1 GPU speaking to another GPU is only quick when its at very very short distances... that why when you have multi cpu systems, they are on the same board, and as close together as you can get them... you start pushing that data through connectors, daughter boards, traces with different impedance, boards that may be plugged into a different power source type.. those are factors that still exist now... regardless of if its SLI or new-tech... physics is the limiting factor...
