brisk tundra

By default, there is only one option for install path of all games which is inside steamapps directory wherever steam itself was put

ive had this computer for 2 years and im still dumb

#

when i download things it justs keeps pausing it

steep girder
#

Ok so every game install, you should get choice in combo box. Drop down. I think it always for me defaults to last one I selected per the steam install

steep girder
# sharp elm when i download things it justs keeps pausing it

Is the pausing one a hard drive by chance? :V
If it says downloading but internet usage drops to 0 periodically, thats normal for hdd and fast internet. It's extracting and writing back the files it downloaded by disk too slow. Nowadays they finally added the message tbh. Patching, etc. Not downloading all the time

sharp elm
steep girder
#

If it pauses the downloads completely (and says queued and whatnot afterwards again), it should happen if you start another download. It doesn't do two at once. Another way I know this happens is a game is running as far as Steam thinks and your downloads settings have allow while game running unticked

steep girder
sharp elm
#

ooooh bc i was playing valorant while downloading is that why it didnt work?

steep girder
#

But yeah bad idea I remember. USB drives in general with Steam I think cause issues. If it pauses randomly idk. Steam should indicate some interesting stuff. Honestly, Steam aught to be aware of usb drive not oblivious. Or handle removed/changed drive letters. It has settings stored per the library from the looks of it

sharp elm
#

ok thank you if it downloads this and im able to play it ill tell you but thanks for your help

steep girder

Yes but only until the usb port is unplugged remember that.

Question:
Did GN comment about reaching out to LTT for an official answer on the questions they have? As a journalism channel, they should have

steep girder
#

Because the only way that happens is if you pay for views and then extra for ratings... only they have option of both ratings and they picked dislike for some reason kekw

From personal experience, I didn't even see an option like that. Would be kind of a troll. Today's times, might as well do that because comments ratio even YouTube shadow bans the video beyond event horizon. You'll never see it again which means you'll never get real comments and views again. If you try paying for comments a second time, now you have magical first half views flood in that look like bots. Then some period of time passes and your video got another flood of views all interacting this time.

YouTube: Hmm... what should I decide about 100k views 15k comments for video that we banned from showing up in any relevant feed...

Modders honestly have it easy compared to the actual dev team. They’re working on a layer ABOVE the dev team, just editing and adding code. Mods almost never feel as clean or the same as Minecraft vanilla, because they’re on the surface layer

Biomes are just meta they generate as zones at the beginning. A lot of it is just rendering effects to make water look more swampy, etc. Nether isn't a big problem actually because it's a giant cave and walled off usually. The real problem is overworld where if you want to ever get rid of draw distance online, you'd have to pre-generate lod terrain surfaces. The blocks change so I guess the more indepth lods have to also be update once a while.

This is the only thing you can send to clients at a certain distance because the only alternative is those same millions of blocks per player lmao

Which might be in quadrillions at this point. But you only need surface of the terrain. Even then, at that point you've probably too many blocks just on the surface. Plus the server needs to figure out with tests or somehow keep track of this hull crap. Might as well just pre-render distant terrain.

Linux is awesome in servers SO LONG AS you know what you actually need

steep girder

Honestly nixes can be strange to the point where even I don't know exactly what I want lol. Like on ubuntu desktops:

  • Comes with service enabled that automounts all volumes incl ntfs into /media/user/
  • I disable it because I pretty much never want all volumes from second (Windows NT) OS mounted ever. Least of all the system partition
  • At times, I want my NTFS access to like media volume to be RO. If I can live without writing to it from Linux dual boot, I consider it. Something about the idea of two OSes writing into NTFS partition. Meh

I typically put Linux on my older machines to inject new life into them. It's funny seeing the difference between Windows 7 and EndeavourOS shutting down. Windows had to tuck all the processes into bed.

steep girder
#

Honestly I think it's also possible to edit some config in that Ubuntu service for usbs only, etc etc. Read only idk how that would work short of specifying exact volume. At that point, it's the same thing as fstab. If I want usb automount w that service, I'd have to exclude it or internal drives I think was possible. Too lazy to find out and learn how to use that config lmfao

#

I think the real root of the problem might be that I'm scared to write to my NTFS volume with media archived from Linux kekw

hidden geyser
#

No shit sherlock

steep girder

Especially the newer the Windows 10, 11, 69 that formatted. Honestly I have no clue about anything to do with compatibility and new versions of NTFS. Alls I know is Linux driver is unofficial and likely behind as always. Arch idk but it's even worse because they just wrote it lol

granite tinsel

The original Macintosh User Interface Guidelines defined a set of keyboard shortcuts that would remain consistent across application programs. This could result in user errors if one program used ⌘+D to mean Delete while another used it to Duplicate an item.

also it's harder to even do shortcuts now i have a 60% keyboard

granite tinsel

Ctrl+B for bolding, Ctrl+I for italicizing, Ctrl+U for underlining, Ctrl+O for opening, Ctrl+P for printing, Ctrl+A for selecting all, Ctrl+S for saving, Ctrl+F for finding, Ctrl+Z for undoing, Ctrl+X for cutting, Ctrl+C for copying, Ctrl+V for pasting, and Ctrl+N for making a new document

rough socket

you have the ability to change what the function keys do in macOS system settings tho, per keyboard, without actually rebinding the keys themselves

Best is when home, end, pup and pdn are missing and you gotta do Fn+arrow keys. Literally cripples those keys. It's not standard enough to get used to (I actually gave that notebook back). It's legit faster for me to just ctrl + hold left for home or right for end.

rough socket

You can rebind everything, you can create custom shortcuts and behavior, you can even launch full scripts and actions with a keybind etc

standard mac keyboards have a fourth key which is often just labelled with a 🌐 but is more often just called "function"; it is the equivalent of an Fn key in windows in that it can be used to switch between the function row shortcuts and the actual function keys, but it also does things like switch keyboard languages and is used in a few keyboard shortcuts, like Fn+Left is Home while Fn+Right is End

In a company of 100+ people stupid things like that can happen, especially if the CEO is busy doing everything else than leading the company

#

I found the video much worse than the fact they auctioned it off by mistake tbh

#

I saw it when it came out and it left a bad impression then

misty plover

The whole auction thing is awfull but tbh

Its the least concerning part of the video

I think people are being very harsh, i actually think steve at GN was very unfair, they saw an opportunity to publicly make LMG look bad, when he could of contacted LMG directly if they had issues. LTT has put out great content over the last 10 years and this wont affect me watching their content, as i watch for the overall impression and fun element of the content. GN do raise some points, but Linus has acknowledged this in the forum post, Labs is young and will learn by its mistakes and grow. i just don't think all this drama and shit posting is helping the situation, underneath the videos and the company are humans that are probably feeling very shit right now.

He just seems like a business man doin business for now, no?

Eh people make mistakes its not like LTT left that stuff in they did update with the correction even if its text. Plus I think no publication should be a one stop shop. If you are actually in the market for the products reviewed you should really be looking at multiple sources for information

People keep saying “address privately”. You’re missing the point! People are being mislead about products and brand reputations are being hurt by oversights. You don’t only go to the source and say stop. You inform the people who have been mislead of what has been happening.

This is not untrue, but then again with 120 people and a multimillion dollar labs you can have experts

Not being an expert is okay, doing what they do isn't

# humble sigil If his journalistic integrity isn’t worth $500, he can’t complain about the comm...

in my opinion the real issue is his argument about it not being worth. That would rule out huge chunk of parts/videos he makes. Like i hope he will not use one of those $800-$1.8k ROG boards instead of a $200-$350 common motherboard; Or that he will start using the base 4090's which sell for 1720 euros instead of let's say the ROG model which is 2120 euros even now. It is similar logic to his "an 800 euro GPU block is not worth it" - maybe to him not, but a niche product has it's niche customer base. Just look at all the $300+ ITX cases

grim ether

that was just an example. What i pointed out that there are 20-30% price differences in "same product" in GPU market, there are 5x or more price differences in motherboard market - his reasoning for why he didn't retest the copper block would rule out pretty much any big brand model from his tests/reviews
