image generation is effectively.. generate loads of noise... then run a denoising algorithm over it.. and then compare it to an apple... if its closer to an apple, it goes to the next step... almost all of the noise is added back... and repeat... with slightly less noise added every time.. the "compare it to an actual apple" bit, is the new bit... but thats also not "new"... given 100s of images that are tagged as "apple", you can get a basic equation of "apple", and compare each denoised image to that to see if you are closer or further away

none of it is magic... its all just basic algorithms we have had for a long time.. we just use them in an automated way now
