1. My point was I have a budget where I can just buy an ssd, and the price difference between hdd and ssd is minimal when compared to the rest of my setup, so it makes sense to pay that extra for more read/write speed.
2. In this case mechanical storage would not suffice. Take some games I play, phasmaphobia. One of my friends plays on a hdd, we all load in, and have to wait in the van for about 10-15 seconds for them to load. In siege it can take up to 30 seconds for someone with a hard drive for everyone to load into the round.

I've had only one my entire life and it was honestly because I gave it hella shock myself. Like rage and kick computer multiple times while it was on. I had a brief period in time when I did it regularly and within a few weeks, surely enough, download would CRC checksum error on writing giant files. The hdd was scratched.

Even if HDD like has full mechanical failure or the controllers burn out on the board idk... if you really need the data, you can still recover it. All of it is often still inside undamaged. SSDs, on the other hand, not sure but I think more along the lines of zip zorp zap and it's gone lol.

the thing is though... it almost is better in every use case. The balance has shifted, because the lifetimes for SSDs are up, prices are down, and hard drives have a fundamental cost for parts you can't get away from.

Honestly but the whole thing with SD slot on phone is you don't have much internal storage so you get like 512GB now or some sht with microsd. But newer phones idk the internal storage I think is way better than sd cards. It should be faster wear out less. Just for my use case, ssd makes more sense. Advantages of hdd have no real impact on my use case. I keep a copy of photos on an external ssd, my personal pc, and a hdd on my old pc that I gave to my parents , so I don't need hdd in my personal rig for longevity

Internal storage literally useless if the phone screen breaks until you fix it. On android at least unless you set up default transfer files + trust pc if needed. If it's encrypted, that's the only way too. Actually never tried but now I'm thinking twrp I could somehow get adb enabled without using screen or seeing whats going on
