About 30 mins ago I got a call from the Peoples Party of Canada telling me to stop vocalizing my criticism of their political platform. And if I continue to do so, serious action will be taken. The scary thing in that the only time I've ever said anything like this was in private DMs with trusted IRL friends or on a school project on google docs where I voiced serious disapproval of the PPC's politcal platform. They used my full legal name and date of birth in the phone call, including my middle name which only family members know. I would like to know how they got my info or if this had happened to anyone else.

# manic moon but i never said anything publicly

Ah well therein lies the big problem we have irl actually. Public platform just means the equivalent of somewhere you're expressing one way or another like a public building. Or street. Any gov property you're legally allowed to be on.

#

If it's not public (in other words property of some individual or business -- private property) all it can really mean is they have the right to kick you off.

manic moon
steep girder
#

Which btw doesnt mean they get the right to silence anything protected as free speech. It just means that they have the right to kick you out if they don't like it.

#

It's actually really important and even social media services have legal distinction between public platform and not. It's some title I forget which. So depends on where you got the DM irl I don't know 🤷‍♂️

steep girder
#

Well I mean politics aside, if you live in some place where your tax money gets spent on a digital service like FB... picture what a bummer it would be if you got kicked off for exercizing your right to free speech... because it's a public service... that you paid for... which claimed it was privately owned as soon as it was time to kick somebody off who broke absolutely no laws

lilac bear
#

steep girder
#

But yeah btw to reconcile with the whole somebody demanding you to stop expressing something in DM: if youtube was a public platform, it shouldn't be legal to be removed or censored in any way (not even throttled) for talking about that normal function everybody does since the dawn of time... just because it is expressed with that one certain word.

#

Because if I were to go out in public and announce that I just took the steamiest monster of a sh-- to everybody.. free speech. It is sadly protected under that as well kekw

steep girder
# wind pulsar So Dimmskii is crying about something again?

No. I'm answering tech question. Basically to paraphrase:
How can you prevent other future occurrences of DM sent by political party asking to stop posting negative opinion about them?

You can't. Idk maybe best place to start is report them somewhere to gov maybe it's already breaking some law. But I doubt it unless they take physical actions or threaten to take those actions which will in any way impede your ability to post.

Best tech answer:

  • Maybe theres a way to block them from inbox. Many social sites have that feature
  • Don't read anything else they send
  • Delete their messages
  • Delete your own account (which in turn also prevents them from sending message)
#

Many ways tbh. A bunch of them are guaranteed to be doable. Like see if you can copy/paste confirmation field for password. Literally mash your palm on keys until you get valid password. Then copy/paste into confirm box. Now you can't log into your own account. Boom. No more PMs.

wind pulsar
steep girder
#

Define 'hacking'

#

You already implied that they broke into something and got unintended access to stuff. If it's the government irl, they never do anything that looks like hacking at all. They just simply ask your telecom or cell provider nicely to hand it over. That can be legal or not. It's surveillance. Usually a warrant is required of some sorts.

#

If you use end-to-end encryption that's decent, nobody has a practical way of finding out contents of messages except you and whoever is on the other end. So I'd worry about whether or not that other party is trustworthy enough

Answer: Section 1417(a)(3) of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) prohibits the sale of solder and flux that is not lead-free unless the solder or flux bears a prominent label stating that it is illegal to use the solder or flux in the installation or repair of any plumbing providing water for human consumption

#

its not illegal, it just has to have a warning label and can't be used for plumbing

steep girder
#

But again you need minimally ram enough for both win nt and linux kernel. Idk maybe somebody knows if it's possible to fit just cache instructions for OS and never have to load anything from ram again. Then the cached instructions use swap partition for the rest.

In theory, yeah I 100% introduced lead into by body which I probably have a significant portion of to this day. But what significance it carries? Idk.

I'm still eating a pack of smoked fish I bought to go along with the beer. Might be by the time I finish eating that, I'd have introduced more mercury into my brain than all the lead I'd ever gotten to this day from each instance I soldered combined lol

If you're soldering regularly as hobby or profession for many hours a few days every week, yeah I'd ventilate at least. If it's a one time thing, don't worry about it. Just don't breathe in the fume trail directly. Like don't position your face in that one way where it's a direct hit lmfao

But still you can also get rid of flux from the equation. Like if you're able to get it done right without using flux and it's relatively practical... don't use it. Boom. No more lead or flux fume.

I soldered components and wires n crap into pre-printed boards. Just dab some solder on the contact, maybe some on the wire and then put a reasonable sized blob once you fit it inside. Rinse and repeat. I rarely used flux for that.

I would stay away from it at all costs kekw

Do like I did when I was a kid with a soldering pen. Go outside.

Tbh they probably don't sell anything in those tiny bottles as end user soldering flux. Maybe some industrial sht in process that's 100% machine on assembly line.

steep girder

I look down and im touching other wrist with it like long-wise. Literally stood there for a good time burning off my skin w it and didnt even feel it lmfao. Frank castle was right in the punisher it taught me. Really hot metal singes off nerve endings before you can even feel it kekw

empty pollen
#

Ive grabbed the wrong end a time or two.

steep girder
#

(Then it hurt really bad minutes later and entire epidermis at least of skin peeled off; I had given myself second degree burn because darwin)

empty pollen
#

Just so focused looking through a scope or at the part. Trace repair will drive you crazy.

vapid smelt
#

did you hold it like this?

steep girder
#

Well actually the other thing he did in the punisher was just that. He put like bacon on pan or something and touched a popscicle to his back lmfao. You actually sense the same thing when ice or scalding hot metal makes contact w skin

#

It's an actual real fact. What you felt was extreme temperature for a bit I guess. Means it wasn't hot enough. Mine I didn't feel absolutely any sensation. Literally didn't realize I was touching my arm w it until I looked haha. That must mean it was hotter probably. Again, it killed everything that skin senses burns with immediately.

empty pollen
# vapid smelt did you hold it like this?

Ha, no, was holding it correctly and my brain, being very smart said I need finer control so attempted to guide the tip with my other hand. In reality I should have just eaten a banana with breakfast.

steep girder
#

Honestly if dad didn't point it out or also didn't see, I probably would have held it until it burned all skin until it was 3rd degree.

empty pollen
steep girder
#

I think it goes second degree is entire epidermis, third degree is you burn through all skin and start to char everything underneath it. Third degree I remember somebody saying is when things like fat starts to boil n sht. I would have probably felt it shortly but maybe possible even I'd burn like my fat. Honestly I had little to no fat there back then.

empty pollen
#

Third the nerves are pretty much gone.

#

So ofen not a lot of pain for a bit.

steep girder
#

I think muscle pretty much immediately because it just so happened to cover that part of arm lol. If not, I'd be already into the main blood vessels of arm and tendons, bones, etc.

empty pollen
#

Also shock is a thing.

steep girder
empty pollen
#

I think it depends on a lot of things, like often someone will touch something and get burned and say that it did not feel any different at first. Almost cool, previously every time you touched it your brain made a bookmark and almost played that back for you because you knew what to expect.

The human brain is pretty crazy.

steep girder
#

You have sensation beneath skin but yeah it's nothing like hot/ice or touch/tickle whatever. Like arthritis pain idk. I know how that wrist pain feels like you get from guitar hand and mouse (I get best of both worlds exact same thing on both wrists lol). Left hand cubital tunnel people get because fret board (if right handed) and right hand most people use mouse with. Pretty sure both of them cause cubital tunnel lol. Not sure about carpal tunnel but it's on the opposite side where thumbs are

empty pollen
#

If you see yourself doing it and observe the thing happening typically you feel it but seeing someone lean on something without knowing it and they sit there for wayyy longer than you would think it takes to feel it.

steep girder
#

Honestly have no problems with thumbs. It's the pinky side that kinda gets contorted and I have those bumps which hurt. But my point being is that I'm somehow sensing pain in there. It's not the skin

steep girder
#

But if you ask a person to stand behind you with soldering iron and ice cube and try to guess which one it is, literally can't tell apart first few seconds at least. The soldering iron I mean you'll smell burning quickly and it will go away. You'll know once you stop sensing it ironically kekw

#

But evolution-wise, it makes sense. By design, your skin feels only extreme temperatures both ways because it's bad. If you have something cold enough, it's not different from a hot burn at a certain point.

#

I mean skin dies, you get blister, etc, etc. Legit it's a burn as far as your skin is concerned, no?

empty pollen
#

Yeah, you climb the same metal ladder every day, always cool to the touch. Without any other changes your brain has nothing else to predict from. Now if the normally grey/metal ladder is glowing orange/red you would have a clue things have changed.

steep girder
#

Honestly I hate the idea of space travel because virtually the entirety of our universe outside the Earth... it's basically 0 deg K to us (might as well be) and perfect vacuum (also as it relates to us, there's nothing significant about the tiny pressures or differences between interstellar space, intergalactic, etc)

lilac bear
steep girder
#

Pressure I'm thinking about it and it's actually very similar and perhaps all the ways to temperature for us and the rest of biology we have. But it's more problematic because A) as it relates to this same stuff we're talking about with animals that have spine and brain inside skin seem to have evolved a long time ago just receptors for physical temp, etc sent to brain over nerve... pressure has little to none of that adaptation whatsoever.

#

Like I wouldn't be surprised if some or a good portion of animals have some very accute specialized sensations of pressure like our skin does temps... and I'd look at aquatic animals or those high atmosphere amoeba-like things we have apparently. Amoeba isn't spined and I'm not sure if it's even an animal but if it's basically a balloon that floats in high atmosphere as giant cell... yeah I wouldn't be surprised that as soon as you get something eukaryotic the cell has something that deals with pressures exclusively.

teal estuary
steep girder
#

Idk maybe like animal cell but it spends energy uniquely on growing cell walll so that it inflates while still osmosising the same exact crap it did before. Now it might float higher into atm or just hit terminal velocity sooner. Idk pressure matters. But even then, you never really see as far as I know things that really physically deal with pressure to extents like jump out of boiling pot. Frogs don't do it but most things that look like animal with head and limbs tend to have some uncontrollable motion. Either kicking and flailing in panic and it's no use or if Darwin approves more of its evolution, that reflex has very solid track record of vacating death temperature immediately... at least quick enough to live on and minimally fulfil lifely duty to make otherlife.

neon mesa

steep girder

Pressure nothing really seems to react. You have like deep sea giant squid washing up because maybe it ended up unintentionally close to surface. You can have animals that go too deep and die because it's too much pressure. We're land animals which can have uniquely low tolerance to even just changes no matter how benign the pressure is. Makes sense because we're not even meant for ocean

teal estuary
#

regular

teal estuary
#

we have an FX888 soldering iron, so, any of them like that

#

i think its an FX888 at least

steep girder
#

Like 100ft no problem if you breathe as you ascend/descend. Ears will pop n crap but eventually youll equalize. Depending on how fast you go between 100ft below sea level and back up it will feel like airplane or less... or worse.

Then you have the problem of lungs popping if you breath air which compresses 100ft. It's enough air 0m sea level to be way past what is needed to pop lungs.

neon mesa
#

Despite the apparent low temperature
If we somehow get stuck there we won't actually freeze
There's no air to take heat away so you're stuck with radiation as a way to cool off
And then there's the sun

#

So half your body will be burning
The other half slowly radiating heat

steep girder
#

But still you can survive this just fine. So long as you find air on same depth 100ft and breathe it out fast enough as it expands when you swim back up. The thing I always heard was in situations like that, you must scream ahh with your mouth as open as possible as loudly as you can. Basically try to breathe out as much air as you can as quickly as possible

teal estuary
#

space is a horrid way to die, do not die in space

neon mesa
#

I don't know, better than burning

#

Or drowning

teal estuary
#

probably the only thing worse is an AM tower

#

liable to be conceous for longer with that one

steep girder
#

But after that, you need like 1 day maybe or more in chamber pronto. Becaues then the bends will set in. 100ft idk but I remember half an hour just before 100ft. Even 80 or maybe 70.... yeah divers I seen ascend for like another half hour taking stops every 5 ft or some sht for a bunch of minutes. They wear watch that usually just tells you if you're good to ascend

#

So you need barometrics unless you're fine with bubbles in blood that literally kill your tissue. Slow and painful death. I remember it's always said basically yeah you might get out pretty unscathed but as soon as divers emerge from some accident, if they're completely fine in every other dept... it's bad. Like helicopter lift asap to barocamera bad. Then you get compressed to wherever you ascended too quickly from and slowly decompressed back to atmosphere pressure. Atmosphere pressure means whichever pressure is outside too. So high altitude city in Andes or some sht... huge difference.

#

Apparently you can also get sick if you fly within one day or something. You're perfectly fine as diver and everybody doesn't feel any problems with ascending on airplane. But diver taking off on plane ascends quickly enough to somehow still get sick. So they wait lol. But just goes to show we cannot deal with pressure for sht; we clearly don't have any acute sense of measuring pressure through specialized intended by evolution features and this makes perfect sense given the prior problem. We literally don't need true senses for pressure because it won't be of use

#

So space: if it were 0K but the pressure was like literally all land animals adapted to today... you'd maybe have a few seconds or so to react to it. Perhaps you can step quickly into a place with normal temps. Honestly, you've managed to get to basically near 0K place from somewhere. Probably nearby. Irl, it's often times grave scenario though because ejected into space unshielded means you didn't plan on it. Probably don't have thrusters either. Literally all of our intended ways to move around don't work in 0G and essentially 0 solid/liquid/gas to touch against.

#

But pressure-wise, it's crazy. Even crazy depths where we actually can't withstand pressures way past 100ft deep... you have aquatic life that stays in those depths. You never see it unless you visit its domain. If it washes up in ours at some beach... it's always dead.

manic torrent
#

Just the tip?

steep girder
#

So yeah 0bars 0K. It's never physically possible to have true vacuum or temperature but to us, it might as well be. Literally no difference. As soon as we go into space and probably virtually every other species since the start of life on Earth, we likely die immediately from the exact same thing. Instantly ripped apart in insanely low pressure and quickly frozen. I remember a video referred to it as instantly becoming freeze-dried snack.

manic torrent
#

I'm literally wearing a mask right now

steep girder
#

For us, there are gnarly things like the moisture in our bodies is too pressurized on its own regardless. So the moisture ends up ripping out of your body through everything and you get tissue damage like that

#

Cells idk but I don't think walls are closed anymore. Probably popcorn-shaped all of them. Viruses idk but they can only reproduce with host cell. With no access to our only known suitable planet where surface has gas above it with just pressure matching ours (not even considering the composition)... viruses end up being somehow more dead than they were kekw

manic torrent
#

Just watch avenue 5 when people put themselves put the airlock. Perfect demonstration

steep girder
#

Like viruses are only technically considered non-living. That's what dead means whenever you might hear the word as a descriptor for virus in biological context. It's not living because it can't do all of the things required to be by definition living in actual biology terms. But if we died, I just kind of thought about it... funny how viruses can still go extinct just like living things... in the exact same way. On top of that, you have absolutely certain causes for it like the one I mentioned. So if life on Earth goes extinct, we're 100% certain that all viruses will be eradicated too. Even Covid.

#

Idk we shouldnt consider space as backup plan to justify crapping up the earth

#

Or shtting it up because honestly I use the word as like causing nuclear winter or anything but the forbidden definition. Because 0 life on earth even adapted any real functionality or sense related to extreme pressure.

#

We still haven't found a single planet with pressures that don't make Matt Damon or Arnie's eyes pop out of socket. Composition would be maybe an even more farfetched odds stacked on top of it. Before even looking at atmospheres on planets, we literally have not a single one likely within less than 15 light years or something in terms of interstellar travel. The closest system you might get there by the time you're teenager I remember... but it shouldn't have any planets at all. If it does (I wouldn't bee too shocked), they are likely one or two gas giants as always

#

If they were anything even solid, we'd probably see news article on national news every channel. Because you found a planet that is possible to colonize within lifetime range away from us.

Space-X I'm not sure but Mars is insane. It could be because of similar circumstances as Earth, sure, but even the inner solar system might be actually miracle already. I'm not sure how practical it is to nuke Mars until it can sustain our plants to get oxygen in there... but then we're in the same position as right now. Earth and Mars we lived on. If we nuke them both at once, that leaves basically all moons and planets we can possibly have any ability to colonize. After that, space. Hundreds of years of space.

My point is life doesn't exist physically. One half of it does. The other half is subjective to us. On the other hand, ours is believed to be limited by physics as a whole. Because we observe information as an arrangement of pretty much just chemical structures. The most 'atomic' thing we consider to be arranged (which in physics does have a real causality relationship with an arrow that ends up generally being consistent with time itself)... it's atoms in the science meaning of the word.

So funny enough, in tech, programmers have this concept called 'atomic'. Something can be called atomic in a context where you have compositions of data from an immutable actual singular value. Physically, our digital machines themselves end at bits. So irl you always consider an atom at the end of it in all digital computing.

I.e. primitive in Java is considered atomic should be. There are implementations and classes writtin considered which are officially documented using that descriptor. The point of interest is that classes you write can be atomic or not with respect to threads. If you're using a thread safe implementation of some (ultimately real) list, queue, map, blah often times wrapped around an additional layer of same interface... you're always expecting ELEMENTS to be ATOMIC within any COLLECTIONS. Shouldn't just be collections but more general linked lists or whatever.

# fierce moth How the fuck does this relate to what I said

It matters because colonizing other planets ends with not being able to get to other planets. It's the equiv of us going extinct on Earth. Same exact crap different smell. The resource is space where we can survive by any means anywhere in the universe and be able to carry on. No matter how harsh. Some places, again, apart from being insanely harsh like most of our universe beyond just our Solar System... we literally have a great deal which *is physically impossible^ to colonize without some access to energy I guess in the right forms. For instance, if you're in ship, you have fuel. That ship can be either headed for survivable scenario or every single living thing on board dies. If you run out of fuel, better hope you'll get the first scenario.

fierce moth

But the second scenario irl is the only one realistically you can expect just by sheer random luck. So once fuel runs out, you physically don't have access to anything that can even accelerate you to any course for a survivable scenario. That's kind of like what interstellar travel is. Life on Earth is only on Earth because it started there. After that, space age is actually inevitable already. At least alternatives to everything the Sun brings for us.

steep girder

And that's at light speed which is not possible to reach truly. Idk how close you can get to 100% without having some weird crap happen to you. But still it means generations irl. Many generations of humans. We can only do that cryo freezing thing or put a stop to aging to get around it

As for why anybody with half a brain would want a super car, I mean I don't see why not. The only thing is yeah if you're an enthusiast you'd actually be less likely to buy ANY car retail I feel like. Buying something that's impressively priced few can get retail vs decent price will always mean that the crazier money spent in addition (a lot of which disappears as soon as you drive off parking lot lol)... it's just money spent for no reason. It's a flex. It can only be used to show people that:

  • I can afford to flex on your 2018 bugatti with my 2024 one so I will
  • I have no clue about cars

Meanwhile, true Prius strat is 2 year leases apparenty and you trade it in for newest Prius at the end of each term. I heard that's actually more worth it in the end

You can buy a car for cash up front used that's actually 'cool' in the way some people thing the prius is the opposite of that. So you get your audi s4 2016 for 20k or some sht. If you're lucky you can even get it certified without pumping another 5 into it because something is broken idk. Then within like 2 years your insurance might already be like 10x what you spent leasing priuses kekw

Well I'm not trying to mansplain it. More like peoplesplain. Body hair is a human thing. Both men and women have armpit, leg, arm hair. Idk men kinda tend to have more and additional places like chest. But it's crazy how it's expected of people to shave literally their whole body just because of their bio gender. Then vast majority actually does it to feel it decent enough to show in public now...

spice pine

im not reading all that

full fossil

Then it became a trend somehow and i gotta be honest it looks good. Most men say nowadays they prefer no hair. It's a fact. Not saying anything opinion-wise. Draw your own conclusions.

I seriously don't believe that you're the first person to just use mansplaining let alone coin it and be the reason why everybody ended up saying it today.

I remember shtposting on facepunch a long time ago in the troll days. One time I specifically remember just needing to get my post count up so I posted in this thread where it was still possible not to get banned for it:

I mean I don't care if somebody recycles jokes. I usually just call it re-telling lol. I mean if you retold a bad joke, could indicated you have bad sense of humor. People retelling good jokes idk but I find they're usually funnier. Bad joke idk but Elon musk seems like the kind of guy to have weird humor. It's ok though he started tesla and now I see 9.969 in 10 electric cars on road his brand first. The others are catching up slowly now

But talk about bad jokes. The internet meme is the worst specimen. It's actually been described as reflexive humor or something along those lines. Same thing as inside jokes being brought up and only people that were there laugh. If you think about memes.... literally same thing most of the time.
