You can watch build guides such as LTTs to get prepped. In terms of actual preparation I think checking the included items on what you bought to make sure you have everything you need is the biggest time save. For example, you bought a CPU cooler, does it come with thermal paste? If no (uncommon, but still) getting that now will save you having to stop the build until you get it. Same applies to accessories like SATA cables. If you're using any SATA drives you'll get power cables with you PSU but your motherboard may or may not include the data cables. Running through little things like that will make sure you have everything you need to complete your build when you get the parts.
