but after thinking about it there are things i feel like they should do but a full breakup or selling off of android isnt one of them i agree google should't be allowed to pay for default granted that will hurt firefox a LOT and apple tbh but selling off android is a BAD BAD idea its open source and pretty good if something like meta buys it makes it closed source and charges it will be worse also think about all the good services like google translate and maps that would be erased

apple even said it would cost over 500 million and YEARS to get to googles level indexing is harder then making a browser

i do think that the reddit google deal tho is bad tho they need to stop google from just buying default and exclusives

How are companies not allowed to choose? Mozilla chose to sell the option of Google being the default search engine for the majority of their funding.

They have been trying to diversify their funding for ages and have been unable to do so.

Apple chooses to sell the default search engine option to Google as well.

Microsoft at one point wanted Apple to buy Bing, but Apple was not interested. Microsoft blamed Google, but Apple's Eddy Cue said that Apple was concerned that Bing could not compete in "quality and capabilities." Cue claimed that Apple uses Google as the ‌iPhone‌'s default search engine because Apple has "always thought it was the best."

T-Mobile actually does kind of need to buy up stuff. The fact that they merged with Sprint was good due to the fact that this way you actually have three companies that are about the same size versus two large and two smaller.

Not to mention Sprint was falling apart anyways, they were struggling to pay their debts and laying off people massively. Their world HQ which is here in my city, over half of it was rented out. That's not something a healthy company does.

Traditionally, US courts hearing antitrust cases have defined anticompetitive behavior by assessing whether consumers have been harmed by a monopolist—with an emphasis on economic harm: that is, higher prices. Google argues that, since its search services are free, there can be no such harm.

blazing beacon

also the government only goes after big tech but does nothing about housing or utilities who have been upping costs

static stag
# vapid smelt what if used car dealers only showed you bmws

But I'm not really sure what that has to do with anything considering the fact that you could easily take the exact same search to bing, ddg or some other alternative.

Kind of like used car dealers, they only have what they have and you search multiple ones unless you find what you need and want.

harsh quartz

Cause, according to you, this will cut out a revenue stream of “billions” , you think that won’t result in layoffs?

#

So maybe we shouldn’t do that either

Just let Google keep going

maybe 20% but not the majority of the company

harsh quartz
#

Just fuck that 20% huh?

blazing beacon

whats worse

#

20% or 70%

harsh quartz
#

Quite frankly, idc, hurt the companies. Monopolist practices need to end and have been let fester for too long.

currently i wanna go with the lesser evil choice punish them but dont destroy them correct the problem to not add more expense to consumers during a rough time

blazing beacon

blazing beacon

maxium punishment is like shooting a rocket into a neighborhood u might get the target and wipe out 50 other people too vs a sniper we need to be the sniper in this

grim belfry
blazing beacon

for example after WW2 99% of the bad people got off with a fine because tossing 30 million people in jail for maximum punishment can be bad [bad comparison but lets be real nothing google does can compare to them so if they got a fine common]

won't someone think of the corporations!

blazing beacon

blazing beacon
blazing beacon
#

im sure in a market where investors are investing less destroying one of the best investments and sinking all that money will totally make them wanna invest more and boost the economy

#

google isn't in a vacuum this will do damage to EVERYONE we should take an approach to punish but not erase them

harsh quartz
#

That doesn’t matter. Repercussions don’t matter when it comes to the law. The company broke the law. The company should face the repercussions of the law.

blazing beacon
#

the law also has to account for the cost to society as well

harsh quartz
#

And maybe the economy shouldn’t be so dependent on a tech giant?

blazing beacon
#

well it is and doing this is not a good way to solve that

#

what im saying is an in-between not a 2 million fine that wouldn't do anything im saying do a prompt stop them from paying instead of wiping them

harsh quartz

Not enough.

blazing beacon

it is because we shouldnt want to crossfire everyone else too

we should try this first at least
