ddr4 will be "fine" but not "optimal"... 12/13/14th gen were designed with a certain memory spec in mind, but will work a certain percentage up or down from that, but not optimally... DDR4 was left in as part of the "down" to make the barrier to entry quite a bit lower for people. it "works" but isnt the correct pairing for a x900 class intel cpu

its the same thing as asking if a rx580 is the right pairing for a 14900k... in a way... yes.. its fine, it will give you a display output, but its not optimal, depending on what you are doing...
