pretty much all handheld portable smartphones and watches use some form of AMOLED display. These displays are great and can be made into custom shapes and with custom cutouts. They are even translucent which helps with under-screen cameras. But AMOLED has proven to not be easily scaled up to larger displays, tends to top out around 15.6 inches. Larger displays use either samsungs new QD-OLED or LG's older WOLED panels. The organic materials that are ink-jet printed onto the substrate are highly reactive/reducing, and oxidize in the presence of atmosphere so the displays have to be manufactured in a vacuum iirc. Having to print 3 seperate colors for the red, green, and blue subpixels for AMOLED makes the machine huge for the size of the panel being made.

LG's solution is to print white OLED, 4 subpixels per pixel, and then color filters for R, G, and B. Red, Green, and Blue subpixels have 60% of their light blocked by the color gel and have to be driven quite hard (high current density) to acheive high intensity.

Samsung has figured out they can instead print quantum dot layer on a panel made with blue OLEDs, and prints green and red quantum dots leaving the blue alone. Each subpixel is physically larger in proportion to the size of the pixel, allowing reduced current density, and also far more efficent to downconvert to a lower wavelength of light, rather than filtering.
