo easier to deal with

the wait times are better/worse depending on where you live and/or what it is you have wrong with you

mental health stuff is still treated like it was 20 years ago too... anxiety? good luck getting beyond your GP and just being pushed back out the door with sertraline, depression? here is some trazodone and go away... you want/need therapy? you better have £££ and go private, because NHS therapists have a 3 year wating list

a different friend of mine waited 3 years to have a hernia sorted... by the time he got the operation appt... it had sort of just sorted its self out

yet another different friend... tore one of his hamstring muscles.. like.. tore it right off the bone... NHS told him that there would be a 9 month wait for an operation... by which time, the muscle would likely have completely died.. so, he, as a business owner... paid for BUPA cover for everyone at his business, and then used that cover for himself, to get an operation within 3 weeks.. so hes effectively paid almost nothing, because most of it comes back in tax relief, everyone who works for him gets health cover, he no no longer has to deal with potentially sending the rest of his life with a limp and next to no power in 1 leg... (hes a marathon runner and a cyclist)

its more that, mental health is still viewed by most of the world, and a lot of the medical profession, as not really real... and its just "being soft"... and if you want to actually do something about your mental health with people who actually know what they are doing... its very very expensive

we want more doctors, but dont want them from the countries they generally come from. and people from the uk who DO train as doctors, immediately leave and go to other countries where the pay is much higher, because we pay our doctors nothing compared to some other places

averages are a way of lying to people that things are better or wose than they are, depending on what you are trying to say
