Curious for the iPhone folks...I've noticed that every native app Apple makes for the phone has alternatives, like Google Maps for Maps or various notepad softwares like Evernote instead of the iPhone Notes app.

I've also noticed that those apps are extremely gimped compared to their versions on Android...is this something all the developers decided to do together, or is this an Apple thing?

Best examples are social media apps and games. People spend more money on apples app store than Google play so devs target apple for features/quality first.

google also does recognition on your photos on the server side so you can tell who is in them, search, etc. That is impossible with user side encryption
