The PCH is going to be the most power hungry on the motherboard. The Super I/O comes next

the USB controllers are gonna suck down a ton of power IF you have anything power hungry plugged into them, ie. your phone

Everything else like network controllers and audio chips or whatever go between 0.2W-4W depending on what they are doing

I'm not considering things like that because I would actually have to consider fans that are connected to your motherboard as power hungry also when in reality it's the device you connect that is the power hungry piece

But you do have to consider that whenever you are trying to size your PSU

When they start fitting PD capable type C ports on motherboards it's going to be interesting

only if you work from your machine, and you cant afford to lose that work just in case the power goes out... surge protector is 100% needed though, a £15 surge protector can prevent your £2000+ PC from being toasted

power outages can cause power surges, and power surges can toast your psu, or, motherboard, or cpu, or anything else.. you need a surge protector... UPS is for when you want to have enough time to save your work and shutdown safely

That relies on the Super IO functioning but since I'm fucking around with low-level shit all of that functionality and interrupts just freeze up

When you are messing about in the EFI, you are actually messing with the layer that has all that functionality loaded up

You freeze up something like the ACPI and suddenly crap like fans go wild and your PC is stuck
