Not really an excuse to steal

stray apex

Sure?

full fossil

i already have a decent cpu + ram config in my main rig so im just gonna buy a 6900xt as a gpu upgrade and forget abt it

Also, if it's Greece
I can't imagine they're making that much

full fossil
full fossil
stray apex
#

Has the Greek economy managed to recover?

full fossil

greek pay is about average, not spectacular but even minimum wage is very livable there

stray apex
#

The average salary in Greece is like
16k euro?

full fossil

Computers are commodity pricing, not so regionalized as food or shelter

elfin nacelle
full fossil
#

yeah

elfin nacelle
#

750 euro without rent? iirc

stray apex
#

Yeah, so a PC would be worth relatively much more

#

A low cost of living doesn't matter to Nvidia or AMD

elfin nacelle
#

Usually the only thing that gets affected by those economies is micro-transactions

full fossil
#

i managed to find a few decent cost computers when i visited a tech store there

#

700 euro for a rig with an 11400, 16gb single channel ram and an rx 6650 xt. it isnt spectacular but still ok, not as inflated as i expected

#

was a prebuilt, but not one of those dell/hp oem boxes, some generic system integrator

Shipping in Italy is more hell lmfao

stray apex
#

They're in the EU, so it's probably hard for prices to be that bad

full fossil
#

i would rather live in greece than any us state or anywhere in like canada

elfin nacelle
#

Okay not sure about that one lol

full fossil
#

the only thing stopping me at this point is the language barrier

stray apex
#

Why?
The US economy is vastly more stable

full fossil
#

greece is a nicer place to live in general

elfin nacelle
#

How so?

stray apex
#

Like, for all its issues the US is at least not stuck with massive debt payment issues

full fossil
# elfin nacelle How so?

i went to a few islands on my most recent trip, very peaceful, essentials and housing are quite cheap, jobs arent hard to find

unkempt widget
#

also debt isn't directly correlated to economy

elfin nacelle
stray apex
#

Yes, and they also lost twenty fucking five percent of their gdp

#

To say that they're doing well economically is probably untrue

full fossil
vapid zephyr

Downfall of the US housing market arose from them moving from low upfront cost high interest towards high upfront cost low interest

unkempt widget
elfin nacelle
#

US is not stuck

stray apex
elfin nacelle
#

If all else congress and the senate will pull something out of their ass from the spending budget to start paying debt worst comes to worst

#

And? USA still has the most powerful economy in the world

stray apex
#

Yes, basically everyone owes debt
They're not all the same

#

Japan owes a ton of debt
Nobody is concerned about Japan suddenly imploding

full fossil
graceful burrow
elfin nacelle
#

Okay well people are concerned about japan imploding but not because of debt lol

#

Because we aren't stuck with it

stray apex
elfin nacelle
#

We may have high debt but it's not like we're incapable of paying it off

unkempt widget
#

they can pay back their debt

stray apex
#

The US owes a lot of money, but it's not even close to the same issue that Greece has

unkempt widget
#

if the us can't pay back their debt, no one will give the us loans

full fossil
#

having a bad economy doesnt directly mean the lives are bad for the people in the country. that may be true in other countries, where if you dont make average, you're practically poverty stricken.

unkempt widget

countries also have credit scores

mint yacht
#

We ain't talking temps we're talking evaporation and loss of coolant

verbal briar
manic torrent
#

You should, as per the recent video, and as per my standards, use a heat exchanger.

#

The PC should be a nice sealed loop, possibly with a rad or two for backup, and a heat exchanger into the bigger loop, which uses the bilge pump and has an appropriately sized reservoir.

#

That way you can also run different coolant in the different systems and you aren't subjecting your PC to garbage water.

#

.... again, as per the recent video ๐Ÿ™‚

Actual coolant

manic torrent
#

also, you almost certainly don't have a 50/50 rate anymore if you're evaporating that much, because it's likely that the glycol sweats out more than the water.

#

OR if it's pure evaporation, the water loses more

#

TLDR: physics is hard

like propylene glycol and silicon - the propylene glycol will just come out of the silicone.

manic torrent
#

thing is - your res is a small loop res. But your ACTUAL loop is probably as big as a car loop, and they have much larger reservoirs.

#

I mean, they also have expansion systems and blah blah, but you get the point. Your reservoir is not sized appropriately.

#

Things that would be a better/cooler reservoir:

  • a wine bottle
  • A bucket
  • A ziplock bag
  • A fishtank iMAC G4
  • A bank of parallel PC reservoirs mounted to the wall
wispy marsh
#

It smells hella bad but it's also really delicious

manic torrent
#

The bank of parallel reservoirs I think would look totally badass, mount them to something nice, have it as a feature. Have some RGB in them.

#

Even better, mount them in front, have actuated valves for each one behind, and program sequences that fill them up one at a time, or do like a wave, or any other kind of patter. Combine that with RGB, and maybe some screens, and you could have an epic showpiece.

#

Here's me handing out my best ideas on discord, free. Sheesh.

Currently this is my layout.

  • 3 Side 120mm Intake
  • 2 Top 140mm w/ Radiator Exaust
  • 1 Rear 120mm Exaust
  • 2 Bottom 140mm Exaust
  • CPU AIO
  • Horizontal GPU (fans on bottom)

What would be the ideal bottom fans layout?
Exhaust or Intake?

Yes it is

Clearly you have not seen the button

#

There is a new premium option for "high bitrate" 1080p

dusk pond
manic torrent
#

I have, and I understand what it is. Youtube has created a high bitrate 1080p for SOME videos, that is a NEW feature, and it changes the existing 1080p not at all.

#

They did not "downgrade 1080p". That's absolutely and unequivocally false.

orchid wagon
#

It's still a pretty douche move from YouTube

manic torrent
#

Is it? providing a new feature to paid users?

#

While not changing the service offering for others?

orchid wagon
#

It's a feature that shouldn't really be a thing

manic torrent
#

Shouldn't it? why?

orchid wagon
#

Yeah sure higher bitrate 1080p is nice but why paywall it for 1080p? Idk what the increase is but considering it's 1080p it can't be that much taxing to Google's infrastructure for them to put it behind a paywall

#

Just because it only benefits premium users doesn't mean it's a valid decision

manic torrent
#

that's not how paid tiers work. You pay for functionality. Cost recovery is complex.

#

valid decision? I guess youtube need to run their commercial decisions past you in the future

manic torrent
#

A good argument for your case is that poorer users tend to have lower power devices that tend to be lower resolution (ie 1080p), and that high bitrate 1080p is a better fit for those users than trying to load a high resolution stream.

orchid wagon
#

That's just my take on it, obviously I'm probably very wrong but I don't have much information on it. So far the speculation (according to several Reddit threads) is that this is just YouTube testing something. Some also do believe that they did downgrade 1080p in turn for this premium bitrate option

For others playing along at home - the google stats don't make it easy at all to see the overall bitrate of a video. Youtube uses variable bitrate, so you really want the average bitrate of the video for comparison purposes. The easiest way to do that is to load youtube, press F12 to load the inspect/debug panel, click network, and filter for 'video'. Click the video, and you'll see all the data that comes down for the video. Watch the whole thing, then calculate the bitrate from the total data vs the playtime.
