shut violet

shut violet

I love it. It isn’t for everyone - you need a separate work space from where you chill/game etc

muted wind

Otherwise it's too easy to get distracted?

shut violet
#

No, you need separation from your living space and your work space to prevent never stopping

rancid bear
#

Worth noting that IT in a bank, there's gonna be tons of red tape. You'll be doing a lot of the same work each day and you'll be limited in the options you have for troubleshooting, esp. if you're working remotely

Or resenting your living space because you can always see your work area, etc

why do they never use a funnel when filling water loops

#

or better yet, a fitting with a bit of tubing, and a funnel. that way, you have some headroom for cycling the power and its a lot easier to fill with a funnel....

#

i've only ever built one real water loop and know to do it this way lol

#

and why not use an external power supply with the power connectors jumped so that way you dont have to cycle the main computer until the loop is filled.

full fossil
#

Water going everywhere

rancid bear
# full fossil so im soon off to highschool and i want to work in cybersecurity where shold i g...

I work in cybersecurity. To say "there are a lot of options" is putting it mildly. I can't say I recommend a cybersec degree (I have one lol), they don't really reflect your average day to day stuff (mine taught mostly programming which is only useful to me in very specific circumstances at work). A lot of people do T1 helpdesk support, then transition into cybersec after getting a certification like Sec+ or CISSP

#

Unfortunately there's not really a "one size fits all" recommendation. Someone recommended programming concepts earlier, and while that can be very helpful it really depends on what you work on. Most of my team couldn't write a PowerShell script if their lives depended on it, yet they are extremely competent engineers

hearty spear
spiral zodiac
#

better yet, disconnect cpu/gpu/atx power, wire the atx connector to turn on the psu and pumps, so you can fill it all.

hearty spear
rancid bear
#

"Oh but it all interests me" yeah if you figure out how to solve that problem lemme know lmao

hearty spear
#

The Bykski thing was a great idea, and almost awesome execution, but instead, they fucked it all the hell up.

spiral zodiac
#

you never turn on your pc with an untested water loop that needs filling. you disconnect all the power and wire the psu to turn on with only the pump, you pressure test and fill the loop that way. i learned that back in uh...2012?

muted wind
#

One day, linus will find a way to water cool a water cooler. Pumps get water cooled, tubing gets water cooled, reservoir gets water cooled, fittings get water cooled

spiral zodiac
#

you generally dont need to water cool a pump

#

electric motors are extremely efficient, very little waste heat

hearty spear

the water in the pump cools the pump lol

We must water cool the water

Idk what to do

spiral zodiac

then play whatever you want up to the ps1 era.

full fossil
spiral zodiac
#

oled switches require an actual mod chip to modify them, while mine just requires an RCM jig and a pc.

full fossil
#

Im scared if i sell it that i will want one again

spiral zodiac
#

could just get a deck and emu the switch....

hearty spear
spiral zodiac

or a higher end portable pc and emu the switch

hearty spear

it's not like it's gonna take up a ton of space to hold onto it

ugh im so confused

spiral zodiac

they're saying the rog ally is going to be about 850usd

but its pretty beefy for 850usd tbh.

stray apex
#

do you actually use the portable features of the switch
or do you just occasionally want to play nintendo exclusives

spiral zodiac
#

thats why i modded mine lol

#

i dont really need multiplayer, i'm more interested in single player games

full fossil
#

Just playing mario kart and splatoon from time to time

#

But im kinda getting bored of those

muted wind
#

I think those 2 games count as nintendo exclusives

#

Using the Switch for its portability would be playing something like Hades- a game that you could easily run on a desktop PC, but choose to buy on the Switch instead cuz it's more portable

#

Of course, that's something that you also easily do on a steam deck for the same portability reasons

full fossil
#

Thing is, these two games are like sweets for me

#

I would want to play them but i dont feel the need to get up to play them

#

In this context to boot up the switch

waxen mantle
#

Well, well well

full fossil
#

Idk, what would you do if you were in my situation?

muted wind
#

Still, if the only reason you're keeping your Switch is for those 2 games, then teeechnically you're keeping the console for nintendo exclusives

molten drift
#

Why own a console for just 2 games

That's a bit backwards

muted wind
#

It was the same for wii u, to be fair

#

People ended up only playing splatoon and smash bros on that thing iirc lol

#

It would be a lot more compelling if first party games werent so fricken expensive tho

#

No one wants to drop 80 dollars a pop for a game that may or may not be worth it

#

Oh lets make it more fun: 80 dollars for the game, but also charge for a subscription to use online features

#

Oh lets make it even better better: charge for the online subscription, but make it so that online multiplayer is dogshit peer to peer connections on a console that originally doesnt even have an ethernet port

I hadn't, but yeh it's not surprising, litterally commented on one of the animations of it that it would going to be significantly more explody IRL. As long as it didn't explode over the launchpad and take all that it tis fine, if they don't get it on the third try though it will be worrying.

it was a partial success, since the rocket they launched today is already 2 versions out of date, and the entire point of the rocket today was to see if they could get the entire thing off the ground

But to dismiss SpaceX because Elon says stupid things is stupid in an of it's self because SpaceX has proven it's self to be more capable than the traditional launch providers. for example F9, Dragon 2 which has less time and less money to develop a capsule vs Boeing's Starliner, but managed to get there capsule in use a whole year before Starliner had a successful test.

Forgetting that chernobyl happened because they didn't have a pressure vessel which every other reactor in the world had which would have prevented a radiation leak and that they built it stupidly in other ways as well and that they violated the procedures for the power plant because the engineers knew that it was badly designed.

Fukushima happened because of a tsunami that killed over 100,000 people, how many tsunamis has Germany ever had?

polar fern

Gen 4 reactors will be far safer and far less of an issue with nuclear waste because they can run hotter and therefore produce fewer extremely dangerous isotopes.

stray apex
thorny axle

It’s a huge amount of work to put the waste in the sun; you need to remove all the velocity, which is a tremendous amount of energy (less than it takes to launch it out of the solar system). It’s incredibly expensive too, way too expensive to ever consider. It’s also just not safe enough, we can’t have rockets blowing up with them ever, not once in 100, 1000, 10,000, it has to be insanely rare
