Agencies do their own monitoring of misinformation networks, accounts that are clearly fake or pumping up a key slogan, hashtag or talking point. Those agencies contacted social media networks when they found a large amount of inauthentic accounts pumping specific talking points or phrases, those social media platforms moderated it differently. Facebook deprioritized (and often) banned those terms/phrases. Twitter deprioritized and flagged those accounts, and Google flagged specific domains/websites/accounts.

Unfortunately, a lot of authentic accounts (As Russia intel calls them: Useful idiots) repeat these talking points, or modify them, which is then used for legitimacy and amplification, those legitimate accounts sometimes got hit too.
