The british educational pipeline is essentially a one way system. It would be fairly hard to double back when I'm 18 because I don't have the right A-levels and if I don't have the right A-levels it means I don't have the right GSCE's. And because you start studying for GSCE's 2 years in advance and pick your subjects then you effectively have to decide what you want to do around 14 years of age. Maybe they are needed for your use-case, but not for everyone. Its down to personal preference. I use homebrew because its an easy way to install development dependencies for my job, not because its needed (and with things such as Docker its getting less required these days I guess). Window snapping isn't anything I've ever wanted or felt I needed so I can't comment on that, but that just links back to my earlier point. Different things meet different people's requirements. There's no one-size-fits-all solution
