some people are just stupid

graceful burrow
#

Can you not directly misinform people thanks

hearty spear

no it's fucking not

wispy marsh
#

But not for the cpu

graceful burrow
#

90c is fine too lol

#

Not even throttle temps lmao

strange elk
#

Shitting me?

hearty spear
#

There is no computer component that cares about being at 80c

strange elk
wispy marsh
#

You're right

hearty spear
#

(Well, maybe the liquid in the AIO cares. If that's 80c you have some SERIOUS issues)

wispy marsh
#

Hmm

graceful burrow
#

I just wouldn't run at 90 cause you're so close to throttle temps if the temp does increase you're basically right there

crystal light

Keep in mind I like to keep my computers for between 5-8 years

I push my parts to 90-100C daily

I should dial back on the GPU

My GPU crashes sometimes bc of the overclock but other then that it's fine

VRChat is my hottest game, for CPU. Idek for GPU it doesnt go that high during stressing so I never bothered to care

So you guys think that I can configure my CPU to deliver way more performance if I tweak settings?

so basically your issues:

  1. you have a wimpy ass cooler, and should get a better one. PA 120 SE is a great cooler and a bargain.

  2. your motherboard settings are bad. You should look into fixing those. Youtube can probably help

  3. don't worry so much about 80c, it's REALLY not a problem.

Oh you think I should get a new cooler before tweaking the settings? Makes sense I guess

hearty spear
#

YOu can probably get some of the score improvement if you tweak first, but your temps will go /up/

crystal light
#

Well it basically never goes above 70C even on the hardest of loads so

strange elk
#

OEM/integrated NAS solutions like Synology arent for me. I mean Ill probably grab some secondhand rack hardware eventually from the likes of Dell or HP but other than that I just build my own machines.

# silk quarry quick question- what is the architecture of a gpu chip? like a 4090 or 7900xtx. ...

Think of the architectures like this : x86-64 is like a car shop with one bay with one mechanic to work on the car. A car pulls in and each part of the car that needs to be fixed gets worked on in order. The tires get changed, then the oil, etc. A GPU (AMD, Intel NVIDIA) is like thousands of bays with multiple mechanics in each bay. Multiple parts of the car are repaired at the same time and if a part of the car can't be fixed in one bay it is moved to another.

#

If you have a multi core CPU then you expand the amount of bays, multi threading adds more mechanics. But imagine the CPU bays are HUGE and the GPU bays are tiny.

#

You can fit more GPU bays in the same area as a CPU bay.

Still trying to wrap my head around this msft “recall” stunt

#

US currency is used globally & switching to plastic which is not sustainable in any measure is a stupid idea.

grim belfry
#

Polymer banknotes last much longer than paper banknotes, and are recyclable at eol

polar fern
#

Doesn’t matter it’s still made from crude oil and they are not recyclable. It’s a stupid idea.

#

The vast majority of plastic is not recycled

#

Especially plastic films

grim belfry
polar fern
#

plastic films are typically sent to the landfill, or they get blown or washed out to sea

grim belfry
#

Plastic films have nothing to do with banknotes?

polar fern

It is a plastic film

grim belfry

Ah yes, more greenwashing

It’s amazing what people will believe.

There are literally like a hundred billion US bills in circulation.

switching all of that to plastic would be catastrophic for the environment

Why is there no circumstance compensation

#

or at the very least, genetic compensation

grim belfry

?

blissful star

if your life outcome is determined by factors of which you have no control then why aren't people that ended up in poor circumstances
compensated for this fact?

grim belfry

blissful star

I'm switching the topic ig lol

#

the only difference between Hamilton (F1 driver, $55 mil salary) and a grocery store worker (the same age as him), is circumstances of which they had no control, their genetic makeup, their epigenetics (how those genes interacted with environment through their adolescence.) which ultimately put them in the positions they are at, so how come we are't compensating the person in the poor position to average out the differences? doesn't make any sense.

#

another way to look at it is that Hamilton could not have been any other person other than the best F1 driver in history, it is not his doing.

#

Magnus Carlsen when he was asked how he became the greatest Chess player that has ever existed (read his wiki lol), his reply was simply
"I don't know", and that's because it's not his doing, he simply exist within a machine that is capable of doing the things he does.

#

and the solutions that arise within his mind as he's playing chess which allow him to dominate is completely beyond him.

#

this is true for all homo sapiens that has ever existed and will ever exist.

#

because of this, differing salaries make no sense, praise and punishment make no sense.

#

because nothing is our own doing.

#

and could never be.

#

You have no control over:
personality, behaviour, intelligence, your prenatal environment, parenting style, the culture you inherited, genes, childhood, trauma and adversity, family values, socioeconomic status, neurotransmitter sensitivity, brain structure, desires you have, thoughts you are able to have, impulse control, doing the hard things when it matters, stress tolerance, extraversion, introversion, millions of years of evolution, the list goes on and on.

therefore belief in free will is inhumane.

The sentence "the fact you are sitting at a computer typing this is because of the properties of materials that made these computers possible so they could exist when you lived" relates to the concepts of free will and determinism in the following ways:

Determinism:

The sentence suggests that your current action—sitting at a computer typing—is the result of a series of causes and effects rooted in the properties of materials and technological development. This aligns with deterministic views that all events, including human actions, are determined by preceding events in accordance with the laws of nature.
According to determinism, your choice to sit and type at a computer is not entirely free but is influenced by a chain of prior conditions, such as the invention of computers, the development of materials science, and your own life circumstances that led to this moment

The processes in our brains, like all other physical processes in the universe, are governed by the laws of physics.
At the most fundamental level, our thoughts, emotions, and actions are the result of electrical and chemical signals in our brains, which are made up of atoms and molecules that follow the laws of physics. In this sense, the idea of free will as a completely independent, non-physical force that can act outside the laws of nature is challenged.
This view aligns with a position known as "hard determinism," which claims that all events, including human behavior, are ultimately determined by prior causes and the laws of nature. According to this view, the feeling of free will is an illusion, and our actions are entirely determined by our genetics, upbringing, and other environmental factors.

We are biological machines, like all other organisms, acting out according to these laws.

heres an AI answer to your AI statement

While the deterministic view suggests that all events, including human actions, are determined by preceding events, there are several arguments against this perspective:

  1. Incoherence of Ordained Morality: The association of moral responsibility and free will is not only deeply intuitive, it is also logically necessary. Denying the association of moral responsibility and free will results in incoherence¹.

  2. Determinism is Self-Refuting: If free will is an illusion and everything is predetermined, then the ultimate cause of why a person believes that free will is an illusion and everything is predetermined is that they were predetermined to do so. But it’s hard to see how a belief can be considered “true” or “false” when it is, ultimately, simply a predetermined event¹.

  3. Refuting Determinism By Action: You know what a person truly believes by how they act more than by what they say. On this basis, it's suggested that everyone who deliberates believes in free will, even if they think they do not, for it's impossible to deliberate without acting on the conviction that the decision is up to you to resolve¹.

  4. Psychological Perspective: Psychologists who take the free will view suggest that determinism removes freedom and dignity and devalues human behavior. By creating general laws of behavior, deterministic psychology underestimates the uniqueness of human beings and their freedom to choose their own destiny³.

  5. Humanist View: Humanist psychologists argue against the determinism view, claiming that humans have self-determination and free will and that behavior is not the result of any single cause⁵.

Therefore, while the properties of materials and technological development have made computers possible, the act of sitting at a computer and typing is not solely determined by these factors. It also involves the exercise of free will and individual choice.
