Do you also call Apple, Apple computers

Do you also call meta the company Facebook

hi
hi
hi
goodnight tho im going to sleep
hi
the url literally says twitter.com lmao
Did I dream a whole ltt video or did it get deleted after I fell back asleep this morning?
Shortcircuit it got privated after being uploaded
Glad I'm not crazy
After 7 years of daily use, my 1080 died today 😔
viking funeral
do the screwdrivers ever go on sale? I got one on release and my dog chewed on it now its covered in teeth marks so I wanna get a noctua one
I've never seen them go on sale, no
think they will ever make one with a rubber handle?
The megapro automotive screwdriver that the LTT's ratcheting and bit storage is based on has a rubberized handle
The only Screwdriver sale I think they've ever done was on the 26th of December, and that was only if you buy a normal and stubby screwdriver.
Hi there!
Rip
I'm sorry for your loss.
🥺
I wanna cry , went to I stal my new GPU , drained my loop new power supply and everything, then notice I can't find the silcon insert to bend the new pipes
hey is this worth trying?
they do also cover desktop pcs for $30 a year
You're scaring me
Omg
You’re still alive, sup
We used to talk last year in feb or smth 😂
Does anyone here know solidworks well? ( I need help with the hardware of it)
solidworks is a piece of software, it doesnt have hardware
.... I wouldn't use it.
I know @fossil frost, Im trying to build a PC parts list for my dad, but I am not knowledgeable in Solidworks. All I know is that It loves single core GPU performance
you know wrong
please inform me, I don't know anything about it then
pcpartspicker would be a start. Watch LTT clips how to build a PC.
depends what you are doing in solidworks, if you are just creating the models and not doing any high res rendering, CPU with many cores, and RAM is more important
if you are doing the hi res renders, and doing a lot of them... you need as much GPU beef as you can get
I don't think she wanna render a PC in SolidWorks (Her father is using it?)
That is solid advice, thank you
It is inanimate and has no preferences
For Solidworks and the programs you'll branch into from it, you'll want Intel + Nvidia, with high core counts / efficiency cores
you can also install the professional certified drivers for gaming gpus too (i do this on my work machine)
Thanks y'all so much 😭
🙏
This was my first list, but ima change to an intel CPU and Nvidia GPU https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/drivers/
oops
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 7700X
yeah, i run the studio ready drivers on my 3070ti laptop gpu
you need to select also a Graphic Card
The AIO puts in it's work so
thank you!
Intel is so good
Get a threadripper 💀
cant afford a threadripper 😭
Poor
:(
I’m joking lmao, they pricey
^^^ this was gonna be my next comment... depends on how complex what he is doing actually is
yeah, i dont know what he is doing in solidworks.
That's not the case, depending on what you're doing. The efficiency cores of the Intel CPUs are not to be laughed at
Yes, a threadripper will outperform them, but a basic gaming CPU from AMD will not
and... if hes using the machine for work... he really should be going for the 7950 or a threadripper, because spending the extra money now, saves LOADS of time and money in the long run
would the Nvidia 30 series work okay?
LS has a BASED position on housing
Everything is to be laughed at
His recent WAN show was a banger
Unless you're rendering in solidworks, the GPU doesn't matter much. The CPU controls how much it can handle.
you need at least a 4090
Nvidia consumer cpu when
4090 TI super
@warm shell Don't worry about this obvious troll attempt.
Thank you
"you dont get to line up to get seconds again until everyone has had their firsts" BASED LTT TECH TIPS
if you dont mind me asking, why should I buy an Nvidia vs AMD? i know that AMD is better for price to preformance
wait until the RTX 5090 releases

buy AMD if you have a budget and care about price to performance, but buy nvidia if you need features like RT, DLSS and FG
if you dont care about any of that just get AMD i have an RX 6800 and it runs great
buy Nvidia because they are the best
buy nvidia because you need features out of their selections not because you fanboy a company
Get an ARC
buy what makes most sense to you
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Nt376D RTX 4080
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, GeForce RTX 4080, NZXT H5 Flow ATX Mid Tower
He's not asking about gaming here. Nvidia is 100% the choice for GPU here.
I wanted a nvidia GPU until I won a amd GPU … now I’m team red 😭
ohhhh i see
depends... high res rendering, solidworks would use the nvidia gpu more so than the amd one... if hes just using it as a display output, get whatever is cheapest
yeah i retract my statement
He is using it for rendering
yeah nvidia is gonna do u good here
tysm
told you
i do like shadowplay thats one feature i miss
why u fanboy a company
ima try to find a higher end 30 series card
my statement still stands buy what makes most sense to you
yeah, its almost like its a feature that literally everyone else tried, did better... and set up as standalone apps
is 12 Gb Vram enough you think?
man you PC fanatics are passive aggressive af
"oh he's trolling"
is literally correct
depends how much rendering is being done, and how large the canvas is
A 4090 is not necessary for Solidworks, bud.
A 30 series will be just fine.
but is the best
never said you were trolling, but fanboying a company makes no sense
i dont think large simulations will be done at all
you are trolling, just because they chose nvidia, doesnt mean they chose the 4090 you recommended, because you are a fanboy
Not for him and his budget.
i like you again
You buy the hardware that is correct for you. Sometimes it's Intel, sometimes it's AMD, sometimes it's Nvidia.
truly based
Is a RTX 3060 12gb for 299 a good deal?
Now if you need Nvidia and somebody comes in screaming about how you never should buy from them and you have to have AMD, that's a fanboy.
then buy whatever fits your budget that is nvidia, because the nvidia features will be used better, and whatever you can afford, is the best one you can get
fanboying a company makes no sense and stifles competition imo
i looked at the 3080's and they are way too much lol
how muxh vram difference brtween 3060, and 3070, 12 vs 16 right?
You can try and find a used one. Or a used 1080Ti. Those are still very, very good.
Doesn’t really stifle competition but yeah it’s dumb
My dad wouldnt like used
That's sort of how the GPU market is right now, sorry.
Used PC components is not the same as used mattresses.
not really, not for about 6 months at least now, i do agree with your second point though
i know, he is a xoomer, and is very conventional
used PC stuff that is solid state (stuff that isnt spinny), either works, or it doesnt... there is no inbetween
Well, I meant more for them, since a new 3080 is outside of their price range...the only options are to drop lower, or buy used
I like to have a used mattress in my PC, that’s how windows goes to sleep
buy a brand new RTX 4090
ive found that the 2nd hand market isnt that much lower priced than the new market though, used market is lagging behind the retail price drops and discounts
Please be quite @lilac bear
Even if you make aggressive bids?
<@&750150305383186585> guy is just being a straight up troll now and trying to derail the conversation on purpose
Just block him
good idea
i bought an rx 6800 for tree fiddy
Hi, i'm new btw
And yes, i don't think i'd call it "fanboying", but people in general need to realize that there is not one company that has a "multipurpose-has-all-solutions" deal.
There's no single hardware that fits every build or purpose.
always bought used never had a problem
yeah, check ebay listings for stuff that has sold.. less than 10% away from new (on average)
Riverence has always been a troll apparently, one who even practically lives in this channel.
there's preferences and there's fanboying
two separate things
In this case, Nvidia is the right call, but not a 4090, especially since a 3080 is outside of the budget.
That's true. I'd call the latter something else, probably, but i know what you mean.
i used to use intel from the pentium 4 days until ryzen came out
how do you know unless you live in this channel too
Intel and Amd have good CPUs and GPUs and are good one stop shops
@late flax , can you help us with a troll?
got any suggestions?
I don't, but I've been told you do and I've seen you around enough to know without having to stick around long either to confirm that statement.
preference is "im gonna buy this because it suits my needs, and im willing to overlook a small thing because of all the major things that i like"... fanboyism is "im not buying anything other than nvidia because fuck amd and intel... " guy is doing #2
oh yes you've "been told"
maybe it's comfortability buying a brand
but not shoving it up the other person's ass either. "i like intel bc of my good experiences but i respect u using amd!"
I get I was wrong when I guessed the headphones were $400
but Bob was also wrong when he said 4 grand
and for some reason Bob was all focused on me being wrong
someone else also being wrong, doesnt make you less wrong
No, but it doesn’t make them right either
X.com goes to it
And then there's the other ones who get burned by one side, so badly they end up just arguing with people, attempting to get people to only get anything within a set criteria they've decided is best.
it doesn't make them right either too
never said it did, but you are using someone else being wrong, to justify your being wrong... rather than just accepting you were wrong and moving on from it
Also very true. I, for example, use Linux as my daily drive OS and for me, AMD is the better fix. But only for this "edge case", because i'd have less compatibility problems caused by the proprietary drivers.
A friend of mine, especially on a budget, has more use for a 3060 TI, because he wouldn't even use 100% of a 40xx Nvidia.
And since the 4060 TI doesn't improve that much over the 3060 TI, it wouldn't make sense for him to spend that money on that. He's upgrading from a 1070, so the 3060 alone will be a huge improvement compared to his gaming experience now.
"fuck nvidia"
Tbf, bob makes it very hard to move on even if you admit your wrong
I admitted I was wrong but Bob kept going on about it
how's gaming on leenux for you
"are you sure you were wrong"
Yeah, but my next PC will be Windows again.
Linux is very very finnicky and at times frustrating and tricky to maneuvre around incompatibility problems from games.
Everytime i install a game, i first have to check on protonDB, if there are known problems, possible fixes, or tinker myself. And... i love convenience. So installing a game, clicking "play" and it just starts... and works... that's more convenient for me
but im so noob at it
2024 is the year of the Linux desktop
i play fortnite so off the table
wow fortnite
i use cloud services so
see that might work
i guess it doesnt make any diff
I'd still use Linux for work any time, but gaming is just more convenient on Win
imma confess im just afraid to install stuff on that mf
now you need a manual the size of the holy bible in order to learn linux
it takes COMMANDS
"GetCurrentYear() is the year of the Linux desktop" - always
Depends on the distro, Ubuntu is basically windows at this point but without widespread driver support
you can use it on a bootable iso, all of their installation mediums have live variants
not really, you need eyes, and hands, and an internet connection
Yes, that was indeed the meme
Wondered what was happening on paypal at mightnight and its floatplane
i could use an external hard drive
then you'll get flamed by a neckbeard for using debian based OS instead of arch
Arch or bust
And you give a shit about what other people say?
apparently
i personally dont but some people might
Ubuntu is fine... people dislike it for the same reason people dislike anything that is popular... they dislike it because its popular, and because people are dicks
I hardly play online titles and the only one that might work properly I believe is just Minecraft I guess.
steam deck is a good way forward for linux gaming
I dislike it cause it’s just a worse windows, if your using it, your probably just better off using windows
Steamdeck is good incentive to make gaming more accessible on Linux, but thats about it
been co-oping with my 11yo this evening.. for some reason, solo, either of us can get 15+ kills and come 1st - 3rd every match... duo's... cant get better than 25th.. 😒
Yeah, even gave a reason for Chimera OS to exist for anyone else and even made hardware makers like Aya Neo decide to make their own distro for their products too.
I wish the legion go used steamOS
whats ur loadout usually consist of. use snipers, they EAT this szn
i dual boot windows and kali linux on my laptop... mostly because i like booting into kali and sniffing wifi hotspots when im sat in coffee shops and breaking the passwords of people hotspots 😄
In fact, I'm actually surprised that Chimera is apparently an independent distro, not based on anything else kinda like Solus is.
AR for mid/long range, auto shotgun for up close... SMG as a backup close range but also for mid-close
why, and whats the difference between ubuntu and other distros
same with gentoo, its its own thing
Since we know Steam OS was based on Arch and older builds on Debian, which is interesting because Chimera and Steam OS 3 are quite similar.
nothing, its identical, except for that it has its own slightly different window manager configuration by default that you can change to be like any other distro
Ubuntu is just a plug and play version that anyone and everyone can use. It’s specifically designed to be similar to windows.
frenzy and smg both seem kinda redundant in my eyes, my brother and i have a system where i usually snipe and he sneaks around to do poke damage close range
Well it's also treated as a major branch other distros build off of, like Chrome OS.
so whats wrong with that
but whatever works for u guys
for us, its more to do with that he just doesnt get that we are a team and we both need to perform different roles, and he wants to just play like he plays solo
In fact, the major branches are apparently: Debian, Slackware, Fedora, Gentoo, Arch, Mandriva, Arch, SUSE, and (debatably) Android.
Why not just use windows at that point? I never said I judge others for using it, I just said I didn’t like the distro cause I would rather use windows
hahahaha that explains it
i just cant see what kind of utility linux has that differs from windows, as a noob question
isnt ubuntu considered its own major now? since there are so many sub branches of it? and its so far removed from debian now
Apparently not for whatever reason.
i only see linux useful for work related purposes if u wanna go into IT or sysadmin work
and manage linux servers
learning terminal is good for that sorta thing
i code sometimes
As a general day to day user, specifically a gamer, it offers no upsides to you. But in a professional setting it does have its upsides because it’s missing limitations that are on windows machines
dont come to missouri bc my work uses windows server instead of linux lolz
They just count it as a major spin from an older branch, rather than marking it as it's own thing.
i see
i build SaaS software for a living, i use windows to build it, and linux to host it... because linux hosting is much cheaper than windows hosting 😁
All our servers are windows just cause they’re easy for the end user to manager if they need to
slide advice for a brother stuck in java tutorials brah
so Linux is skill issue
I use Linux Mint, which visually is literally a Windows copy. But still, some games work OTB thanks to Steam Proton, some games have to run through Wine (Lutris is my best friend for many things), but sometimes there's just no fix.
I've had Unity-Games, that just work with no extra steps, i've had Unity-Games, that for some seemingly arbitrary reason don't want to run at all, no matter what.
This sounds like copium ngl
if linux fixes anti cheat stuff that could be a game changer
You can literally do anything.
Personally for me it makes building from source easier, ROCm is only supported on Linux and makes running cuda accelerated tasks on a AMD gpu much easier, and in general has tools I prefer like btop and the KDE suite that either run terribly on windows or not at all
be born in 1985, grow up just playing around with stuff at the beginnings of all this stuff.. and then get a job in this when jobs are just starting to be prominent for this sort of thing 😄
i guess im late
just take the initiative and build your own shiz
It’s up to developers to enable support for it in easy anti cheat. It’s literally a toggle they can change at build time. We’ve given them everything
I mess around mostly with different distros for the hell of it, mostly desktop-oriented ones.
I've gotten to try Mint and so far, while it's nice, I ended up instead coming to like others such as Zorin, LXLE, and Solus more.
im gonna go into AI soon
Who would want to go to Alabama?
hehe
otherwise... "just play around"... find stuff that interests you, try and relate it up to writing code... ie.. because i was bored.. i just wrote a small cmd app that stress tests your cpu for testing stable OCs... because i was trying to OC my CPU more
ya tutorials are tedious and bore you. i mess in powershell for work and i learn by doing
they help but shouldnt be your only source of learning
Spend 3 years memorizing a textbook
similar to math, calculus and algebra are learned best by practicing problems instead of spamming theory
I spam theories all the time and it works
The only reason I know how to compute cubic splines and Gaussian distributions is because of weird side projects I had in programming
I think, if i had more experience on Linux and knew a bit more about how to circumvent certain issues, gaming would be basically no different compared to Windows, for me.
I mean... Star Citizen for example didn't run on my system when i was still using Windows. One example is... since my Linux switch, Star Citizen runs like a breeze. Less free CPU capacity was my problem in Windows, because of so many things, Windows does that hog processing power.
But yeah... if i knew more, i'd have less problems. But i just started working in a computer store, so time will tell. Lots of possibilities for me to learn more.
The utility is stability (especially if you have to build stuff), security (which you can easily manage yourself thoroughly), and control (you decide what's in the OS that you do and don't want).
Basically, it's more power to the user than something mainstream like Windows or Mac.
I wanted, even applied for a job to work at a local computer store. At least I'm in their catalog of potential interviewees, but it's more than likely gonna be a long while before I ever get a message back from them I'm sure.
I'm from Germany, but lemme search what my job would be called in english, since... IT translations of job descriptions are weird at times...
Yeah, star citizen is a great game to base this off of :p
Well known for being a finished, well polished game

I heard wild stories already
they break easily
My dream job is cable managing a server rack
we had tf2 sfm edits, rick roll and ytps
brain rot is always around
Charlie the unicorn was NOT brain rot it was art and I will fight
I know sarcasm when i see it. But in terms of how well my CPU performs, it was at least something to go by.
It’s just definitely the best possible game to test a system with
It’s reliably stable
😭 wild
I wish you all the luck that you get a job in that field! It's really fun.
I've not yet had a day where i thought "I'm going to work today"
I honestly can't tell if you're fricking with me or being honest
It’s the perfectly game and it’s reputation is just that , truly the crisis of its time
i work for IT at a university it's great
what do you mean by "building stuff"
If your an architect and have to use autocad
Programming and application development.
so people use linux for those?
interesting, i only knew abt cybersec hacking etc stuff
Someone ping me when wan show starts
Interestingly enough a lot of games get developed using Linux, and even more interesting... a lot of those games are not optimized to be played on Linux
It's one of the better ways to do it from what I've learned from all the talks about why Linux is so useful. Programming is often stated and understood to be the best choice for using a Linux distro for such, especially when it comes to testing too because debugging, troubleshooting, and other tasks have less going on in between other than what you know is meant to be happening when running those loads, compiling code, and so on.
The amount of control you have over your OS basically allows you to more easily track what happens, how something is behaving, and why.
Marketshare challenges, yeah.
does the code change between OS?
Yeah, which is sad but understandable.
is programming any different when it comes to the code itself, that's the question
There are fixes for the marketshare problem of Linux... like Torvalds said... if stores would sell PC's with Linux pre-installed, it would become more common. But obviously, that's not gonna happen any time soon.
(And for obvious reasons too)
Nope. Virtually portable every time, unless you were developing from a system on another processor arch, like if you're porting to a regular x86 system from an ARM or POWER one.
Though it also depends on the programming language too and a lot of the ones like Java, Python, Lua, Ruby and such are easily portable without much fuss.
That wouldn’t fix anything, people would just learn how to install windows or only buy windows machines, it might increase it by a little bit but take a look at the market share of windows vs Mac’s
Well, that's also debatable too, especially with Java, but that's just how Java is really. Lol.
It would at least get Linux into the heads of more people. Bringing it to mind even.
Most people i interact with day by day don't even know Linux exists, which is sad. Most wouldn't even be able to use it since it's not as easy and consumer friendly as Windows. It's gotten better, no doubt, but ... still not on par with the big M.
Yeah, most people will see a system running Linux, potentially get it, mess around with it (or try to) and then... Get intimidated or come to want off of it, then try to figure out how to install Windows to get rid of the distro installed.
Most people know macOS exist but choose to stay with windows
I mean, that was even me years ago too with a handmedown laptop with Fedora 6 installed on it.
People want the path of least resistance, and Linux may be user friendly but the drivers aren’t. Windows is the king of widespread support and until that changes, the market won’t
I got quickly intimidated by it and went out of my way to get XP SP3 on it as soon as possible.
Yeah, that's where we're back at the start.
Dependent on usability. - If i don't need Mac, and don't know it, i'm gonna stay with Windows. That's just how it is.
And Linux will be no different
Considering macOS is basically just user friendly Linux
Or BSD really anyway.
Exactly, why would i try to learn a OS, when i can have it easier. Totally understandable.
And that's most people, yeah.
The main reason I haven’t switched to Linux is lack of 3rd party support, especially for gaming
For me, I switched back because the original reason for the switch stopped making sense once I realized my oversight.
I only switched, because i got really angry with Microsoft for how bad their support was for a problem they created.
But that's a longer story.
In short, i switched to Linux out of spite and learned to love it.
If it weren't for the gaming part, which sadly still is a hit and miss depending on the game.
At least for the games i play.
But long term, i'll probably end up with a dual boot system.
I’m so fuckint tired of s0 sleep on my laptop and that’s my only real issue with windows
Windows for gaming convenience, but Linux for all the other things.
s0 sleep was hibernation but with fast start up function right?
So basically, not "really" standby or off.
I don’t know but it doesn’t fucking work properly and I’m tired of my laptop not booting correctly
The way I understand it is sleep but with networking enabled so that windows can still update, but it causes so many issues on wake up
That's sad.
And normally it can be disabled in bios, but I have a legion, which locks their bios behind stupid fucking developer key binds for some reason
I suck at time conversion, and rarely catch it live, but isnt wan show supposed to be now?
But imma head to bed now. Looking forward to more tech talks and learning more in general on this server! Gnight everyone.
When has WAN ever been on time?
Also, #the-wan-show
Ive heard about the meme, i didnt know it had roots in reality
Oh yeah, that's really stupid!
I usually ignore the start time cause it’s never not late
That kinda sucks, ive already stayed up two hours longer than i planned to catch it for once 😅
Welp, theyre probably not that late
Yeah, that’s a heavy dosage of copium
Roots? It's seriously never even remotely on time.
In what channel can I discuss processor branch predicition?
Why not here
Thanks
Patent complaint against A7 chip
Is there a reason both Intel and Apple copied this specific branch predictor? Is there anything special about it that makes it so good?
kk i realised that and deleted my message
Something popped in my tiny brain ya know Nvidia Intel and amd
They're like ya know the RGB thing cause

Why are there so many Wizards of Oz in that message?
hi!
can someone help me decide on a good laptop for college my budget is between 1000-1500cad but preferably closer to 1000cad
moved from ddwrt to opnsense on a custom machine
mostly up and running but still need to get my port forwarding/VPN going
prob spend more time looking into it tomorrow but im too tired to understand where im going wrong rn lol
what were the issues with Asus that made LTT drop them as a sponsor? I remember hearing something about them overvolting AMD CPUs but nothing else
I just noticed that I've had this server muted for 2 whole years 😂
Their customer service sucks apparently
just joined boutta do the same LOL
I do that to all servers except role and direct pings
Just noticed that I didn't removed the plastic thing in my cooler for the cpu it's been there since 2018 😂
Should I remove the thing or leave it there since I'm applying new thermal paste and cleaning my pc
Y'all what do you put if you don't know if your teacher is a Ms, Miss or Mrs
I got no clue for any of my teachers 💀
I think most of them are either a Ms or Mrs
dang, guess you hate us
To whomever it may concern
Just put mr
I wish that would work in more situations but considering I've had this teacher for the past two years 💀
Dear lecturer,
The year is 2024 and I hope you would forgive me for not asking about your pronouns earlier, even though I've been under your care for two years. Would you so kindly grace us with your reply?
Love,
Maccas Worker
... Do you mean the honorific?

Also the email was about asking for resources 💀
Since I'm doing something for school, which that teacher is running, at the start of term 1.
And she hasn't posted the stuff I need to make sure I know what I need to remember when I'm helping out the year 7s 🫠
"I would like to further add that I would like to request for additional resources that a project of mine would require."
Y'know, my friends find it weird I prefer Japanese to English (as in systems and that), but when it comes to referring to teachers 🔥🔥🔥 that's easy
Anyways I'ma go, need to pack for a trip tomorrow.
Well my PC didn't have a trouble for the past few years soo i think it'll be cool to leave it there

Ah, I love pissing my friend off. He doesn't like it when I just randomly speak in Japanese, so I do it.
He just said he isn't going to respond to my messages in Japanese tho 😔
So I responded with 「なに」("Nani", or "what" in english in case the mods needed a translation)

my mom wants a new laptop. She only does light tasks like emails and websurfing. She is not very good with computers. She saw the Acer aspire 5 with Ryzen 5 5500U / 1tb ssd / 16gb ddr4 ssd. I am sure this computer is powerful enough for her needs but I am worried about built quality. The screen is pretty much subpar with only 50% srgb coverage but then again, she won't be doing photo editing or anything like this. She is also on a budget and won't spend CAD$1000 + tax on a laptop.
I'd take a look at refurb dells on Amazon
you should be able to find something for close to half that
yh an asus vivobook is abou 250 CAD and could easily handle that
hi!
hi Natan
Good day all, new here 😎 .
Hi
Got my self a new cable Ethernet
CAT 7 I doubt that it's real since it's only 3 bucks

Well, it stood still for many to be applying such questive. Do a research for windows computers, actually you might state it Forward to be a linux.
ok but what brand do you think is friendly/compatible with linux i heard lenovo have good linux support,is it true?
Well, it's a nostugal computer, might be behaving right?
I see chipi chipi
Well from your current situation about anything would be better
Lenovo is good as long as it isn't one of their gaming laptops

poor pc @ 82c
That's not bad
I accidentally went on my bios and it said my cpu core temperature is 25 degrees, should I be concerned
That's idle temp 25f would be -3c which would be inaccurate, so your definitely seeing 25c degrees at which case that's great idle temperature.
concerning is when idle is 80c and up
nah its full bore compiling software

Why was the newest short circuit privated?
quick question, does anyone know if there is a digital calender sort of an old clock with many 7 segment displays or with a screen that you can mannage like a digital photoframe
i dont know how that'd be set up
just 31 days and it swaps numbers at the beginning of the month because 31/30/28?
you could do a custom project with a whiteboard, cut out holes for the displays
this got interesting quick
it shows the month with week numbers and can be moved between months via eiter a button to move between months or something
i know the touch screens and i got a 3d printer so i could try to make something that does it but im not any good with programming, i just want something that functions slightly like ones of those small fold over calanders but that doesn't ever need to be replaced
18
just something like this but digitaly/ semi digitaly due to how the week numbers change as well as the days on the dates
yeah you'd want a whiteboard calendar and cut out a little corner in the top right to fit the displays
no because id never write in it, i just would want to not pay attention to it and it do that itself
doing it on a whiteboard would take effort afteral
i guess i have no clue what you want then
you wouldnt have to change the date numbers with my idea, i figured that's what you wanted
what's the point of a calendar project if you arent gonna use the calendar for events/meetings/activities/planning
bread
bread
Pizza
for work, i need to know the week numbers, as im an administrative worker for a company that produces electric harnasses for planes, and i work in the training departments, so i have to know the dates for there trainings to be planned in which is all done by the week number but sometimes it is not, so we constantly have to check it, but after we moved we no longer have the space for a large calander, and i don't wanna have to get a new small one every year to have the dates of the day themselfs worked out
seven segment displays arent exactly small
well, they can be, the ubiquitous ones arent
i know, thats why i said screen or 7 segment, more a question if it existed or something of the sort at least
i mean
if you search electronic calendar you get this many results in that many seconds
bet there's a few in there
i could, but the question being here will tell me oh these are really good, and these are ok there cheap, where as google might just be a heap of shit for the first 20 pages
given nobody responded but me and i thought you wanted to actually do a fun diy project
i dont think the question being here didnt do what you wanted
check reviews online :)
im into the diy project, but it would be a touchscreen with a program id have to have some help with in a 3d printed frame
also all the ones ive been able to find are in the 699~4000 euro range
It's pronounced cwa-SAW

🥲 bought a nvme ssd only to realize i misplaced my motherboard box so i dont have the screws anymore
i probably do
wait your ssd didn't include one?
i dont really recommend it
cause if it falls out it can short
but
it's an option if you're nuts
drives never do
both of the ones i bought had a screw in there box
that's rare
you lucked out
yeah mine didnt
no drive ive ever bought or otherwise unpackaged had one, and i build computers for everyone i know
i found an old hard drive that had a screw i thought would fit
i mean so do i so idk
still too big
but the crucial and the samsung ssd's i have had em
mine doesnt have one too as far as i can see
good buys on deals so i always nab em for friends and family
i got mine via amazon so idk
it was in the same plastic box, it did hide in it so i nearly missed it but they deffinitly did
this one and a 980 from samsung
i have a 980 too
also a 1tb one?
yes
huh, might be due to local differences, as im in the eu legal zone, and they like to make demands
i also am
strange
i mean i also assume youre dutch seeing your name
then again i got the drive nearly a full year ago so that may also be it
i am matter of fact
i got it in germany
if i didnt have my windows install on the other nvme drive i wouldve just swapped it out but yeah cant really do that 💀
these are cheap so its an option if you can't find it
those tiny pack-in drivers will break if you apply any real force lmao
there on that prime shipping they come next day
but yeah the tape is probably not a good idea
its good in a pinch
i know, ive bought a lot of replacement batteries for phones and they come with those for whatever reason
mass produced landfill
doesn't your motherboard have those cooler plate things you cover em with?
not every motherboard has those
its a pretty cheap motherboard
nah they make good punches after they dull
and even more rarely do they have them for all m.2 slots
i have a b550 F from asus also a cheap as board, and its got those covers for both nvme's
this is an asrock something something idk
anecdotal evidence nice nice
heck i don't even have on board wifi anymore like my last motherboard
My father told me some of those were used as shank
its right there just teasing me
if you can palm em without them sliping thrue your hands sure, they are tiny, but they work great to get a starter hole for your screws
eh just plug it in lose and clone the drive over then replace it
250 gb is nothing
im using every bit of storage i can
that was the plan until i get some expendable money again for a 2tb one
its because im a cheapskate resourceful
that crucial p3 2tb is as much as a 1 tb 980.. and the p4 is about the same price as a 980 for the same size, but often on sale to be cheaper
i mean im dutch so being a cheapscate is in my dna, and considering this pc i got now is the first with an nvme in it, my last one was a 5th gen intel extreem board, and i had a sata ssd in it despite the nvme slot, but why not a backup hard drive, i have a 2tb and a 3tb and the 2 tb is about 50 bucks and the 3 tb isn't sold anymore but was 100 at the time i got it when a 256 sata ssd still cost 120 bucks
why not just something like that
ill see what comes up when i have the spare change
hell yeah 💀👍
nice
its in but its like slightly too long
it has a bit of wobble left and right up and down does that matter?
probably like less than millimeter of play
it can be an issue if it gets out or if your going to replace it with the propper screw and find out the thing striped the motherboard, but othere then that it should be fine
i have been looking for a bit now, and its all just way to expencive or not at all what im looking for, i did find that there is software that sort of does what im looking for with the dakboard or that mango display stuff, but neither have made sense for what im looking for if im going to diy it as they need a raspberry pi at a bare minimum and id get a smaller microcontroler thats far cheaper if im gonna diy it
Alright I found out why my gpu fans ramp up to 4000rpm and temp to 106.5C

crusty ass thermal paste
i just sanded it down and its snug now
i expected this to be a 5 minute endeavor not a 45 minute shitfest
december 1st
nevermind the dakboard os is something i can download without having to be subscribed
or is american tech also labeled with CE?
and the pi zero is actualy able to run it, it was the orange setup one that required better hardware
eu it was already mentioned
altho some stuff exported to the US can be labled with the CE if it has met the certification proces and they simply do not have multiple production lines
used shortlinusdotcom to customize my christmas present
huh?
Does anyone recommends a good headset that dont use that standard cloth in the earpads? that simulates a kinda of leather... I have a serious problem with sweat and that thing end up destroying itself in a couple weeks, the thing becomes disgusting
Dt880 idk
i think that would make things worse, but thanks!
so just been watching recent WAN show and they say its bad to store your 2FA in your password manager
but why though? id say its better. because for my google authenticator app. that needs no password to login to it so if someone gets into my phone they can get my 2FA code with no password
but if instead i store the 2FA code in bitwarden they would need my master password aswell
keep in mine the code is the exact same for google authenticator or if in bitwarden. just bitwarden is behind another password
there are quite a few that 3e parties make replacements for that are a different kind of fabric with a cool gel in it, try looking for one you like in terms of comfort that is in there librairy of parts
I've been using those since 6 month or so I think and they great
i have 2 factor on my bitwarden account. so they would first need my phone aswell to even log into bitwarden
didn't knew that... but problably there aren't any for my country
lol, ironic for a secretlab ad to be under a post dropping secretlab as a sponsor 💀
https://linustechtips.com/topic/1551224-weekly-sponsor-concerns-update-jan-05-2024/
Hey all! Happy new year. We’re back at it with a couple long awaited follow ups. ASUS I know you have all been waiting for more information regarding the influx of ASUS complaints we’ve seen over the past half year or so. When we last posted an update a few of us had a sit down with our ASUS cont...
How do I use cura on this printer? I've selected Ender 3 and now it creates a garbled mess unless it's sliced with the one Creality gives
world wide shipping
its a thing
never found gaming chairs to make any sense tbh
been using a $80 costco office mesh chair and it's so much more comfortable and ergonomic than anything I've tried from secretlabs or anything else lol
I’ve never tried them. Most people don’t like em tho
They’re not that comfortable apparently
gaming chairs are much more style points than comfort points
Pretty much anything that say gaming on it is like that
on god
using chairs modeled after racing car chairs meant to keep u in place while racing cars who would have thought
When I was looking for parts I’d always type in like “gaming motherboard” or “gaming ram” 💀💀
I didn’t know lmaoo
because it's tied to a lot of things, not just hardware IDs
lol how many times has ram gone bad for u for no god damn reason
literally never
Now it's valid on 2 desktops tho
Anywho should I buy another stick or new set
Or should I take off the heatspreader to fix a potential short
How many sticks do you have right now?
2
DDR4 or DDR5
8x2 ddr4
As long as you buy the exact same kit
My pc didnt even support it at max speed lol
Intel 10th gen doesnt like >2666mhz
Ok
Ima try to open the IHS
for why
Unless its a 10900K ( which I still wouldn’t recommend opening the ihs if it was ) there is literally no point
Maybe I should just go to the micron building down the road lmao
Just walk up and say "fix my ram pls"
Wonder if it'll work
Lol
You live in Boise?
(not the micron factory just the IHS removal)
hi!
hello, ben
Now that’s a first. No one has ever called me ben before lol
hey
Hi!
hi
I have returned
Dis u Elijah?
yes lmao
Knew it
welp, my ender 3 fucking broke, never buying from creality ever again
i have the ender pro 4 was a bith to setup but works great
Hey it's the guy who exclusively talks in gifs, and has a strange addiction to screens!
Rip, I have the ender 3 v3se
I wanna install custom firmware but im too lazy to manually level it
not my addiction work addiction
mine did the auto home thing but didn't stop when it hit the button on the z axis
it stopped the first time, and the second time it just kept going and going then ripped itself apart and bent the 2020 rod on the top
Sure what ever you say 😉
wasted money and hardware because of some cheap software
big oof
I've tried using kipper before but I fucked up my first bed with levelling so I don't bother with custom firmware anymore
I would buy a knockoff BLTouch but thanks to Creality I give up on 3D printing
I'm going to make sure they refund my grandparents and we're NOT going to send it back to them, they don't deserve it
knockoff bltouch's are shit, and my ender3 prints perfectly.. setting it up is quite simple, and it not working is 100% a skill issue
That's not even funny right now
hm?
No, it's not. It was built perfectly according to their instructions, and then it unalived itself because of the cheap software they put on the thing
so true (mine still prints like ass)
everytime I see 3d print discussion I always got reminded that I want to do custom artisan keycaps
but dk where to begin
"cheap software", you mean marlin? the industry standard 3d printing firmware? the firmware you can EASILY update?
not with anything from creality
Get a 3d printer
yeah but what kind
custom keycaps == resin printing, not FDM
FDM filament printing will be utter shite for keycaps
then why did the second z axis check fail and destroy my printer, huh?
it wasn't a hardware issue, the connection points were there after the fact
i dont know? did you fasten the z limit switch down properly? did you have a bltouch? if so, did you have a cheapo one or a real one?
the firmware is literally marlin. marlin is what ALL 3D printers run other than klipper, and klipper is quite rare yet
fastened properly at the height of my bed, no bltouch
Don’t forget about Snapmaker
then why did i, who has never used a 3D printer before, have my ender 3, up and running within the same morning that i got it? and still works now, just fine, years later
after 1000s of prints...
Snapmaker isn’t as simple, but it’s not terrible
people expect a TOOL to work like a TOY, and have a bad time
I've used multiple different printers from different mfgs because of school, but they were calibrated perfectly. I got the Ender 3 because it was relatively affordable and heard great things about it, and now I regret it
the people who cant work a 3D printer and blame the printer are the same people who would blame a mill for cutting their arm off when they left their arm in front of the tool
I don’t think it’s officially listed but I think it can do it
Just like how the artisan can’t officially CNC aluminum even though people have done it
The bambu lab printers are amazing value for money tbh
I dropped 5k on a printer and idk how to even 3d model 🫠
You've clearly not heard of how much of a lottery Creality printers are.
Could be fine, could destroy itself lol
i have 2, both rock solid, installed 5 at my kids school... all rock solid... maybe im just lucky?
Yeah, you are lucky lol
or, maybe i treated them like, set them up like, and told everyone they are... a tool... not a toy to play with... you have to treat them with respect... and use them in the same way you would any potentially dangerous tool... with care... and watch what you are doing...
people treat them like toys because they are cheap, and they are not toys. people who shouldnt be buying industrial tools, are buying them as toys, and are crying that they dont work how they expect them to work, rather than actually learning how the tool works
"everyone that's had issues is invalid because I've had no issues"
Im a snapmaker owner since 1 and just bought my 2nd artisan. I'd say it's a dice roll. You need to know what ur doing, I have a crap ton of mods n it's the best 3dp ever. Stock that thing is a peice of fucking dumpster shit
no, im saying a lot of the issues are down to that.. not all, i agree that some people will have issues because of the lack of QA at creality... but a LOT of the issue is down to them being cheap and people buying them as toys to just fuck around with
Slow af too
I've got one of the ones that destroyed itself
first printer too, which sucks
just 3D print the new parts
can't do that if the printer don't print
We actually had that happen too. Got a creality at school ~6 years ago, the hotend broke after one print.... Getting them to replace it took forever, so ~5 years ago they finallt sent a replacement.... Not a hotend, the whole damn printer, a newer model, and on it's calibration it ignored the limit switch, crashed hard into the bed, breaking the glass and denting the bed, they refused to replace it
Sounds like they dun fucked up then decided "lets do it again".
Ok, who got banned?
me sry
?
Well someone pinged me and now the message is gone and all their other messages are gone too it seems
also bye asus and secret labs as sponsors.
What happened to them?
to paraphase from the forum post, with asus it's to do with their products and customer support. "we will not be taking money or product from them in exchange for anything we produce until we see follow through on improving their products and customer support. " for secret labs it's mainly customer support using questionable language and they wouldn't be working with secret labs until there is much needed improvement.
more detail
Ah, I wasn’t sure what happened
Hey all! Happy new year. We’re back at it with a couple long awaited follow ups. ASUS I know you have all been waiting for more information regarding the influx of ASUS complaints we’ve seen over the past half year or so. So they have bad customer support then
Fair
Kinda surprising seeing as secret lab is so expensive
they are
even in the uk
far better off buying a ergonomic office chair plus it will be cheaper
True
and i say this as someone who owns a secret labs chair.
oh yea FR my dad gas bought a few gaming chairs not from secretlabs but between him and I they have not lasted at all. Ended up going the ergo office chair route 2 years ago.
plus they will last
mesh ergo office chairs are the best and im not sure why people buy "gaming" chairs
Gaming chairs are always gimmick.
i love my secret labs chair but i can't recommend them to people, does that make sense
no
i can't recommend them to people because of the pricing plus they are far better options for cheaper like ergo office chairs.
Funny thing is when one of the locations closed at the company my moms works for as IT, one of the VPs had a really expensive ergo chair I was able to grab for free albeit it had problems with the armrest but I have that chair as a second one
lol ye
plus if you can find deals.
used about to be thrown out at my moms work is deals for me if I find any use of it.
though I have been able to snag pretty good stuff
Been looking for laptops anyone have experience with flowx13 4070 spec from asus rog? I'm a student who does lot of cad and light rendering
2.8 pound and 16mm with r9 and 4070 though at 60w still really powerful
The other competitor is sls2 2in1 is required
@full fossil hi
on a plus I was able to grab one of these. Hp 800 G6. Using it for a server atm barely sips power
hi
So buy a desktop computer. How do you expect to run a 4090 in a laptop. Or get a macos
We start off green in here
Oh we don't
Why the fuck is there a slow mode
It's not 4090 is 4070 and thr cooling looks pretty good. Not mention that 16:10 smegzy screen
And there's no orangutan on life support emote
<@&750150305383186585>s can we fix that please
hi
Can I plug in my power button cable while my pc is on?
i'd turn it off
Well I can’t
psu power button?
There is no display and power button isn’t plugged in
Would that mess it up?
never
at least bring vaseline
eyo?
lolol
but Vaseline is sticky
wd40 works better for chains
assuming you want petroleum in ur lube
If only they made live specifically for chains
Would upgrading from a 3060 ti to a non super 4070 be a decent upgrade for 1440p gaming if I can find a good deal on it
@wispy marsh HELLU! HELLU!

You're everywhere, you can befriend HardwareBob
Indeed I am
Anywas HAIIIII
HALOOOOOO :D
Hey (^w^)/
Ooooooookayy
sup gamer
Soup 😋
bad idea
no
Don't upgrade on a +1 generation scheme
Upgrade on 2 - 3
Found CAT gib cat noodle
Feed nood;e
Jokes on you I upgraded from 1660 super to 3070 to 3080ti
That's actually what I said
Don't upgrade from 2000 to 3000. Upgrade from 2000 to 4000 or 5000 instead.
This shit is not apple where you can trade in your phone.
1660 is 20 series gen, and the 30 series are.... Both 30 series.
Idk 1660 is shit anyways
:D
1660 is practically a honorary 20 series gen.
Start of 2020 when I built the PC, it was $420 AUD for my 1660 super.
It's more on the performance per dollar of an upgrade.
I mean sure, gaming is a luxury but it does not mean that we have endless pile of gold laying somewhere.
I also bought a gtx1080 but replaced it with a 6600XT
Since when gaming is a luxury? Games these days can be run inside a phone
Hobby is not a luxury.
Back then, gaming is like a luxury because you need to build a huge PC that would run crysis 1 at 25 fps. Now we have phones that can ru literal CoD. Even a shitty $200 phone can run CoD smoothly
So it's not a luxury anymore. It becomes accessible, just like flights.
Luxury is doing a lot of heavy lifting here 🙂
If I want luxury I just went to Rolex AD.
I hsve one near my campus
Oksy that's what I wanted to hear.
But remember the saying "just because you can it does not mean you should"?
Users needs to know that if their upgrade is worth it for them. Sure it is a luxury but if I'm paying $750 for a 5% improvements I would get mad too.
Not including the fact that it could create a domino effect.
Change of GPU and later PSU, motherboard and CPU, then case.
and a fire extinguisher if you bought 4090
Damn.... looks tasty.
But hwy, who am I to judge? Just saying.
cat or the noodle cause if the cat i agree tasty meat bun
I refuse to elaborate.
🥳🎉
Yo! Finally made it to the LTT Discord server! Glad to be here.
a bit of malleting later my ender 3 is fixed and i think i became a genious - i used a very VERY smooth glass marble for bed leveling
oh what i never realized that the 1660 was turing instead of pascal
Anyone here have experience with an Asus router an OpenVPN? I have an eror
Error: OpenVPN needs a gateway parameter for a --route option and no default was specified by either --route-gateway or --ifconfig options
yeah it was absolutely insane naming convention, but it was because "omg rtx"
maybe... tell us what you're trying to do and how and put the config up somewhere and google the problem
Setting up a VPN to a new office network
OpenVPN connect but the above error occurs
I think it has something to do with static routes
or lack there of at the moment
Ok, and now once more with actual details?
both my home network and remote network at 192.168.x.x networks
let me try a static route here
ipconfig shows it has a default gateway
so i'm condused on the OpenVPN log
except that is the gateway for the VPN. You've defined a route in the VPN config, but not given it an explicit gateway
hm static route did not help resolve the bug
are you trying to route between two subnets? There's a specific guide which covers that
defined on the server, but the confirg is pretty bare bones
float
nobind
proto tcp-client
dev tap
Windows needs the TAP-Win32 adapter name
from the Network Connections panel
if you have more than one. On XP SP2,
you may need to disable the firewall
for the TAP adapter.
;dev-node MyTap
sndbuf 0
rcvbuf 0
keepalive 10 30
for OpenVPN 2.4 or older
comp-lzo yes
for OpenVPN 2.4 or newer
;compress lzo
auth-user-pass
client
auth SHA1
cipher AES-128-CBC
remote-cert-tls server
<ca>
ok maybe put that into pastebin?
because it was commented with a # that makes it a a header in markdown
yes, but the client also gets pushed config from the server
I have broken openvpn in many ways 🙂
Update the server is not giving out an IP or default Gateway in the config
so its a server issue...
well, it's a lack of config issue - the server EITHER needs to give it OR the client needs to have it in the config.
so can I specify it on th Asus Router?
or do I have to manually edit each and every config file
cause that wouldn't be fun
hi
I'm not familiar with asus/openvpn, I have rolled my own only
You should be able to specifiy the route, and then an IP pool and push it from the router
hey gamer
no way lmg staff
