Regarding the YouTube channel hack, we are on top of it with Google's team now. Everything should be locked down and we are getting to the bottom of the attack vector with the (hopeful) goal of hardening their security around YouTube accounts and preventing this sort of thing from happening to anyone in the future.

You can expect a more detailed update on WAN Show at some point in the future. Not sure if it'll happen this week since this is still a developing situation.

The good news is that you can expect to get your LTT fix on Floatplane as usual :p

Actually it's Google fault, they have a broken 2fa system and that's how so many YouTube channels are getting hacked. Just search "my channel was hacked" and you'll see tons of videos about this.

Basically Google doesn't require 2fa in order to change 2fa info, so a malicious program can easily automatically remove 2fa info, change it to something else, then reset the password

There is huge, detrimental and fatal flaws in YouTube's security system that have been unaddressed for years. I had a channel that got hacked around a year and a half ago, and I lost the channel due to YouTube deleting it as a result of NSFW content that the hacker uploaded to it. I had a strong and unique password and MFA enabled on that account and no third party applications had access - yet YouTube completely denied all possibility of a security flaw and refused to reinstate my channel. Hopefully LTT's huge presence can draw attention to the problems at hand.

"Regarding the YouTube channel hack, we are on top of it with Google's team now. Everything should be locked down and we are getting to the bottom of the attack vector with the (hopeful) goal of hardening their security around YouTube accounts and preventing this sort of thing from happening to anyone in the future.

this type of account hijack involves stealing a session token, which does indeed mean it bypasses any two-factor authentication

youtube doesn't ask for 2FA for changing your name and profile picture which is really fucking dumb and has been pointed out is a major flaw they need to fix

Youtube wasn't hacked. It wasn't the problem.

The problem was, most likely, that someone's device or PC was compromised with a Remote Attack Trojan, and the hacker got access to the google account.

YT can't stop that. Someone at LTT Fucked up, and that's the crux of things.
