IG was given the same mandate... But tried to force some minor rewrites, some refactors.. while making the game bigger, so it was/is incredibly inefficient, incredibly slow, and buggy, because it was relying on foundations that were already crap. IG then spent 3 year on it, and got the core gameplay done, but only 1 step on the "complete game" roadmap that they published.

Part of it was also that they wanted to bring in new players, so they had to dumb down the gameplay, which alienated the core player base, so the core players didn't like it, and it was still considered too complex for most new players.. so original players didn't like it and didn't want to pay for it, and new players didn't want to play it. So it was costing a fortune to make, and was selling almost nothing

So let's be a bit more detailed

Screens as said don't inherently ruin eyesight

There are two things that could and can be exhausting to the eyes generally speaking. Amount of light and having to skint to read small things or have something that is hard to look at/read

The first one, everyday life has waaaaaay more light than what a screen is outputting, which is BTW kind of why we are fighting to get hdr monitors and TV with higher nits so that's not really a problem... As long as you don't disturb your internal clock of night/day by sending light to your eyes at night but it's not related to the size of the screen. You should lower the brightness and blue light at evening anyway

Then comes the resolution, the human eye has around 1minute of arc of resolution, it's not the inly factor sure, but a 4k display at 40 degrees of fov has a pixel "degree" lower than our resolution so that's again not a problem

However, having the TV or screen be too small and be slightly struggling to read things or whatever may be more damaging, or at the very least exhausting

But then again I'm not a doctor, however it is consistent with my experience over the years (I had basically almost any size and format of screens) and with what I read online over the years

Oh and as for the "hard to read" it's not forcefully only small things but low contrast, low brightness, lots of reflection or even color fringing on oled for example

I can handle smaller fov (size/distance ~) for movies but not for gaming where you have to be more focus, read a bit or a lot depending on the game and pick up more details overall in the world you are playing
