Asus has shown off a 4060Ti with an m.2 slot on the back. that card only uses 8x gen4 lanes, so theres 8 lanes free for an SSD. Potentially when cards switch to gen 5 we might see the primary SSDs move to the GPU as that can provide better cooling potentially and the cooler designs for gen5 SSDs are getting rather crazy and could interfere with a GPU in the current position. The other option is mobo manufacters might move the slots to the rear of the mobo.

Honestly, if there's anything that's gonna be a hurdle for them is dealing with the customers with more specific needs. Tesla, Google, Apple, and others found that it was just better to not use a more general-purpose solution.
There's also IBM who was in the space earlier than some of them ever were (including Nvidia if I recall) and they were doing their own homegrown solutions.
If we talk just AI companies doing similar stuff to what OpenAI did, then okay, I can see that being taken as a good point. Beyond that, other companies and customers find that Nvidia's, Intel's, or AMD's solutions might not be a one-size-fit-all in their case, so it'll depend there.
