Contrary to the current popular lie, Linux isn’t this plug and play OS. To get most of the stuff to even attempt to launch a game or a browser that isn’t Firefox you have to go and find these things and hope they work. Even after all that time, I could not get my Xbox controller to be recognized and I couldn’t get any game that already didn’t have a native Linux version to launch. It took me that long because I was forced to run around and play IT support to just get anything bloody working.

As far as I’m concerned, Linux being an actual easy to use competitor to Windows is a myth and until it reaches the same actual plug and play functionality that windows has native, it should stop being recommended to the average user. They’ll run into the same stuff I did and they won’t want to bother and just go back to windows anyways.

That’s genuinely a bummer then. Ubuntu is one of the ones I’d recommend for a smooth experience. I’ve got two generic off brand Xbox controller’s and have not had issues on either. I specifically use PopOS so that might change the equation a little but I’ve also not heard of those types of issues on Ubuntu. Normally I just go into the store, click install chrome and I’m off to the races. What type of hardware do you use?

Here’s my shortcuts shit

1. Add grocery, self explanatory. Adds to a reminder style grocery list
2. Add transactions to YNAB opens the YNAB app directly to the transaction addition page
3. Add new calendar opens the calendar app to add event
4. Reminders done everything in the script. No time just to-do-list
5. DND is activated if phone is not on sleep. Is able to be toggled on and off
6. Mute is independent and turns off ringer and volume and set to silent
7. Sleep is sleep. Sets low power mode and airplane mode.
