When you make 1 or 1000 or 100000, the machine that makes it is a fixed cost, and costs the same no matter what. So the more you make, the cheaper that machine is per unit. it's also the setup for that machine which inherently had downtime associated with it. And if you are asking someone to do it as a one off, they are now not making money on their easy bulk jobs.
