Yeah, ideally what you would want to do is drill through the NAND chips, as they could theoretically be recovered.

Honestly I don't know how you would want to go about drilling a 2.5 ssd without opening the case, the boards can vary greatly in composition. Some 2.5 SSDs fill up the whole case, some fill a quarter of it.

Definitely easier to do a harddrive.

Yeah, I always think that's hilarious. It's like hard drives, some old operating systems only support hard drives that are so big, but nobody is making such small hard drives nowadays, lmao.

But at to the size of storage medium, it's funny to open a big case only to see such a small PCB, and it is wasteful, but there isn't too much we can do about it. Once you have a standard like an SD cards or 2.5in SSDs, you can't just constantly change it or it isn't a standard anymore. At least there is a benefit in the fact that manufacturers can do cool things or make really big drives by utilizing the previously unused space.

My understanding of TRIM was that it runs in the background to revert all bits of previously deleted files to neutral in order to speed up future writes, since otherwise as it's trying to write a new file over a previously deleted file's bits, it's gotta take the time to revert each bit back to neutral before saving a 1 or 0 thereto. When it doesn't have to take that time to do it, it's much faster overall. Am I thinking of a DIFFERENT function/term? I was pretty sure that was TRIM. 🤔

I've had issues with trying to do re-installs of OSs on my S.O. & my laptops so haven't been able to do what I want w/ our internal storage, & MY laptop has HALF its RAM soldered so to upgrade I had to find the correct kind that matched well w/ what was already soldered (which I think is STUPID)

you're going to have to look up benchmarks for the cpu

if you're new from vendor and they have a generous return policy I'd compare benchmarks between individual components, put together a sheet, weigh them best on what you think is best (easier because they have the same gpu(?), and just buy the one you think is best.

Personally I'd put more weight into upgradeability, since 16 gb doesnt cut it for me right now.

if its going to be a 5 year laptop you want 32.

KeePassXC is pretty nice for handling stuff like that. You can import from browser or other password managers and it keeps your sites in a list. Otherwise I'd look at haveibeenpwned. As far as the paid services go, I'm just worried a lot of the time that they dont really do anything at all, and with Aura I had a hard time canceling, it seemed like the page for it was broken and they wanted me to call to cancel instead, it ended up canceling anyway but I'm not sure I should be offering some of the data they ask for in the first place.
