i just hope they prefer cars over computers.
Useful != Required
You can be in IT and never have touched Linux.
i hope your kids become tech youtubers just to spite you
yo guys
i'd be ecstatic
if they only like one they will be an unrounded engineer
Lmao
can anyone try find great wall eps 1250da on cultists
comp sci = poop, mech eng = poop, electrical eng = goated
i'm just saying that my personal preference is that my children are helping me work on a project, not locked up on cod like how we all grew up
most of us at least.
gang is real for this take
Lol I never played COD. I was a Club Penguin kid.
make sure the car you buy them doesn't have a Linux based information system
I actually never played any of the cod games when i was growing up
I was always interested in retro systems now that i think about it
linux car?
?
i'm on my phone and cant ctrl f
I was always into emulation and shit. i think because my dad had a mame arcade cabinet in the basement and introduced me to the classic arcade games
early childhood i had a few shooters but always loved racing more
i'm going to be investing 4-7k on a project for my truck and was never taught anything about cars until i thought myself. it's really fun to fix your own shit and make it fast yourself
the tabets they slap in every car to control the radio, climate controls
I've always really liked action rpgs
Tales of phantasia was like
the first gba game i emulated on my pc because it was the first rom i found online
oh lord, both my truck and car have aftermarket radios. i hope they aren't linux lol
If I have to use a touch screen to control climate in my car, I ain’t using it.
probably explains why both of them crash all the time
i wouldn't mine an lcd display with physical dials and buttons
your cheap purchases dont reflect on Linux itself
currently having an epiphany over my minecraft childhood
huh. my 400$ radios were cheap, thanks for assuming i suppose
Linux is a powerful system but I’m confused why we want it in a car?
Infinity windows
~~average linux hater:
"everything I don't like is linux"~~
Is this a thing?
some people love having "smart cars" where you have to navigate menus to do the most basic of tasks
pi car
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VLS_AJIaTM or auto makers use cheap old cpus
Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/FullyBuffered
Car infotainment systems are becoming more advanced every year, which requires special hardware. A few years ago Volvo (and later Polestar) partnered up with Intel to get special Atom chips for their new Android-based infotainment. Interestingly, these are nearly idential to the Atom chips that made...
Aren’t those usually either Android or BSD-based?
its able to be stripped down for any purpose
Nah
Embedded linux
Wait, really?
automakers have switched to Tegra
it's a lot easier to use linux instead of android for a car
it'd be running an app instead of something totally separate like linux
The same chip in the Nintendo Switch also powers car brands like Tesla, Honda, Fiat, BMW, Mini, Volkswagen, Audi, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Lamborghini, Porsche, Maserati and Aston Martin.
turn it on and it goes straight to the radio and what not
but android is based on linux
if my car doesn't use 32 core i won't drive it
I actually had know idea this was a thing. Linux in a car?
linux car linux car
I ran linux in my car in 1999
You do NOT want your apps running on the same computer as the drive control computer.
you can get usable linux down to double digit MBs of usdage at idle.
Android uses the Linux kernel, but that’s about the extent of it’s usage.
BMW is actually going to switch to Android for iDrive 9
iDrive 8 and 7 are based on Linux
yes, which is still...... linux 😄
If automakers are doing that, that’s ab automatic heck no from me.
the pcm is controlled by the touch screen, if that crashes you die, lol
nobody is running apps on their ECU. Modern cars just have a shitload of canbus components
I guess if we want to be specific, GNU/Linux and Android are very different things, even if they both use the same kernel.
yes, but most people say 'linux' as if it's a single thing. which it isn't.
the display in my truck has an hdmi, meaning theoretically i could use my desktop while driving. windows truck
People usually say “Linux” in reference to “GNU/Linux”. It’s not wrong, that’s just how the language developed. It’s kinda rare that we’d have to be very specific about it, you almost certainly knew what I meant.
someone in here has a whole desktop in their truck.
even then, when you are comparing "linux" to "windows" - it still doesn't mean much.
the power inverter i have can run all of my hardware, power tools and what not but i prefer to hook up my laptop and play forza
if my lady drives i just game
you probably don't mean android or LFS, sure, but do you mean popOS or ubuntu or arch or mint or.....
Pop and Ubuntu are the same thing
the only linux device i really use regularly other than my phone is my steam deck, which i'm actually typing from right now lol
wow
How much screen bleeding is Comman in ips screens?
i set up a dock at my desk and i've been using it out instead of my full pc
prices in china are wack
Had a friend of mine who slipstreamed Windows XP and disabled logging on it to minimize or completely remove writing. It was his radio console.
“Linux Desktop” is an umbrella term that very well covers all those distros.
a little is pretty common
popOS is based on ubuntu but they're not the same
Pop is based on Ubuntu, but that doesn’t make them the same thing.
pop!OS more like pop there goes your system files
I bought a new laptop and i am not sure if the bleeding is too much or not, can you help
you might as well say ubuntu is debian
That’s like saying iOS and macOS are the same thing because iOS was based on macOS.
someone should really make a family tree of all linux distros
i've used linux on a raspberry pi, that's the extent of my usage.
That’s… actually a thing.
they are. Pop just adds a Separate ISO for Linux devices with Nvidia and its own store.
Someone has done it.
i need to see it
I wish I could share images here, but “Linux Distro Tree” gives good results.
it includes its own themes but to that extent its barely different from Ubuntu
thank you
anyways
Wikipedia
apparently amd cards are out of stock because nobody likes amd in china
I’m not sure I follow
but that means they sold out
Amd overheats alot
they don't restock is my point
so does Nvidia when they catch on fire
according to the salesperson, "we never recommend a cards (that's how you call them in china) to gamers because it takes two years for them to optimize their drivers"
Never had any of my AMD cards overheat.
people hear a lie about AMD and blindly run with it
the new ones have issues with being hot, i think
the 7900 xtx has bad thermal pads or something
they had a Defect where the Vapor chambers had no liquid in it
the reference 7900xtx had a QC problems with the vapor chamber
not all reference had this problem
idk i've just heard there were QC issues
personally, i run a 6600 xt in my desktop and don't have any problems with it
it was a bad batch. blown up out of Proportion
and the only cards in stock were 4070 ti from gigashite or random chinese company
ah yes
literally worthless
Lol that checks.
that was better than my 3070
I just bought an RX 6800 anime card so im hoping the AMD rumors arent true again
sounds like that time when people said drivers blew the gpus up lol
it was physical damage from being stored in a wet place
this will be the last time i buy AMD if it is (i said this about my RX 5700 too lol)
I still occasionally hear people say Android phones explode.
oh yeah. Nvidia users erupted with Anti AMD bullshit because of that
i think that's gamers nexus's latest video
or at least one of them
Did we all just up and forget the bad VRM’s(?) and the 4090 firegate? Better stay away from NVIDIA as well.
That leaves us with just Intel.
"OH ITS THE DRIVERS AMD BAD! AMD BAD!" no its cause pieces of shit ripped them from people who need them and Abused them
AHHHHHHHHH
iGPU?
the 12 or so exploding gpu die rumor was from mined on cards
I bought a new laptop and i am not sure if the bleeding is too much or not, can anyone help ?
Intel or AMD? We just learned AMD is bad and so is NVIDIA. So just Intel igpu or dgpu
Mined on cards arent inherently bad though its just some idiot powerwashed them with water or something
Intel Arc for the win!
… and yes, I’m not serious.
What is screen bleeding
anytime anyone says "I heard X" they should get an electric shock
me when dx10
i'm honestly suprised how many people didn't even stop to Logic check this fucking idea
you don't, why should other people
I once heard...
My point is, go with what works best for you. Both AMD and NVIDIA are reputable companies.
i use logic
Average "I heard" fan
Average "My understanding was" enjoyer
Didn’t Linus pretty much say “Yeah, Arc still sucks… but they’re rapidly improving by the day, so the future looks bright” or something?
AMD has always been the underdog in the GPU industry
yeah, i clicked away right away because i knew i was gonna lose brain cells
I don't plan on buying any ada lovelace cards at all
Nvidia cards are basically a write off for this gen, i'm just hoping that a mid gen refresh of rx 7000 is good or i'm waiting for arc battlemage
Wait, why? What’s wrong with that conclusion?
i didn't watch the video, watched 30 seconds
i get a feeling that 5000 is gonna be just as shit if not even more
Nah 5000 should be better
every new gen is a new chance
they just better not fucking blow it
…wait, so you saw that the video isn’t gonna be entirely negative, and so you clicked away to save your brain cells?
20 series was a dissapointment, 30 series was godsend except 3080 tis and up
because the 4070 Ti proves that no matter how many shit products they release and no matter how many people hate it. they will buy the fucking thing anyway.
yeah 4070 Ti is kinda weird
30 series was okay
40 series is a tire fire
But tbh I'd definitely put the 4080 over the 7900XTX
its dumb its selling at all.
that's stupid
You can say so
the 4080 is $200 more and only does better in raytracing
4080 has better RTRT, better upscaling technology, much better efficiency, frame generation and motion interpolation out the box, CUDA for acceleration, better in most productivity workloads, and can actually overclock without losing performance
And doesn't have QC issues with its vapor chamber
i thought it was gonna be entirely negative
if you really think RT is that important then you gotta take your head out your arse.
the cost of a monitor
I guarantee it plays the games the users want to play just fine. That’s why it sells.
frame generation lmao
okay buddy
Fortnite with Raytracing looks really good
Cuda 😋
heres a Factoid. it was the 4080 12GB
UE5 is truly amazing
Nah, there was actually a mix of negativity and positivity.
cuda and productivity tasks are valid points but if you think the frame generation is really a selling point that's 💀
That's a cheap ass monitor
have fun with that
nobody wanted the 4080 12GB yet they are buying it anyway
Frame generation and motion interpolation out of the box
hey i just got a 4080
My condolences
your L
7900XTX only wins in rasterization
Ohh wait a sec…
I'm so sorry for the loss of your wallet
the vram might be a bit off
Ahh they played dirty with the naming, eh?
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/cB3gXL/hp-x27q-270-2560x1440-165-hz-monitor-2v7u5aaabu you can get a mid range one
they didnt do what Nvidia should have done and called the 16GB the Ti and raised the price by 100
Yeah and they realized how stupid the naming was and reverted it
I'd take $200 for better featureset personally but it seems thats just me
At the point im spending $1000 on a GPU whats $200 more
I have standards.
$200 more that could be used on a bunch of better things, that's what
you could spend that money on games or better hardware elsewhere
Tbh I don’t really have a stake in that game - I’d probably build a PC with an Arc GPU if the thing continues to improve rapidly.
Tell that to somebody that does stuff besides gaming on their PC
somebody that does stuff besides gaming will probably buy the 4090
I just scrolled through 3 years worth of video to find the day where they switched from the 'classic' intro to the newer one. its "I Made my Own Keyboard Keycaps!!", I think. (1st May 2020)
because it's a business expense for them
And even those that do game, they enjoy DLSS 3.0 and far better Raytracing performance
the fact that the 3080 is 600 dollars more than the 6800M is just more proof that Nvidia is greedy as fuck
most people don't actually turn on raytracing
what?
Wait does Linux work on Arc at all at this point?
Do no one knows about screen bleeding
source?
Terrible IO.
LTT actually did a poll and most people answered that they've never even turned it on
yeah the 3080 is more expensive than the 6800M when its competitive
Poll that was well over a year old
do you have a source for those prices
What more do u need 😕 Besides a full AC power input i always prefer that
Think of all the games that have released throughout 2022 and coming in 2023
not really remembering any big hits with RT
do you have any example because i really wasn't paying attention to new games like at all
Cyberpunk? Control? Fortnite? Battlefield V? Call of Duty?
3+ display in. USB hub. 120V AC.
Big hits?
Hell, even MINECRAFT has RTX now
Rat game 2 🙏
most people don't even turn it on in any of those
and it's only in minecraft bedrock
I forgot Far Cry 6
who the fuck turns on raytracing in FPS games that you need high framerates in
Why not, if you have a powerful enough GPU
buying a card for the RT alone is just dumb.
Maybe that player isn’t that competitive and is only there to have fun, and so FPS isn’t a major concern?
and its not like AMD is Incapable
Until you prove that your point is moot
prove that an appreciable number of people actually use RT
Ive played tons of games where RT has changed the beauty of a world significantly
like what
But casual gamers should save money and buy AMD (or used)
Metro Exodus, Fary Cry 6, even Fortnite looks amazing in RT
I don't even think rt makes a big difference in visual in most games
Try UE5 fortnite then
Maybe that casual gamer also happens to use that same computer to do professional video editing?
It looks absolutely crazy
Fortnite took a W with these graphics😩

I will try
Fortnite doesnt even look like fortnite anymore
how about USED AMD my god. its Perfect
Its actually ridiculous
personally; I have literally never played fortnite anyway
and probably never will
What exactly are we fighting over with Raytracing here?
Or new Arc 🤔
I'm saying that it's a meme of a feature that most people don't use
nah. not that good just yet
its been a meme since 2018
Displayfusion allows me to adjust for offset and ppi 🙂
it's still not worth using for most people
Nice fan
Now tons of popular games have it and DLSS 3.0 makes RT worth having on
barely
It does even if its a little
gonna be real with you
i've never met a single person outside of LTT or stockdrops that turns raytracing on
That poor deskpad
literally not a single one
800 dollar minimum and you too can render at 1080p with input lag so you can run ray tracing ⚱️
But some people do? What exactly is your point there?
my point is that most people don't and it isn't worth turning on
i do
i use rt
yeah but its blown way out of proportion when people say its cool. they act like its Nessasary
it's quite cool
Do we need to talk about priorities again? Some people do like Raytracing.
you arent most people
I mean....PS5 will do RT for only half that
/s
I intern at a computer shop, I have tons of people come to me every week asking what they need to play XYZ game with maximum settings and raytracing, i explain to them what it means to have it and i build it for them
how would it be "again"
i don't remember ever talking to you
I love how that’s the word you focused on.
the only time ive used rt was on the riftbreaker
piss off
And no, these are not nerds, these are literally fucking 12 year olds with boogers coming out of their nose and talking to me about Raytraced fortnite
and a game with 1000s of shadows at once it really works
so you do a greedy nvidia shilling?
that probably explains it lmao
Nope
I dont shill for any companies, like I said
I literally have an RX 6800 in my system lol
yeah clearly a lie.
Amazing
you just can't stop targetting people personally can you
Im shilling for nvidia because I proved a point saying the only thing the 7900XTX has over a 4080 is rasterizing performance
you would guide them to AMD if they want cheap and good performance. not Nvidia

I guide everyone to AMD as a first pick
At least for the 6000 series I do
The 5000 series i do not
I personally would just recommend everyone a used 6700 xt lmao
none of the new cards are good buys rn tbh
I mean the XTX has decent RT performance and on occasion outperforms the 4080 in RT, but only in edge cases.
Do you have any benchmarks for this im curious
if you're doing productivity professionally, you're probably going to grab a 4090 because you need it for rendering and shit; but if you're just gaming, just go get a used 6700 xt or something
I havent seen a single instance where the 7900XTX has topped the 4080 in RT
It only really happens when cpu memory bandwidth bound for building the BVH
used nvidia card is way easier to get because the market is completely saturated with them
have you never looked at ebay?
I got an RTX 3070 for $275 and an RTX 3080 Ti for $475
Gotham Knights and the Callisto protocol are the most extreme examples of that
And then an RTX 3090 Ti for $600
way easier to get MINED Nvidia cards
$275 3070? where the fuck do you live
the average person knows a lot more about nvidia than amd tbh
You can have a 6900xt outperform a 4090 in RT
Great, as long as the mined cards are treated nicely i dont mind
where the fuck do you live that you find a $275 3070
source
the usa
i bought a 3070 for 220
PAHAHAHAH. good joke.
i used it for 2 days and sold it
does everyone just have access to a magic version of ebay that I don't where the prices are way lower
i once saw a 3090ti for 355
craigslist, so yes
yes you do
Not a joke lol
Professionally mined on cards are better than gamed on cards
nobody lists anything on craigslist around here except fucking tires and old furniture
there's no pc hardware at all
I dunno, did a quick glance on eBay, a 3070 for $275 doesn’t seem that far fetched.
yeah say that when all the mining cards are pressure washed and Discolored.
might as well get a 6700xt but ok
i'm only seeing like 400 and above
Nvidia beats AMD in RT as expected once you have properly tuned DDR5 on Intel cpus
"all the mining cards" lmao wtf
update
fixed my search, i see $350 and above
Also the RTX 3090 Ti for $600
Did you know rtx 2070s = Xbox series x GPU and Ryzen 5 3600x = cpu
still not near 275 💀
what? that isn't right
the xsx has 8 cores
then how good is the PS5's GPU
it's like a 5700 xt
And has a lot more memory bandwidth
how does a ps5 ray trace then?
the xsx has like a ryzen 7 3700
because it's rdna 2
More like a 4750g
Ray pooping
damn my pc smokes a series s
it's just equal to a 5700 xt in performance
Monolithic zen2
all of mine do
But the graphics are like a 2070s not the integrated thingy
Do am5s still slow boot yall?
You reminded me I still need to play hyperdimension neptunia
the series S has a shitty gpu but it still has the good cpu
Ill never get around to that
If you actually want decent memory training get raptorlake with an XOC mobo
My z690 dark trains memory in a few seconds
But muh 3d cache 😭
Until about 7600mhz
Faster ram > more cache
Not every piece of software will have a good cache hitrate with more cache
But the performance difference on even 6000 vs 8000 isn't nearly as great as 3d cache has been for 5800 series chips and competitors so that seems wrong
Not everything benefits, but a lot of things do
In a decent chunk of games the 5800X3D had zero improvements or even regressions over the 5800X
I have no idea what y’all are talking about at this point 🙃
Fair but the 5800x3d is still relevant even against the 13900k https://www.techpowerup.com/review/rtx-4090-53-games-core-i9-13900k-vs-ryzen-7-5800x3d/3.html#:~:text=Even so%2C the mighty i9,down to mid single-digit.
Wait when did this happen? I thought y’all were talking about GPUs?
The memory controller is raptorlake's secret weapon
If 7700x is on average 2% slower than 13900k, 7800x3d will pass it if the architectural changes are as great as they say over 5800 series
Rocketlake is better if you do funny gear2 ddr4 overclocking
Definitely is, with the memory training improvements and the modularity with DDR4/DDR5
Raptorlake really needs a damn good mobo to perform it's best though
Nothing comes close to the z790 apex
People have gotten 8800 cl36 daily stable now

at what cost
Z790 apex and waterblocked ddr5
What is the performance improvement? I think 7800 saw 5% increase over 6000
It's much larger than that and actually tune your subtimings properly
If your using XMP it's basically the same
Reviewers keep saying don't do it it's too low value. Do you have a source?
…subtiming?
memory has a looooooooot of options
You can get a cheap ddr5 kit with a good memory die in it and oc it heavily
There are 6000 cl32 kits that can OC over 8000
i'm just waiting for good all amd laptops. fuck Dell
B-die 🤩
Bdie ddr5 is trash though lmao. Still better than micron
Rip, B-die had such a good rep with DDR4
I mean all I'm saying is the benchmarks don't justify the cost of a single percentile increase
Not always it was notorious for a wide silicon variance
Some bdie can't even do 3000mhz
dell loves it
I have micron DDR4 in my system rated for 3200C16 but it cant hit 3600C18
Maybe I should go beyond 1.4V
Guessing downbin rev e?
I have no idea the nitty gritty of the actual spec
If it's corsair it might be the funky pcb
Yeah its Corsair Vengeance Pro
mine was rated for 3000cl15 and im running at 3800 cl 16-18-18-38
I have another set of DDR4 3200C16 from some really weird chinese manufacturer
Corsair uses dual rank pcbs for single rank modules on ddr4
What voltages are you running
1.39
Atp ill have a better time overclocking whatever the hell the chinese kit is
Bruh https://www.overclock.net/threads/ddr4-4400-c16-1t-gear1-vs-ddr5-8000-c36-performance-with-13900k-and-rtx-4090.1802973/ why are you pushing ddr5 8000 like it's meaningful
1.35 stock?
yup
4400mhz ddr4 gear1 is a golden sample
This is my kit rn as it is
Ddr5 8000mhz is possible on more memory controller bins
Bro how can there be this much tech jargon… here I was thinking I actually knew anything about computers.
This is kind of the same data I've gleaned from multiple other sources. Ddr5 8000 isn't worth it
You don't buy ddr5 8000
You buy DDR5 6000-6800
And OC it
maybe its because my room is just hot all the damn time. I read that RAM hates hot temperatures more than a cpu/gpu die
Would also explain how my RTX 3070 went to +1300MHz on the memory in subzero testing when it was +800MHz in ambient stable
If you're implying you can get better timings from this other die it won't prove more than a single percentile increase likely. That sort of nullifies the argument rtl has better memory than zen by a meaningful amount
My room gets hot and nothing in it performs well
And since cache has a meaningful impact in enough circumstances rather than not, zen 4 3d kinda might be the winner
Depends on the memory ic
what did you do?
is that fine?
putting a 13600K on a b660m
The good old days
yeah you need to flash. you should have a tool that would make the USB for BIOS flashing or something\
I've seen temp errors for DDR5 as low as 45c lmao
ik, but is exFAT fine?
i have no idea. any flashing of my BIOS is done through a Program.
it should be i dont think it should care cause FAT is the most common File systems supported.
all the tutorials i find says to use FAT32
use skinny23
you mbo manufacturer should have a step by step thing for it
13100 is underrated
the more money 12100
What’s underrated about it
It’s like barely better than a 12100 from what I remember seeing
where i am both are the same price and they are only 2 percent perf dif
tru
whats the best performance for money cpu rn
oh apparently my flash drive is 114gb large
thats a really odd size
its probably 128 and some of it died
it says 44.8gb free of 114gb
cool
anyways how do i format it to fat32
intel will prolly change sockets next gen right
pc > management > Disk Management
• In Windows 10, go to This PC > Manage > Disk Management.
• Locate and right-click on your USB flash drive or external hard drive, select "Format".
• Set the USB file system to FAT32, tick "Perform a quick format" and click "OK" to confirm.
windows wont format anything over 32GBs to FAT32,
since when
you are gonna need something like FAT 32 Format.
never did when i was going through the process of Wii Homebrew.
fat ass gpu
that thing looks sick
its sick as hell yeah
what is it
my anime gpu
the model bruv
AMD RX 6800
$460

shut
shut what im not speaking 😛
decent price
Tbh tho how long does an am5 pc take to boot now
do you live in hell or on the moon?

I'll trade you a tuk tuk for 6800xt
nah
that is DEAD
Rip crossfire 😩
Yeah India prices for pc parts is horrendous
"The 16:9 widescreen monitor is the most popular choice for several excellent reasons. It’s best for work because the wide profile allows you to keep more than one window open at a time to work with spreadsheets, web applications, video editing, and design apps. It’s best for play, too, because it fits the 16:9 format that most TV shows and movies are shot in."
I had to build a PC for my grandparents in india a while ago and prices were so bad
yea
The results are in. Survey says that was a lie. Devs are killing 21:9 😫
how much is 10100 for yall
movies are not shot in 16:9. Not at all.
How much is a 4090 in india?
75
Confused
I live in the USA
10100F is $75 here
movies are primarily shot in wider than 16:9 - although not as wide as 21:9
that page is absolute garbage, written by an idiot
thats right. they are filmed in 4:3 and stretched to hide the fact the Actors are stickmen
some vendors offer that price here
Was speaking about games. 21:9 is a dead thing now
whats 11900k for yall
huh? how
Wat
You make no sense.
720p is dead
close to 500 for us here
Ultrawides are largely unsupported by devs now and have been for some time. This isn't news.
"by devs"
Uw is good for driving games
The fact flawless wide-screen exists kind of backs this up
Because they shouldn't NEED to be supported unless the devs are stupid
It shouldn't exist
I mean, I had an ultrawide for ages, it was fine...
Games should just scale
more and more UW monitors come out every day
Some games have black blocks on the sides
who wants to help me design my new setup
Unless the dev is stupid and makes it only work on 16:9
fuck ultrawide. VR for sim racing
'just scale' isn't what you want all the time - the HUD may need to change.
that works too
I'm not sure where you get your info Bob, but I just got rid of my ultrawide for a 4k normal aspect for a good reason
Loved the ultrawide for what it was worth
I meant at the bare minimum
no. its better
guys im a developer it can be really hard sometimes to support other stuff, and scaling hud is a pain
Japanese pc porting studios be like
what if ur sister creeps up on you and u accidentally break her front teeth while using ur handbrake
... from the fact that all the new monitors that just got announced at CES were UW?
Ultrawide support is dwindling and it kind or makes sense
SOMETIMES
Existence of the hardware != fool proof software support
just get two borderless monitors
that way devs cant screw u over
obviously, but wtf "dwindling" support.
afk
her fault cause she didnt give propper space for a VR User
IIRC all the games I played worked well.
lmfaooooo
Koei tecmo be like lets make a port in like 2016 that only works in 720p
Bob, the ultrawide community is salty by the fact a lot of games are lacking ultrawide support these days. Some come with black boxes and it makes sense. It's easier to dev 4:3 or 16:9.
The majority is not 21:9
4:3? Literally nobody is using 4:3
Bob wth man lol
4:3 is this 1995?
You realize that if a game doesn't work in 21:9 it usually doesn't work in 4:3 as well?
you can barely even buy a 4:3
no. not true
dude I don't care about your jank ass antique shit
Bob is spicy
But it doesn't negate the fact ultrawide is not gaining support anytime soon
never said it was me. some use a CRT still
'some' == sweet fuck all
effectively zero.
yeah but its still a few
statistically, it's none.
With some edge cases almost all of my steam library works in 21:9
Why do ppl always change my name
nobody, at all, is testing their stuff for 4:3
And I have almost 800 games
nobody can change names here
business i guess if they are using old tech
no business is using tech that old.
some just choose a CRT.
True but that is a few titles less than before, and even if they work doesn't mean they work well. You should know this. Sometimes huds didn't show up right, etc. Don't get me wrong, I loved ultrawides
Guys help meeeee
Producers often use it
You realize that there are businesses who have server 2003 still in production
That's different, that's a specific choice

and they still have LCDs 🙂
Airlines still employ assembly
and banks still have fortran and z series
That's different
And the world goes round
when i worked at thrift store in 2020 our security system monitor was a crt
React OS
but even the built in systems in furniture etc with CRTs has been replaced
I mean refusing to upgrade from xp like a lot of places do is the same thing is it not?
Still using assembly, etc.
still, not exactly using it on a computer.
I'm actually gaming on a win 7 box running lga 775 and a 4090
my points is - it is not worth giving a single shit about people who use CRTs on a computer, unless you are doing a very very very very very niche thing.
Because they said pour your money into gfx
Don't hate on crts. I will rock a trinitron all damn day
I'm not, I'm stating facts about the number of users
Is anyone here who knows a bit about ips displays, i just have a quick doubt
Idk my ips was great although it was a flagship
I was talking about it in the context of a laptop
just ask the question
How much screen bleeding is Comman in ips?
I just bought a new laptop and i don't know if it's bleed is a big issue or not
Ips = internal piece of s***..... nah, jk they're great
https://www.militaryaerospace.com/communications/article/16713721/navy-looks-to-argon-corp-to-provide-flatpanel-sonar-displays-to-replace-crts-aboard-submarines shit it took up to 2015 to go to LCD in some US subs
If you're asking us this then it probably is
well? what one
Where can I send a video
Are you using it at it's native res and refresh rate?
It's small but i don't know if it's a issue or just a normal thing
Are your color depth settings correct
yeah but there's a good reason for that - the sonar/CRTs integrate very tightly
Native
there's bad and good IPS displays, my advice would be to check the brightness
Is it a gaming laptop?
just tell us what laptop. some have bleed issues some dont. its a model by model basis
I haven't changed anything
It's Lenovo IdeaPad gaming 3
If it's not a gaming or high end laptop, they almost always skimp on the display
Specs -
R7 5gen
Rtx 3050
I have no problems with my 3.5k OLED on my XPS13 😄
Just return it man. I have an Alienware with a 1070 in it and it doesn't bleed or ghost
there we go
bro my gaming laptop display is ass. Has spiderweb dead pixels
https://www.aviationtoday.com/2020/03/04/bombardier-crj-gets-new-crt-lcd-cockpit-display-upgrade-tfd-4000/ Canadair Regional Jet upgraded in 2020
It's up to then to put a good panel it in. Nothing you can do
imo brightness matters more than anything on a laptop display (and is also often where OEMs cheap out)
crts really are fading away
Can some of you guys hop on #tech-chat-2 so i can share some videos
I don't need this negativity in my life
makes sense considering how chonky and expensive they were
But their brightness can still be seen
Honestly I gifted my gf a crt and that did not go well
Should have seen that coming considering she doesn't own a pc
well when the bulb goes out they'll literally fade away
I have sent videos of it on #tech-chat-2 please if anyone can check it and maybe help
I mean, you can?
but it wouldn't do anything
no its too far away i cant make it
@smoky wadi there's not much that pisses me off more than bleeding. I'd return it
Exactly! Crt is king
obviously
Can you just check it out?
The video
I did
why
But u even said the video was bad
you can run a magnet over it and it does things
It's not a matter of do we like it. Do you like it?
interlaced
I don't like it and wouldn't own it
what if they didnt stop making and refining crts what kind of beast would we have today 4k 360hz?
1080i is the superior resolution
They already did 4k
I think you are right
Crts were the original 4k
who would want interlaced
But they were stomped on like some worthless garbage
idk. its an Electron gun i dunno how fast they would have gotten
Bro said idk how fast electron guns would get
well it would have been technically possible to use multiple electron guns
Fun fact they did have motion ghosting issues which was solved using a BFI of sorts
Let's face it folks. We regressed when we deprecated the CRT
Hi is it okay to ask for suggestion about NVME brand?
We have failed as a society
like ... which brand to avoid for NVME storage?
Ppl will fight me on this, but I bought optane m.2s in 2023
i don't think there is any, unless if you couldn't recognize it
yes
generally they're all sourcing the same components
okay and i heard my friend saying about NV1 NV2 stuff .... what's the different?
Look for the rating which dictates their expected lifespan. Also look at reviews to see if there are failures
i only know the name NVME is better than SATA SSD
new to NVME stuff, never install one before too
and yes my MOBO have NVME slot
but what does NV1 or NV2 means here?
there's different generations of NVME that each have increased speeds (honestly anything gen 3 or higher is fine for most people), but really what you're getting is much lower latency because the drive is physically closer to your CPU
Not really
but can support on all MOBO as long got the slot?
ish, it's really just increases in bandwidth as new PCIE standards are rolled out
my MOBO name is MSI B660M-A
It's that it's using a pcie connection and not sata
So it's not that it's physically closer, it's that it's using a more direct path to the cpu
well it's both
Not really
You can attach an nvme drive on an extension and it'll perform essentially the same
There have been historical compatibility issues with nvmes Even on latest hardware
physical distance does matter a lot, that's why the SSD controller for apple silicon macs are integrated directly into the SoC
So i should always search for NV2?
Something to be cognizant of
The physicality of it being closer is imperceptible to a human.
to a human, yes, but to a CPU, it can matter a lot
Nope
Not in this scenario
it does though
But, but it's 0.04 nanoseconds faster if it's closer!! /s
It just doesn't matter here
The sata controller abstracts the process and adds an additional instruction set which, with the advent of solid state, is very much perceptible. Not so much with HDDs
that genuinely would matter a lot
particularly if you're using an SSD for caching files and swap memory, physical distance does matter
Just get something you can return if it doesn't work. Skip used unless it's a great deal
I've heard of more m.2 compatability issues than I care to
i have no idea what are those meant
NV1 NV2? now M.2?
just make sure your motherboard specifically states support for that generation of NVME (or higher)
should be fine
Nv1 is likely your motherboards term for slot 1? I'm guessing?
I can't post picture here? RIP
M.2 is the form factor. The connector if you will which is just repinned pci-e in a small package
The only nv1 and Nv2 that I know about is the Kingston nv1/2 nvme drives
this my MOBO https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-B660M-A-WIFI
ah ya that's my friend recommend me
the worst drives known to man
that's a B660, so you'll get support for at least gen 4 drives (I'm pretty sure gen 5 too?)
Awh ...
@vapid smelt wanna know my dream car
KINGSTON NV2 M.2 2280 NVME SSD 2TB
Kingston kc3000 is in my living room. Uses the fastest phision controller. Will let you know what I find
another he recommend is TRANSCEND M.2 MTE220S?
But idk I wouldn't go nv2
8K Windows with no scaling
.... what
says it's gen 4 on the website
doubt you'll have compatibility issues
u mean the NVME? or my MOBO?
the SSD
gen 4 drives with gen 3 speeds
yeah fr
yeah, but it costs less than a lot of gen 3
No one even needs anything above a gen 1 ssd
Unless you get fast random reads. I love optane
well I'd like faster reads than that
Unless you're moving files it's kinda imperceptible. A few seconds of difference
i mean thats cool but ur talking to someone whos asking what a mobo is
hard avoid NV1
https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/kingston-nv2-ssd it also sucks tho
But random reads. Those are perceptible
At the very least A2000 or the revised KC2000 and above
He might be on a budget
Cost
I got my 1tb a2k for 60usd.
yeah, so if it's just for games or something
they make a compelling point
i wouldnt trust this coopatroopa is a liar and a scammer he scammed me
if NVME with DRM will be more expensive?
A2k is around the perf of the original 970 evo soo
you're back?
DRM and Dram are diff btw
ur asking questions that dont matter
and generally yes
at least it has DRAM
<@&750150305383186585>
owh okay
Dram isn't as important with nvme when it supports HMB like SN550
what's DRAM again?
Dynamic Random Access memory
starminor more like starmajor
Honestly I haven't noticed enough of a difference upgrading to 2 ssd and now 1 nvme generation to say it's worth investing in top solid state...except optane
basically the super speedy cache between the NAND flash on your SSD and the controller
SLC cache is sth else
i see okay so
Cache money $$$$
when searching for NVME
Dram basically holds the table of contents for the drive
damn that power consumption nearly a 990 pro
i should look for DRAM available?
allows the controller to know where to find the data
I would not buy an SSD without DRAM
It's a 50 dollar nvme guys
that's about as much as a celeron processor
The guy is on a budget
Huh? but i wanna install my OS in there
sn570 500gb
nvme SSDs typically dont need dram nowadays. HMB does the job okay
but HMB allows the drive to use system memory which is a bit slower but makes the drive a lot more usable
if you dont get atleast 2tb of ssd storage your selling yourself short
get outta here
32 dollars
512gb for your OS at minimum
the sn570 500gb is 43 dollars
no DRAM = generally much higher latency and worse performance overall because the SSD can't cache files
But I filled up 3.5tb in games so quickly
yeah typically 2tb is just enough to barely get by, ive got 10tb of ssd and anything less is obsolete
funnily some DRAMless SSDs are still faster than hard drives, but only by a little
drives using a portion of TLC/QLC as an SLC cache is not the same as dram. Dram holds the index for the drive so the controller knows where is what. SLC cache is what you're talking about
but you see
and most drives have that cache
fair
just get a WD SN570 and don't think about it again
but if there's no DRAM then it doesn't know where the files are
usually my internet is fast enough that I dont need to have all my games downloaded
Or if you can find one for cheaper, Kingston A2000
Nv1 more like never buy 1 amirite
@lilac sage unless your internet is 1000mbps like me this is innaccurate
it does, but it uses the much slower nand flash which causes more wear on the flash and just ends up being slower
My friend, spend your money towards a better controller and nand nvme. Samsung is generally good
mp33 pro is only 2 bucks more
I own like 2-3 games that are 90GB or above so yes it can apply
NVME also made it possible to use system memory which is much faster than the nand itself, and serve the same purpose as if it had its own.
interesting
true
nv2 goes on sale for sub $100, though, iirc
that's HMB
No
I also dont own alot of games
Nv2 can be had for 50 on a site I just saw
1tb prob
bro why dont you have a lot of games?
NV2 more like never 2 great amirite
ive got 47 in my steam library
Im content with playing a few
its enjoyable
ssd's have gotten way cheaper though
if I can give my input in terms of nvme, I suggest the p5 plus. It's $150/2tb on Amazon when it's on sale.
Ssds are a good move for the average person. You can't tell a big difference
Kc3000 is a great nvme
that's good too
the only good NVME ssds are samsung ones stop buying cheap garbage that breaks 2 months later.
kingston KC series is pretty awesome... but expensive
nah
yah
source?
if ssds broke in two months it would be within the warranty period
They're all based off of one of like 2 manufacturing plants. They just rebrand and use different firmware
source is samsung is the best
therefore it wouldnt ever be profitable to sell them
Or combine different nand with different controllers
ok this is wrong completely
<@&750150305383186585>s I can't ping @alpine gale @tender glade help
Its phision, hynix, what else
Oh shit the ping does work lol
...
Samsung makes their own If I recall
you don't need to ping
i already did for calling coopa a scammer
my teamgroup SSD has been going strong for 2+ years
you don't just call people scammers
cant really ping mods and report ppl for being dumb. being dumb is not against the rules
Most are using using the same parts man what do you mean
according to gamer network 2022 gaming the 980 pro is the best ssd
so just get the 990
it's giving false info despite being told not to do so.
990 is way overpriced
blatant trolling
malicious compliance
against one of the rules IDR
that guy trolled earlier
Samsung ssds earned their reliability and now you pay for it
im not following this convo wtf is going on
Shoe, chicken
"Samsung is the best"-Linus Torvalds
i dont think i trolled i think i presented opinions you guys didnt like at all and u got mad about it
Basically he's trolling giving false info to someone who's already confused about SSD choices
This chat hasn't helped the nvme dude at all
who
He's sitting here like ???
i mean poor guy cant tel lthe difference between a fact and an opinion. you gotta give him a break
Thecoolestlad
so im wrong to say that a 980 pro is a good ssd
that guy's on a budget
it's good, SN850x is better
wtf how is having an opinion scamming lmao
#public-chat message no this is why ur wrong
factually if every ssd broke in 2 months they would just get RMAed
get a sn570
just point out the fault and we learn lmao
well i didnt know he was on a tight budget jesus
good for you
it doesn't matter what budget you're on
makes no sense to buy for consumers
Because yall won't chill
uh yes it does
how about this model guys TRANSCEND M.2 MTE220S?
the 990 is the best ssd why wouldnt you want it
i recommend the sn570
I mean if ur not on a tight budget optane is just faster than the 990
because optane is faster
Ask me about my optanes
optane is outdated
Il wait
Oh boy breathes in
is pricy in my country
C8H18 is my favorite octane
but he i3 13100 doesnt support optane
and also you cant just buy an optane
outdated by age or by speed?
Random reads are still not bested therefore optane is the fastest in 2023
optane is still the fastest
outdated by its not samsung and samsung is really the only good brand
I just bought an optane for $400 1tb. Works with me m.2
dont brag about getting scammed for an optane lmao
when did you buy it?
I bought 2 and using it with latest gen hw so what do u mean
what country?
Last week
why do servers/super computers use optane over samsung drives?
for 400?!
They went on sale ya weenie
I assume its because they know something about pc parts
Newegg
you cant even buy optanes u can only buy second hand
?!?!
bro wut
Tf link?
if its the fastest it really doesnt matter
someones sticky little fingers were all over it
malaysia
if that prevents you from having the fastest thing then you just lost out over something trivial
💀
SSD is solid state drive. optane is that as well
its legit
quite literally made by intel
sure but optane is a handme down product
ur just malding cuz samsung isnt the fastest
Seems like a scam (ironic). Check reviews. Get yours off of newegg
for Controller, WD and samsung have their own controllers, otherwise the market is dominated by Silicon motion (SMI) and Phison, but Marvell and Realtek are still a thing.
For Nand... there's a lot of them. Micron/Elpida, Hynix, Kioxia/toshiba, Samsung, Intel, Sandisk.
Obviously more rare brands exist in both spaces but these are who dominates the space
bad take
and even if it is faster the difference is small
SATA Sucks i wish i had NVME
fastest is still fastest
Buying anything off of Amazon is mad sketch now
I thought we werent on a tight budget anyway
the worst price to performance
well i refuse to buy pre owned garbage that can break
Ah yes. pay for the brand
well then youll just be 2nd place. and thats okay
The homie who started this discussion was recommended two $50 nvmes and seemed on a tight budget. Now we're onto optanes lmao
but maybe dont say samsung 990 is the fastest
actually im like 90th place
pc parts dont really wear like vehicles
especially when ur already antagonizing people
I'll pick your pc parts
in random yes, sequential I believe both Hynix P41 and SN850x are faster
yeah see
meanwhile my cheapo ass CX2 is still 100% after a month
Optanes can't do sequential but who cares random does 90% of your reads
but i dont want a 990 anyways its price gouged
which is where SN850x comes into play
They are still fast just not 7gb/s fast but like who cares
it's sm cheaper than 990 pro it's kinda funny
this chat making my brain feel like jelly
and is my motherboard obsolete its a b550
yes
massive L i have a x570
thank god i needed a reason to upgrade
I'm running a 4090 on an LGA775 platform. Don't let them tell you that
Wow that's awful.
