My issue with a hybrid car is I like to use Uber as a cost analysis because that is the absolute extreme as far as mileage per year.

What I actually found is that even with something like a RAV4 prime the cost per mile is higher than an EV or a gasoline vehicle because you are taking the MPG penalty of the weight of the plug-in hybrid all the time.

Then if you do an actual total cost analysis based on recommended maintenance schedules calling around finding out costs and everything like that (this project literally took me 3 days)

What you find is that the plug in hybrid is still subject to the same maintenance schedule as gasoline car because it tends to expire on time but you also paid a premium up front for the EV battery pack

additionally you're not getting the near, but not actually ZERO because EVs do require oil changes, maintenance savings of an EV.

The issue is full EV's are then further of a premium on top of the plug-in hybrid.

I'm actually really excited for the Toyota Prius prime.
-0 to 60 and 6.6 seconds makes it adequate for use in the desert Southwest.
-It's a light enough weight platform at only 3,800 lb (light for a modern car)
-it finally has a chassis that's capable of going around corners without terminal understeer
-it is a little bit pricey but Prius is have always been pricey relative to their competition of a normal ice vehicle

However.
Because the design focused on efficiency I could see this being a really good stepping stone for somebody that wants to think about EV but doesn't have the money to spend upfront on an EV

Only to find out 30 days later that it doesn't actually work for their needs but then they dont have the ability to sell it because they owe more than it than it's worth.

I was shocked at hell well the Toyota Camry hybrid drove. Still doesn't really have an actual character or a soul to it

But it had amazing efficiency, it had good enough turn in. It would trail break and lightly rotate in a non scary way (classic Toyota)

It was efficient enough, though I would have liked EV mode to go over 25 mph because there's no reason at 26 mi an hour to suddenly need the gasoline engine on.

I took it down my most brutal mountain road and went downhill accelerating out of corners, about the most abusive thing you can do to a vehicle, and will show every single engineering flaw.

The Camry passed a flying colors and even though I could smell the brakes unlike most vehicles it didn't start to smoke and fade.

The vehicle didn't limp or show any other signs of distress at the end of this brutal 9/10th run.
