The core problem with RGB is that manufacturers have DELIBERATELY obfuscated how easy and cheap it is, because it's easy to make money when you pretend that your supercolorchromargbeeeeeeeeeee is the best and you need to buy special controllers.

You should be able to buy an ARGB hub and set of cables that would cover every scenario for any reasonable person for $50-80 USD and be able to address potentially thousands of LEDS.

(and that's allowing for sensible retail overheads, I'm not being a tightass)

and while I'm on my soapbox, I'm speaking from direct experience of building lots of RGB 🙂

I just spent 3 hours replacing a fan in my mom's laptop, a Pavilion dv7-6000 series. Had to fully disassemble the thing, remove the motherboard and all just to replace the fan. Put it all back together, had extra screws for some reason, I must have missed some, then I plug it in and test it. It powers on, but there is no display output. I must have missed or incorrectly connected the ribbon cable... unless I managed to break the cable. Failing a repair is so massively demoralizing. I'm taking the first half of the A+ exam this month! How am I going to pass if I can't even fix a simple laptop? This sucks man. Is it normal to fuck up repairs like this? Or am I not cut out for IT?

electricity still travels at the speed of light in copper, or near enough to it to where it makes no difference, so extending the cable via an extension, or just buying a hub with a longer cable in the first place, would make no difference

1ms latency is undetectable tbh. My early ps4 bt setup on pc could add 15ms latency and I never noticed in game

The 1ms you may be seeing is the serialization that occurs for multiple devices sharing a link. It might be a function of your controller more than anything

You could have a km of cable in theory and not notice more than a few ms of latency

once you fully reset the bios, you will have to do any OC again yourself. which includes turning expo on.
