Solving world hunger doesn’t mean delivering food to people 🤣

Dear sirs and madams, I require assistance with a laptop suggestion.

Do you not understand farming?

That's great but farming takes time

Wait, I take that back - a stupid question to ask someone who clearly doesn’t understand how food works

steep girder

In some parts of the world. Sometimes yeah there's like generally dictatorship which ensures any foreign aid packages never make it to the people suffering. Those have to go first one way or another if you want to help them lol

Honestly US built nuke first. I keep forgetting this. Soviet union is the archetypal doomsday device inventor lol. They only stocked up on nukes because US had them. And so it continued lol.

Having said that, US only used it once for the very good intentions to end WW2. It's still tragic ultimately because that's what weapons do. So a really powerful one...

For some reason only germans and russians were crazy enough to be that far in quantum mechanics + equipment. Nobody else could build a nuke. Now apparently there's enough unaccounted for missing enriched uranium or whatever for many rogue nukes to be built

Never thought how much power LED strips draw. I was looking at SK6812 strips and the product listing says 60LEDs/m draws 18W/m and I'd need 2m of it so I'd be drawing 36W for some god damn LEDs

Wikipedia pages are white, if the screen is bright it will set the LEDs bright, so more power draw

yes. You're so concerned about a POSSIBLE 36W power draw (which btw if you have RGBW won't be happening)

manic torrent
steep girder
#

Yeah 75Hz is high enough I think. Apparently it's around 200Hz irl by some age.

#

But 75Hz is nice. Literally anything above 60. Even CRT monitors 60Hz was the one that gave everyone headache. 75 was ok.

wise tundra
#

I don't do gaming so 75Hz is pretty nice

steep girder
#

I was perfectly fine doing most of my gaming in that one period when people switched to LCD from tube monitors. Literally everything 1280x1024 60Hz. Didn't expect anything else

Some crazy monitors already existed but expensive af usually. Plus it was hard to do 1024 and up with higher refresh over VGA

My old monitor was a 17" 1024p 4:5 office monitor. It was ... shit

steep girder

But in 2000s every screen was LCD. There were two kinds: 60Hz decent and 60Hz somehow worse with trail

manic torrent

The only sensible solution is 4k 120hz OLED

wise tundra
#

I haven't seen any 90Hz desktop monitors. One of those would be pretty sick if the existed

steep girder
#

I didn't really care at all if it didn't have trail because 60Hz on LCD was somehow ok. I was right about there being a trick. Same 60Hz only pixels don't refresh in row together and dim

manic torrent
wise tundra
steep girder
#

So 60Hz in 90s wasn't bad because it's not fast enough for FPS. Least concern. It literally caused migranes lol. I never really noticed any difference between refresh in games.

steep girder
#

Hell i'd even play 60Hz sometimes if it was a monitor that could do 1600x1200 (wow!)

full fossil
wise tundra
#

I see a difference from 60 to 75 so idk what you're talking about

steep girder

For it to be a TV in the classic sense it has to also do 60 and 30 a certain way or 50/25 the same thing. Depending on europe or america + japan and other places idk

The iGPU probably ain't the greatest but the CPU should be fine

#

If you're for an iGPU build, get a Ryzen 7 5700G. Don't even think about any other chip

Because everything is NTSC or PAL refresh and the analog television stuff always plays as is. In other words, everything was broadcasted, recorded on vhs, etc for TV's refresh rates.

full fossil

If you already have it, why upgrade?

#

It's a good enough CPU as long as you have a fine GPU

full fossil
manic torrent
steep girder
#

When PS2s and even PS3s showed up and people still used analog av or something, the PS graphics hardware would output either NTSC or PAL lol. Or you transcoded. I have a VHS player that does that. It can convert pal secam and ntsc to either one. Or through

manic torrent
steep girder
full fossil
#

Because I work at like a computer shop , and one of my customers just need a decent build for a budget

wise tundra
#

Are they going to game? If yeah, just throw a GPU with it and it's good enough

full fossil
wise tundra
#

I'm not sure how that preforms, but when thinking what it used to cost, I'd guess it's good enough

full fossil
#

It's a beast but bad at the same time also the PSU hates it

steep girder
#

They turn black and white and start scrolling like projector film the same all three of them. Idk maybe it's hard to see the difference in that but then PS2s and DVD players etc just got funnier lol. Pretty sure it didn't matter ever though. Unless PAL tvs do something diff for 3 signals.

#

It's funny because that's literally what happens only it's stroboscopic effect and the frames aren't slowly moving up or down. It's way faster and you're looking at the equivalent of a rim on wheel spin up to where you see stationary again.

#

Then there's the stuff between the frames intended to be off screen lol.

#

Probably the closest thing analog can get to digital offscreen buffers haha.

steep girder

#

Also Apple stole it because they called it metal without the 3 lol

manic torrent

which was the sequel to Terminal Velocity. Amusingly, the DOS based Terminal Velocity was much faster and better than the first version of Fury^3

full fossil
#

does directx even do anything if you don't have a gpu

manic torrent
full fossil
#

How about direct11

#

Or direct X11

steep girder
#

DirectX and any of those GLs... anything of that sort doesn't do anything at all in the first place

manic torrent
#

Microsoft DirectX is a collection of application programming interfaces (APIs) for handling tasks related to multimedia, especially game programming and video, on Microsoft platforms. Originally, the names of these APIs all began with "Direct", such as Direct3D, DirectDraw, DirectMusic, DirectPlay, DirectSound, and so forth. The name DirectX was...

steep girder
#

It is a specification just like an API for the interface.

#

Yes I was going to say. DirectX included a bunch of stuff. There was also DirectDraw and stuff. To be honest DirectDraw what even is it lol

manic torrent
steep girder
#

It can be accelerated I guess lol. Either way you installed directX entirely only with GPU that supports direct3d.

manic torrent
steep girder
#

OpenGL and AL are separate as it should be tbh. Why does DirectSound have to have anything to do with X

manic torrent
#

it's fundamental to so many things.

manic torrent
steep girder
#

It shouldn't matter in the end as long as you have direct3d driver. 2d you could implement software through the 3d stuff. Unless DirectX doesn't have ortho projection mode lol

#

But all of that does nothing. It's just a library you call as a specified interface to card. The driver itself supplies its own version. Still, you need it badly somehow lol

#

Imagine writing game for each individual GPU on market.

manic torrent
steep girder
#

Nintendo had a graphics processor and it's one of my fav examples: had firmware of its own which essentially could be seen sitting between the same things GL and such do. But also like nobody bothered touching it lol. Everybody used Nintendo's supplied default one mostly

full fossil

Makes sense because somebody else's hardware microcode but you're trying to just write a game. Back then perhaps people were having these struggling experiences because of the very same 'GPU' only they didn't call it that.

steep girder

I'm bored. But case and point about all the stuff I blabbered earlier. You can always optimize classical algorithm for prime factorization by primarily eliminating any count greater than the square root of the number you're given. So it's involved in the solution somehow and yet you get a complete finite usually countable answer

steep girder
#

Irl you're checking if the count you're testing squared is gteq the number you're factorizing

#

So square is easier than square root somehow. In fact you don't even know if it is rational root to begin with. Sometimes it is a perfect square and other times not

Is that not the same thing as factorizing but more than primes?

Honestly tap water has the same plastics acting as xenoestrogens but also worse because there are like pharmaceuticals in it for actual hormones. It's rarely clean in cities obviously so they at least nuke it with chlorine. Then you filter it and pretty much just get rid of the chlorides lol

Well ain't no enchantment. I guess the whole scenario is enchanted because people go to springs for minerals. Tap water has them but you filter it out often lmfao. Unless you're drinking it chlorinated or let stand a bit. You can distill it either vaporizing and collecting or maybe electrolysis

dDar knows where he is because he knows where he isn’t. This unguided monkey with his broken lending gear has the brain clearance of an unbaked tomato. his instructions were to fly tight formation on my left echelon, but by differentiating, that from the algebraic sum of not being a rotisserie chicken, he isn’t where he is supposed to be. He is in my left wing. He will cause the total ruination of my control surfaces, causing me to be in the most remarkable, unrecoverable, flat spin ever conceived by man. An occurrence which, even the most decorated test pilot, the General Dynamics can birth, cannot induce. This F-16 fighting falcon is doomed. There is no recovery it is dead unresurrectable. All due to his numb nut knowing where he should be, but where he isn’t. dDar urgently requires a state funded vasectomy. He is a national security risk. I have seen an orangutan, three bottles of Smirnoff deep handle a vehicle in a safer manner than what I have witnessed here today. Please bar this man from flying again, I am begging you. Proceeds to downward spiral to the ground because dDar has the IQ point equivalent to a moldy potato

I can understand how you would think cadence means style though - because it is a similar word. cadence is about the rhythm and timing, style is about more than that. So I can see how you would say I have a similar cadence to your dad, because likely we tend to speak in longer sentences, having grown up in a different world.

Also I'm a wordy fucker.

for my double monitor setup

#

manic torrent
#

then surely you want an identical monitor....

full fossil
#

you’ve got a point…

#

uh oh….

manic torrent
#

They don't have to be the same, and they don't have to match refresh rate, but yes, you should make them work together. I got these side monitors specifically to go with my main.

full fossil
#

oh i’ll just have a vertical one

#

that’s what i meant like lined up

#

not identical

wispy marsh
manic torrent
#

from my experience the most important thing for a vertical monitor is that you get an IPS panel monitor, because it will look good sideways. VA will not.

Theoretically 16tb in a single usb is possible

#

It'll be quite large because it has to contain either 2x8tb or 4x4tb nvme's

I'd lean more towards multi monitor because outside of games, a separate monitor helps a lot
