I've known a number of people end up out of pocket because they sold a model railway locomotive and the buyer said it didn't work. But because they sent back a locomotive that looked identical to what the photos showed for the listing, eBay sided with the buyer leaving the seller with a dud locomotive that wasn't the original. Some people have begun marking their models internally so they can show their original in an invisible ink/uv ink method, its not full proof, but it has saved them being scammed by buyers on a few occasions.

Yep, that sounds like a pretty strong case. The buyer is trying to get a free laptop or has the exact same model with damage they might have bought dirt cheap and are attempting to force a return refund by sending you the dud.

Usually it's just either an EXPO profile that the sticks hate or RAM in the wrong slots

Perhaps your motherboard set your CPU to a strangely high FCLK and it's unstable, perhaps PBO/CO tuning is unstable
