@pearl dawn if you are looking for backup services, I throw my recommendation for Backblaze into the ring - they are incredibly cheap and awesome, and they are one of the few services I know of which have the feature to get yourself a physical drive sent to you or send one in, which is super useful for large amounts of data. They've got apps for everything, are S3 compatible, and very easy to use, plus you can also set it up with versioning and do rolling backups of stuff.

If you are looking for the cheapest possible storage, iDrive is the cheapest that I'm aware of. There's some other ones out there too which use interesting storage solutions like Chia/Siacoin for storage, I know 1fichier the direct downloading service has very cheap storage offers that I've used in the past which were just fine, I wouldn't use it for my personal important stuff though. Backblaze is encrypted.

nothing, especially if it's going to be something you're hosting at home. servers make sense in data centers due to the form factor, having higher grade hardware that can be running 24/7 for years on end - they're designed differently for things like heat, and usually have processors optimized to running the kinds of tasks webservers do. only issue to having your server at home, assuming you're making it web-facing, is ensuring it's properly secured.

been in hospital with my kids a couple of times recently, and been in hospital myself with 2 broken thumbs (my own fault) and seen nothing like that at all, even though my local NHS trust is under a "urgent action needed" banner.. and, as i said, they have ruined it more in some places more than others, in some places, its fine... but, i would like to ask if YOU, YOU PERSONALLY, have seen people lying down in corridors, or have you seen the same archive footage from the same hospital, that gets played over and over again? not saying that the NHS isnt getting fucked, but i am saying that its being overhyped
