Phooey, I just tested disabling the Automatically play GIFs when Discord is focused. setting - it doesn't seem to disable profile photos from autoplaying. I am now (more) angry and disappointed at Discord's devteam.

EDIT: Enabling Reduced motion makes it so animated profile content doesn't play unless you hover your mouse over top of it, so that's good at least. Would be nice for them to explain this in the Settings UI though.
