It's the one that has foldable bearing holder
@near nymph Wait there's two version, Flashforge lite and Flashforge Pro, which is actually better?
given the naming scheme i'd say pro
you guys ever feel like all your friends and slowly distancing themselves from you

whats you opinion on that aldonist. how do u deal with it
i listen to fatboy slim
sleep with them
there's also Dreamer NX
shit lot of Flashforge 3D printer to choose for
most companies do
no way the ryzen 9 7900x has better graphics then my DISCRETE GPU
what is your DISCRETE GPU because your DISCRETE GPU could just be bad
There is something wrong with my heart
Ok shit, two 3D printers to choose for
Adventurer 3 Pro and Dreamer NX
Creator Pro is a nice printer... I usually do Creator 3 or Creator 3 Pro
mine too unironically
MY DISCRETE GPU is the RX 580
DISCRETE GPUs should only be used to plug in extra monitors
How about dreamer NX?
Shouldn't be worse than the igpu.
a DISCRETE gpu is something that plugs in the pcie thing and is not an igpu right
WHAT GPU IS IT
MY DISCRETE GPU is the RX 580
YOUR SETTINGS ARE BAD
@graceful burrow blind man
its just so funny i wanted to see it twice kek
7900 XT(X)
THAT'S A GPU

wait
its not i scrolled down
Wait dreamer NX is kinda shit than Creator Pro
3d printers are useless just melt and place the plastic by hand
true
OOPS I DIdnt see that
I mean it.

MAYBE I dont even need to buy a GPU :sadge:
XD
According to some Reddit threads Passmark seems to be as reliable as UBM. So yeah wouldn't trust them to begin with. Big chunk of salt needed. a rx580 almost definitely is a better GPU than the igpu in a 7900x.
damn
whats a good alternative
Actual reviews π¦
Since when where synthetic benchmarks that rely on user scores only ever reliable...
are there good ways to compare gpu to gpu ?
You guys can't escape rl on discord
Think I need a new case
rocket league?
Lol
Cuz my gpu don't fit normally so installed with vertic mount but it's too close to glass it has not much room to breathe and getting 84 degrees with 103 junction temp
Think I need to buy bigger case
i cant tell if your joking
For 7900xt
rip π’
Neither can I xD
Like would bad airflow cause gpu to get that hot
if its basically touching the wall then prolly
Very simple check. Remove the side panel and see if temps improve.
Should tell you if your card has enough room to breath or not.
... and even longer here.
Okay
Cuz I dont think 100 degree junction temp is normal
Was playing witcher 3
7900xt xfx card
did you know that when leaded fuel was banned in the us crime rates fell
https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/22650920/leaded-gasoline-eradicated-public-health#:~:text=The EPA estimates that the,Crime rates dropped%2C too.
when ?
it has very good quests and also gwent
Yes, I also know that it correlates with other stuff, but basically the boomers are all lead poisoned
yeah lol l ratio
my biggest fear is that i get lead poisining i think its even a big phobia
im so afraid of thermal paste lol
@near nymph I need you to conclude it for me, I've chosen two but different price high or low
Flashforge Creator Pro and Adventurer 3 Pro
86
Just stop eating it. Or just use gloves.
but it tastes soo goood
we went to 96
before it stopped showing up at pumps
the ban of the sale of cars that used unleaded was in 1975
so a leeway period of 21 years
Creator Pro is nice for dual extrusion
probably dual extrusion is just too enough
Lol
I wonder how much I get the Creator Pro for... For resell
I'm a flashforge distributor
Dunno.
No, 86 for cars, 02 for pumps
but why adventurer 3 Pro is much expensive than Creator Pro or why Creator Pro is so cheap for dual extrusion?
ah
better filament compatibility?
lead poising momingt
Just go for the Creator Pro
Adventure 3 sucks
My first car was an 81 Carby leaded manual rwd live axle Mazda 626 coupe.
really? just how?
oof leadent posing
it's a pro version
Just don't
you shouoldve gotted a holden
it made fun of him
oh
Shouldve I gottened one!?
No... It's just a bad printer for personal use. It's good for educational use
eyeh tpying is my experti
Y tho
up the aussies
I'll go for Creator Pro thanks
Why does microsoft edge show it has 5 tasks running in task manager when its never even actually open? Windows 10
background tasks
For what
updating and whatnot
I never even open microsoft exge
so
Edge. I use firefox
it's a windows program on windows
How do i get rid of it
you dont
you'll break your OS if you do
it's used for more than just a browser within windows
Edge actually works really well on Linux, they have native release
Whats it used for
According to the Department of Justice, it's used for illegal product tying. According to Bill Gates, it's an integral and inseparable part of the core Operating System
All sorts of windows apps use it by default with no way to change it. Even if youve never opened edge, Microsoft calls an app instead of just connecting one app to the internet. Potentially illegal as flynn says but its only illegal if its enforced
So in other words windows is ass
i been sayin
So in other other words, install linux mint and ditch windows
I wouldn't recommend ditching windows all together unless your super fluent in linux
Why
Significantly less support. Its getting better but start in a vm, then maybe dual boot before going all in
What would you use
My go to is Ubuntu
i use kubuntu for KDE
I use Ubuntu on WSL2
Why ubuntu
embrace extend extinguish
Arch! Mint doesn't even install correct driver's, ik cuz I get asked "why is my game lagging on mint, Linux is so shit"
Or just get a hypervisor like unraid and virtualize everything. Then you can distro hop all you want
the most popular, ergo the most information available when you need help
I heard the opposite
I hate Ubuntu with a passion xD it's literally more work to make everything work correctly
You can use arch, but personally i prefer using my hardware over troubleshooting 24/7
I fundamentally believe the choice between distros does not matter
Linux looks cool
The community (mostly) on the other hand
Cuz Arch doesn't install anything, pacman -S nvidia, done
distros are basically just a version of the kernel, a package manager, and a desktop environment
@full fossil iirc the driver issues are related to nvidia
I have all amd
Honestly Iβll use anything but mac os, and thatβs only because I have no fucking idea how to use it. I spent a half hour trying to copy a file to a drive once and it left a bad taste in my mouth π
I find modern macOS offensive to my sensibilities, it's trying too hard to erase my control over my computer
Apple makes it harder with every yearly update to see and change how parts of macOS "work"
I need to get around to getting either a hackintosh or old mac just for the sake of being familiar with it. Helps me seem like i know what im doing and im not just some "apple bad" IT guy
There is a fix, Nvidia works fine too on debian based, but wtf is the point of making "ez to use" distro If you need to install it manually, might as well learn how to do everything else manually lol
Iβve watched my partner use it and I genuinely think my issue is itβs too fucking easy to use and I want the struggle
Isnt it nvidias fault for not supporting linux? Not the os itself?
Yes
So then why blame the os? XD
why not just get the cheaper M1 Mac Mini?
Well I mean linux also has do deal with distros
I blame distros tbh
It is os fault cuz it's super easy fix, but os refused to implement, only Manjaro and pop os fixed that
Because its like $500 more then i care to spend on it right now. Not that big a priority
Ive got a decent condition iphone 7 that keeps me familiar enough with current ios that ill buy one if a deal pops up while i have the money, but if i dont get one oh well. Thats what vms are for
Sleep well my dear iphone 7 π finally dropped support
I had minor interest in Linux on AArch64 when I was still tinkering with my Pi 3B, but with the lack of consistent bootloaders between ARM SoCs I don't see how Windows is going to bridge that transition, let alone Linux
way more excited for RISC-V
What are you on about?
RiscV seems like it could be cool. Im not smart enough to jump in early though.
Linux tends to need a lot of custom distro images for different ARM hardware, because they don't have a consistent bootloader
those change based on the SoC designer
RiscV is way above my head
There are only few bootloader, grub and some other ones xd idk what you mean
a primary issue being that everyone who gets into Linux wants to package up existing applications and make a new distro, rather than contribute to existing distros
https://manjaro.org/download/ look at the number of different device-specific images for Manjaro if you select ARM
Most people don't understand why or what a distribution of Linux really is
So what though?
These are not hand built. It's neither here nor there.
I think there's a lot of young people who see making a new distro of linux as a sort of way to get famous fast in the linux community, but really, unless you are making me Alpine but with systemd - there's isn't a lot of need for a new distro
many of the on-die components on various ARM SoCs, such as the Mali GPU, VPU, and other DSPs require non-free, closed source userspace blobs and firmware, which are only compatible with a small range of Linux kernel versions
It's Manjaro fault for not making installer that would detect and download correct packages for the device, not Linux problem, people are just really shit at making useful software
these kernel versions are often years behind mainline linux
Which is why dkms wrappers exist.
most of them have boot processes that are proprietary, with hardware on non-discoverable buses
that means Broadcom's boot process is different from Allwinners, etc.
Yes, and it isn't ideal, but what's the point?
and it can even change between SoCs within a single company
Most people, as a rule, don't install an OS, ever.
I'd suggest trying Linkedin
the point is that x86 has UEFI/BIOS and PCIe to standardize all that, which makes device support trivial for an OS
if Windows transitions to ARM, and each OEM is using SoCs with different boot processes, do you understand the absolute pain in the ass it will be for Microsoft to ensure OEMs image their PCs with the correct, SoC-matched OS image?
windows had arm version for years btw, and it sucks :V
cave people
I installed my first OS when I was 7
I installed Windows Vista Ultimate in a VM on my first-gen MacBook Pro
i only started pc stuff when o was 11 xd and coding only when i was 18
which doesn't change what he said π Most people don't ever install an operating system
most people buy a laptop or PC with an OS pre-installed, use it until it dies, then throw it away and buy a new one with a pre-installed OS
I'm only a hobby coder now, switched out of Comp Sci after my first year at uni
but that doesn't answer what I said, where it becomes a giant problem for system integrators and OEMs?
'sup goofy
the people who SELL you your PC install OSes every single day
and they aren't "most people"
and also, they don't, lol
most likely they have automation that just throws an image on a hard disk, there isn't a line of techs manually installing that OS
all the current ARM stuff is embedded. This isn't rocket surgery to fix.
these are the same people who use instagram and probably think sun spins around earth xD
but as I said, people buy devices with OSes pre-installed
no they don't.
I disagree. There are people who are very smart and educated, but they just aren't into technology
I have an aunt who is a doctor, she is super smart - just not for technology
ehhhh, I expect a fucking minimum. It's 2023. Everything is IT.
I couldn't run my own doctor's practice
nahh my grandma still uses her lil nokia from 20 years ago and she's perfectly fine without knowing how to install OS
So? They can use a computer just fine. But why learn to install an OS if you can just buy one pre-installed?
You dont gotta build a pc. You do, however, need to know what someone says when they say "rename a file" or "go download x from this website"
you understand that there's a difference between an OEM having a Windows 11 Home image and a Windows 11 Pro image on x86, and for ARM needing to have an image for every SoC/GPU/hardware variation they have in a product, and having a system to ensure the right image out of those 20 permutations is flashed on the right assembly line
nope, I asked guy who sells pcs every day to give me powercord and he gave me a charger...
that was fun
I can change a starter or alternator in my car after watching a youtube video - but rebuilding my engine is a bit outside of my expertise. Doesn't mean I'm dumb, just that I have skills in some areas, and not all of them
and I'm more likely to buy a new car, then trying to build one from scratch
maybe its fine for now, but not being even a bit in tech later would be considered a disability for sure xD
wut
into how many parts?
kekw I do
as was previously mentioned - there's a difference between being able to understand things like "download a file" or "copy this file" and building your own PC from scratch and installing an operating system
Mhmm... Politics?
it's not like people have never installed OSes before
again, what was said was most people
it was only like 10 years ago that people stopped buying their OS in a box at Best Buy or the Apple Store
millions of people bought Windows 95 and 98 and so forth and installed and upgraded their own computers
I can rebuild my engine, my PC, my software, build custom electronics, design a crane, paint a wall, drive a car, parent a child, make a video, learn, teach, take instruction, give instruction, lead, follow....
people bought Mac OS X Leopard at the Apple Store
10 years? longer than that my friend.
the Microsoft Store literally sold boxed copies of Windows 8
bro everyone I know just called someone technical to do it for them
theh have no idea
there's a lot of little things that you take for granted that just aren't necessary for operating a computer that you need to know to install an OS - what IP are you going to give your computer, or does it use DHCP? What is DHCP? Why is my computer name important? What is a filesystem and partitioning and why does it matter? etc
That's awesome, but you also aren't most people
People stopped buying box copies long before that. Cant you still technically get win11 boxes? So by that definition they never stopped
there's a reason title.wma is an iconic music track, it's because people installed Windows XP
oh, absolutely not
Eh, I doubt that. Everyone I knew bought a PC with windows 98 preinstalled from some company like Gateway, or something
Anyway, the point is that what you think is a dealbreaking problem, is really neither here nor there.
what did they do with their Windows 95 PCs?
in fact, apart from myself or my step-dad, I didn't know a single person that had ever installed an OS or opened their own computer, growing up
idk, I was much younger when 95 was popular π
Oh yes the anecdote that proves your point, how rare.
only to match the equal anecdote presented as fact ;)
You also have to remember - there simply weren't as many computers in those days
Same. My grandma owned the main computer i used. But she didnt know anything about it and didn't wanna learn. Any viruses were my aunt and is fault, not the 300 toolbars she installed lol
the market was predominantly enthusiasts because it was an emerging market in a sense.
bruh when someone sends message discord just scrools up to yesterday...
ik that, i just mean as long as u can use it, and just knowing super basics like whats a disk, maybe whats a partition, and how to read some terminology, so u could press next on a installer xD
its same as knowing whats a wheel and what oils u need to change, or whats a spark plug, so ur car works,
u write too fast xD
I type at a linux console all day for a living π
I love how the litmus test of computer literacy is literally going sudo apt install neofetch
I have linux but I don't actually do much with linux
I just remind myself that bash prompts exist I guess
I technically have linux. Unraid requires linux experience sometimes
Man I love anc but fuck these galaxy buds..
Dylan Araps is literally the only internet stranger that I've seen write good bash
saying bash makes me cringe though, because your shell isn't always bash
There's some people in my Bash Discord that write great bash
I have a 3070, should i buy a 1440p or 1080p monitor?
My shell is almost always bash
Plus wsl in windows. I just dont do much more linux config then i have to
1440p, you're wasting money if you're getting a 3070 and only running it in 1080p
you should buy a 1440p monitor in general
when it isn't though, things can go wrong
Meh. other shells often aren't worth it - bash is ubiquitious enough. And when I say "Bash", I mean, the binary, bash, interpreting the code
mines fish, i love it so much xP
8k
jk 1440p looks way nicer but make sure it has more than 60Hz
not just "bash" as a synonym for "any linux shell"
Okay thanks!
my laptop has a 2060 Max-Q and even I'm getting a 1440p monitor
and specifically regarding Neofetch, and it's author Dylan Araps, it's bash:
https://github.com/dylanaraps/neofetch/blob/master/neofetch#L1
oh I know that, I've just been burned π
My laptop has iris 5200 and i have 2880x1800
posix shell i think OwO
Not a fan of bourne shell
my laptop has 4000 series and 720p display
or most other shells tbh
intel hd 4000
Anyone else just having issues with galaxy buds pro 2 not charging half the time? Thats my biggest issue aside from them constantly slipping from the seal. Really miss my old airpods lmao
1366x768 the best resolution
https://www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/alienware-34-curved-qd-oled-gaming-monitor-aw3423dwf/apd/210-bfrp/monitors-monitor-accessories get this monitor it is literally the best
sh is very limited, and other shells just are missing feature or aren't ubiquitous enough. If I write something in bash, it can be run almost anywhere, and if we hire someone with linux experience, they can work with it and maintain it
nooo I cant have all eclipse stuff on screen and see code
I donβt speak canada
if I write something in KSH or CSH, only older sysadmins will be able to work with it, and likewise, only much younger people, and only some of them at that, will be familiar with ZSH, Fish, etc
it's the curved QD-OLED that LTT keeps showing in videos
I'm so sorry for your loss
but bash is common to everything, and installed by default
buy 32:9 1440p monitor
826 euro for a monitor yeah nah
and really, there's no reason for POSIX compliance in 2023, not in your shell. If it's compliant with a decent minimum bash version, you hit 90% of all major linux distros anyway that it doesn't matter
$1300 for a 1440p monitor are you fucking insane
i look at a monitor more than anywhere else, so why wouldn't i buy the best xD
That's why I got sony linkbuds S instead, a better fit and they're overall a better cross-platform package
it's 175Hz, FreeSync Premium, QD-OLED, Ultrawide
I only need it for my pixel 4
does your script use Bash 4 features or older? congrats, it will run in 90% of all linux distros that matter except base alpine
if its wideee then it makes sense
Because 1300 is more than my whole pc
noo, its samsung g9
but regular 16:9, nonono
only 90%?
it's 3440x1440p
meh, hyperbole. I could go an actually count I guess
What monitor are you looking at? The samsung G5 is max β¬350
u will make that much in a week one day xP
big boi, I want it
id figure it would be higher than 90%
Yeah I'd rather buy 3 1440p 144hz IPS displays and run them that way for $850
effectively 21.5:9
Probably not
you can use it to watch lawrence of arabia
are there even any streaming services that has IMAX/cinemascope?
Redhat, Suse, CentOS, Rocky Linux, ClearLinux, Oracle Linux - all come default with bash. We run some pfsense at work, that has a bash shell iirc. MacOS has a very old version of bash
My max budget is 300 euro idk dollars
no one uses Gentoo, Arch, Manjaro, Mint, etc. in production
Hell, Solaris 11 has bash
Arch?
Bravia Core and Disney+ have IMAX Enhanced content, but there's also content in the IMAX 1.43:1 aspect ratio on other services and on Blu-Ray
Look up an acer predator 1440p monitor there's probably a decent one for under β¬300
first thing i did in AIX and HP-UX was install Bash
I'd think twice on that one
why? Who runs Arch in prod?
The g5 is 270 euro
Arch based distros are common in prod
what? Where? What companies?
i use arch everywhere xP cuz good server setup would have at least one backup node somewhere, so it doesn't matter if something goes boom OwO
Ubuntu also uses bash by default afaik
or, i guess i should say Debian and Debian based things
oh, right. I didn't think to include it because it's my default
but you are right, I should have added that
clearlinux? is it like free from bloat or?
Debian and its derivatives encompasses a lot of stuff
it's an Intel distro
but Azure, and AWS don't even have images for Arch last I looked. Might be some third-party image repos, maybe?
the entire RHEL family is also bash, which includes Fedora
wasn't that intel's own distro that somehow ran better on AMD hardware or something?
adding emojies on my message without my permission will get punished by execution
in 10+ years, I've never heard of a company running Arch anywhere
might just be a clickbait title i remembered
probably. Last I heard, ClearLinux was optimized for Intel procs
nah i haven't seen arch used in prod either
πͺ
talked to the dude who was in charge of it, seemed like a nice guy
tried to float the idea of running it in prod, drinking our own champagne, but it didn't get much buy-in
Do companies really not use arch? God thats surprising to me
why is that surprising?
nah they use ubuntu
why would they? What does it offer over other options? Do they have paid support options?
:(
so, you made an assertion about something you didnt actually know?
most companies dont know how to even follow agile
ubuntu has a robust b2b business behind it so you actually have someone you can call and yell at when shit breaks
We are running Ubuntu LTS and Rocky Linux atm, although transitioning away from Ubuntu towards Rocky
Apparently I was mistaken.
im in this sentence, and i dont like it
better than a majority of people on the internet if you can admit that - I respect you more now :)
i use Ubuntu LTS on all my stuff, curious on what the reasoning is to move to Rocky
I'm stubborn but can admit when I'm wrong
Boss hates snap and we've been burned by cononical
like MaaS sucks butt
I guess its not THAT surprising considering all the support behind Debian but at the same time I always coined Arch as more enterprise focused
maybe proprietary stuff if they have some? idk ubuntu works great for me
is there a reason Rocky and not AlmaLinux?
but it was implemented before either of us were there
I hate Snap...
wasn't my decision, idk
snaps are weird
The idea behind snaps is fine tbh
discord too
are flatpaks any better?
one of the main reasons im using Linux instead of windows is so that i can control when updates happen
I type in terminal apk install firefox and it gives me snap version
but forcing updates with no option to allow the admins to choose when to update, and the forcing it's use for production software like MaaS is a bad move
noooo thank you
snap just updates and firefox says we need to restart, fuck you and what you are doing
also, it doesn't work with NFSv3, which is dumb
Oh yikes, I have even more reasons to avoid snap now
ye
I like Linux because fuck Microsoft sometimes
NFSv4?
I like WSL because it makes Linux safe enough for the public to use
we had a MaaS cluster at one point, which all of our VMs were dependent upon. Snap updated one of the cluster nodes, and not the other. This broke the cluster and they got out of sync - it was a mess
linux allows me to uninstall default browser
otherwise I don't think the average person should be trusted with alternative OSes
and nothing we could have done
Why even... Firefox is awesome
truthfully, Windows dominance is for the public's own good
WSL is breakage-friendly if you mess up you just start all over again
not simply. We have a SAN that allows export of the storage as NFS, but only v3, not v4
such a pain
Windows losing stability after a year pisses me off. Maybe its just me but I find Linux much more solid for long term use. Also I can do whatever the hell I want with it
ye but I want to have an option if you get me
I love WSL, makes my job so much easier
VR support needs to get a bit better on Linux though..
I use Linux because Wine has excellent backwards compatibility with Windows software, unlike Windows
fun fun
I used to love RoyalTS, but I tried it recently, and they don't support connecting to SSH through both a proxy and an ssh gateway, only either or
i'd like linux more if there were more reliable compatibility layer type solutions for creative software. Rn it's a lot more convenient for me to just run any linux stuff i want to do in WSL instead
san andreas runs like a dream
consumer OS at its core vs server OS at its core
San Andreas should be emulated in all honesty
@inner locust ooooh, you are reacting with diamonds
I was so confused, I thought someone kept reacting with like, an emote of just the world, and I was so confused as to what it meant π
no, a diamond makes a lot more sense than a random globe emote
lulw
its a chicken and egg problem with that though
nobody wants to make the layer (or native build) if nobody will use it
and because there aren't the layers (or native builds) nobody wants to use Linux
that's... a word
All of rockstars and volitions ports are hot garbage
π
btw is there any way to actually buy san andreas? other than physical copy
I dont want to play definitive hot garbage edition
Steam. Maybe on console stores? Otherwise not sure.
anyway per the previous topic - if anyone is interested in writing good bash, we have good standards and experts on the bash discord, and all our scripts pass shellcheck ;)
nope cant buy it on steam
But physical copy is best because they dont remove the copyrighted shit from those
ima just keep scripting in python
I've been watching this old PBS show on Youtube, called The Computer Chronicles, and I gotta say I'm sad i was too young to experience PCMCIA cards, expandable laptops look cool
I like Python... I hate the state of packages and dependencies in python, and having to deal with virtual environments, etc.
i have a 10 year old laptop downstairs that has a pcmcia slot, and have had many computers with the slot... never once had a card to go in the slot π
Oh god Python dependencies are pain
I have express card slot on my daily driver
physical copies still have a licence, and those licences can still be revoked
So do yβall just memorize the different languages or
try doing anything with javascript if you wanna see what dependency hell looks like
I'm working on a solution for bash at least - we are writing a library, and will package it with a script that will take your script, all the libraries it uses, and then output basically a "statically linked" copy that will be one single script with all the functions from the library you used so you don't have to distribute the library with the script
Point is with older gen games they can't remove content from physical copies
Hence emulation
programming languages? Nah. The trick is to memorize concepts
no, a good software developer (note, i didnt say coder or programmer), knows "how to program", the language is just a toolkit and most can be picked up in minutes to hours if you know "how to program"
Granted you dont get the same mods as PC but you can still manage visual overhauls
you can google syntax, but you have to understand the concepts you need to google
I just think that Linux has been catering to their core user base which is essentially programmers who also very much like to game on their machines without dual-booting. Linux is probably the opposite of a versatile well-rounded solution for something outside of the IT/Gaming space. Sure it's a self-fulfilling prophecy but that there's so little effort to try and accommodate users with more diverse needs speaks a lot for how windows and macOS have catered to more industries.
google searching actually isnt easy sometimes
right, that's what I'm saying
Google search is fucking ass these days
chatGPT is going to make google actually have to put effort into their search engine again
if you google "introspection" it's pretty unique and will often get you what you are looking for... if you know that's what you need to search for
yep, you need to know what you are looking for... and that is what you need in your head... you cant find something if you dont know the basics
bing is still weird
and not just give you 12 relevant searches then endless ads
ad
ad
ad
ad
Result that isnβt right
Result thatβs close
ad
Drop down boxes
I noticed this, pretty hilarious if I'm honest
otoh, I get annoyed when people ask "What is WSL?" and if you literally copy and paste that verbatim into Google, the top result is the answer
Also people severely underestimate the man-decades involved in windows and Mac user interface design yadda yadda
wsl is waffles lemons
Yup. I can write a lot of scripts and some code. I couldn't write an interface for them to save my life
Learn to Google, yodelo hee hoo.
making a GUI is a lot of work. Making a good GUI is even more
Dont learn to google, just use ai
I use duckduck at this point because google is insufferable with the ads
teams of 1000s of people, spending 2-3 years on a "basic" redesign that "slightly" improves workflow
Ive been messing with linux mint in a virtual machine for a few hours now to see if i like it and im not used to an OS being so snappy and responsive. Windows literally feels sluggish compared to this...
its still a chicken and egg problem
shit, even my company only have supports Linux, and im very salty about that
we support it as a runtime, our creation tools dont, so, its like, well fuck me, i wanna use linux
there was an effort to get the creation tools working on linux, keyword was
I like how its called windows subsystem for Linux even tho they give you linux on windows
UX is a profession in and of it self for a reason
Dropping the ball is also a very deliberate action
Food tastes better
which leads the software to a more niche focused usecase but again it's not that versatile in the grand scheme of things
you should never be "i wanna use linux"... thats your problem... you should always be "i want to use whatever tool will let me do the job in the best way i can do it"
in this case, not a fault of management that it got dropped, can blame them for not picking it back up though
Its a subsystem of windows that hosts Linux, but yeah
aaa whiteee get away from me
Apparently 3 year old monitors might as well be junk, according to this guy
Why is windows so bad and costs $140-200 when linux is free and better
Windows gets in my way more than Linux does. If i had the option, i would prefer to use Linux. I don't have that option and and am forced to use Windows.
That ... Isn't how things work.
Windows is literally free
Im using 12 year old monitor and I think some capacitors died, Ill check that
ads
You can use it for free
windows so bad
subjective
costs $140-200
Microsoft wants a return on investment
Windows you pay money to license and still get ads. Its funny.
yes but thats very easily fixable, as there is no company that directly decides what is developed,
people or company can develop that if they needed it, and i think people need it now more than ever, and a super user friendly linux for common user will rise xP
im not getting any further into this conversation now, some people are clearly idiots or trolls or fanboys (which is an amalgamation of troll AND idiots)
I'm convinced that in 5-10 years, Windows will be a Linux distro and Win32 will just be an API for writing software for that distro. Embrace extend extinguish
its funny that ive never once seen an ad in windows...
I dont want to see instagram and tiktok on os that I paid
like out of the box
do you not remember tiles? Candy crush and all that shit
I mean I use open shell so its a non issue for me
I got a new Samsung T7 SSD but I dunno what to put on it
win 11 in their "start menu" has random apps like instagram, disney plus, hulu, tiktok...
Your OS
Windows 10 had apps like that installed new too kek
Just turn off the smart stack, they go away
my OS is already on an NVMe SSD
This isn't new
I mean, I have a desktop and 2 laptops with windows 11, I've never had random shit installed like that
Install it again
Itβs OEM junk
And 8 before it.
are you sure it's windows and not a shitty OEM reseller doing that?
The problem here is the same problem apple vs android has though. When you say windows you primarily mean 1 or 2 os tops. when you say linux, that encompasses thousands of operating systems all with different use cases
I know but just Im sure that my thing is real and still there
Windows 98 is bullshit adware, there are ads for Warner Bros and Disney on my desktop for no fucking reason what the hell
kind of like when you buy a cheap android from ATT instead of samsung or google?
Samsung is literally one of the worst offenders for bloat
They used to be even worse, which is somehow shocking
Back in the early S series days, good fucking lord
Ive heard its gotten better but its still bad
Samsung is my favorite chaebol, if I had to let any chaebol have unilateral control over Korea it would be them
My s10 had an unbearable amount of bloat between samsung and sprint
phones used to be cheaper too... imagine the price of a phone without being subsidised by that shite samsung put on their phones..
fun fact: Samsung in Korea sells life insurance
for when your phone explodes and kills you
Everything used to be cheaper
xiaomi has tool to unlock bootloader, even tho they are chinese company, kinda weird
ok? so do ford... in most of the world... and various other insurances... its called "diversification"
I got this pixel 4 for under $200. It'll last me years, aside from the fact Verizon is fucking ASS and LOCKS THE BOOTLOADERS

literally my point about the problem with ARM SoCs
a "locked bootloader" should not exist on a general-purpose CPU
the pixel, that is heavily subsidised by one of the worlds richest companies, to make sure people buy more of their phones, so they can harvest more data from you and use that for advertising?
but you can have unlocked bootloader on arm
I mean shit the original razr was $500 and locked you into a contract
even macbooks have it
there should not even be an option to lock the bootloader
the software, the firmware and the hardware must be free
I agree with this but i have no solution :(
Its the phone that met most of my needs. USB C, water resistant, high performance, cheap, small form factor, and it has a couple neat features on top of it.
how to force companies to give me freedom
that's discussing politics unfortunately
Yes it's google, but it meets my needs (mostly)
yet you have complained about bloat and being spied on and advertised to... literally what the pixel is designed to do
Thatβs what all phones do at this point
This phone doesn't have jack shit. Google photos is ass but other than that most everything else is fine
And I didn't say anything about privacy
broo xiaomi gives me more privacy for some reason because they have that thing to unlock bootloader
Also pixel phones you can unlock the bootloader by default from google. Its just Verizon that sucks
Happened to be the model I got
google allows that?
Mhm
weird for them
Honestly it even seems somewhat encouraged in an indirect way oddly enough
Can't wait for the new internet age xP
only blink allowed
Canβt wait for the current internet system to fucking die
Uhhh that's wrong. Also, pixel 4 is ancient for phones.
Pixel 4 did just lose major update support last october
google do subsidise the pixel, or they did in the 1/2/3/4, not sure above 5 upwards... thats why they are so cheap for their spec compared to everything else around them
Priced a pixel 7? Expensive af
they have a market share now, dont need to subsidise anymore
I wish I could just like.. Build my own phone
you can but its expensive
My own specs, size, port selection whatever
Consume
Consume
Consume
Just give me an iphone 13 mini with a flat back, usb c, and a headphone jack and Iβd probably never upgrade unless it broke
hate it, even if something good comes up, I cant buy it in this forgotten country
im stuck on chinese stuff
I'd love a mini iPhone, I planned on getting the 14 mini assuming it was released and had USB C, but.. Yeah. Also jailbreaking...
Hate that I need to do that to get the features I want from my os
Apple are fucking clowns for thinking the 14 plus was a better idea than a 14 mini
USA Freedom is taking freedom from phones
I like big boi phones but I know a lot of people who hate them
Went from making the only good small phone on the market to making just another big phone
I hate that phones are getting largerm this thing konda siucks to type on compared to my iPhone se 2016, which was what I had last
LOVED that thing. Perfect size for me, and had basically everything I needed
this world doesnt need gaming phones, it needs compact ones
But I need a gaming fan for my gaming phone so I can play genshin
They're all based on very similar foundations I don't buy this argument. It's just that the weakness of how the linux market is built is that more niche purposes outside of the traditional IT realm doesn't get any attention. Also design language and UX becomes unfocused because a legion of people with very separate visions are all trying to steer the rudder.
again that is not big problem to me because I have big hands but I want them to exist
Pretty true and not true
I want my phone to be able to handle Warframe. I'm hoping this one can do it. Thats the biggest draw with performamce for me aside from longevity
ye it needs gaming phones but not just that
We need a balance betwen
Samsung with their galaxy flips have attracted a big market for that. I know a lot of especially lady friends who really like the clamshell design
Like clearly its possible to have a super small form factor high performance phone. Apple did it for years.
The flip is cool, folding tech still has so far to go though tbh
The hinge is pretty strong for the thin phone
I dont like extra steps
Galaxy flip is too TALL though
and problem with big phones is that some people cant reach other end of screen
Get a nokia then bro π
Come on people used flip phones for years without caring as long as the mechanism is robust and the screen isn't shit it's probably fine enough
Yeah the screenβs the problem innit
exactly, it'll need a few more iterations but it's getting there relatively fast
The sreen is like welded shut to the frame
fold is cool
Like is it too hard to ask for another phone like the SE, a budget high performance small form factor phone with a headphone jack and USB C? Thats literally all I ask
made in california
yes, it is, because fuck you and your reasonable wants
There's probably some market data we're not privy to that say that "sleeper" phones with great specs eat at the market share for the higher margin low-level flagships
after all the goal is to upsell you to a higher margin higher price model
preferrably the 1 TB ultra phone or pro MAX
Apple is saving money by not buying usb c and the headphone jack it's like audi buying engs
That's pretty much the dumbest take
Everything in programming is based on a similar foundation. The argument holds in the fact that by saying Linux you could be referring to android, unraid, Truenas, or the micro pc running on a factory floor. Windows is a mainly desktop OS. If you want better linux, you can go make it yourself. But noone who wants the support wants to do the work beyond their own system, which would then become a ditro in and of itself if they released their image with their own custom tweaks
Like I dont give a shit about wireless charging (this pixel 4 can't even do it lmao good job google), super high quality cameras, refresh rates higher than 60, and whatever the hell niche use case things are available. NFC I need but thats basically standard at this point
No, Apple got a % of any peripheral sold with a lightning connector so a big 3rd party lightning market was basically passive income for them.
Trying to find a $10 gadget to put in my newegg cart, any ideas? Already did a usb flash drive and mousepad
But hey they are saving money
wireless charging is nice, its the one thing id now like if my pixel 5a had, because my car has a wireless charger in it
Uhuh
Wtf?
Like id like it if it fit, my 4 HAS the capability but somewhere along the line it got broken I think software side as MANY users have this issue and so its like whatever
How is one able to swap goalpoasts from Apple to BMW who doesn't even make phones just because of their stupid take
How much do you think an USB-C port costs per phone when they already offer the port on all their ipads already
there's already supplychain established for it, they just wanted to milk the lightning connector for a bit more
Well they cost cents but when you make more the cents start to stack up
The only apple devices that dont have C are the airpods and iphones. Thats it.
So you believe the economy of scale is better on a lightning port than a usb-c port????
well then
That and they made royalties on their shitty lightning connector
With MFI certification
This thing DOESN'T have USB-C
The best solution atm is contributing to open source projects. I have a lot of just random small contributions, like adding Graylog support to syslog-ng
But these two do
Should i do 4tb to Linux mint and 8tb to windows 11 or 8tb to linux mint and 4tb to windows 11
Prob 8tb windows 11 because compatibility. You'll probably be using windows more
I wouldn't give windows any more then like 4tb of my data tops. And all of that data needs to be elsewhere too
Look myself i have a usb c samsung not an apple but for there phones it might be mote cost affective
No, lmfao
The lightning cable is literally more expensive to make than usb-c
Because remember kids, windows hates windows more then you ever will
Reflected by them being literally more expensive than most usb-c cables
MFI certification
True
I want to think ill use linux more but the reality is i probably will use windows more
The lightning cable is also more resilient than usb c tbh
The connector itself
The apple branded cables not included
How it always goes for me sadly. I have the same thoughts though
It's maybe less to make there own in the factory and not buy them
Who gives a fuck if they are if they increase the price anyway
They just want to milk the damn connector, has nothing to do with costsavings
Is there any way to de bloat windows 11 and create a local account?
Reinstall a fresh copy
Yeah the lightning connector is more robust I'll give it that, but compatibility is shit, and I have this issue where arcing causes carbon buildup on my cables
It happened with my iPod touch 6 and my SE
What in the
Whats the steps to do a local account and de bloat it man
Dude I just gave you the steps, thatβs all you have to do
Think they mean remove a load of stock apps and such
Well money that they want thats all so i think they tryna do something with the cost
Put a fresh copy of windows 11 on a usb drive and install it
Holy link length batman
You arent answering my question you are just saying install windows 11
You could debloat it manually or just do a fresh install
Whats a fresh install got to do with debloating all the pre installed microsoft bloat?
Plus they hard force an online account now. Im asking how to bypass that
Bruh
Windows is microsoft bloat
Honestly I'd recommend 10 over 11 anyway
Why
Stability is the main reason as far as im concerned, and without startallback productivity reasons because the new right click prompts are shit.
I got startallback and kinda regret it as I went back to 10 anyway
But yeah check out tiny10/tiny11
Good luck with support though if you get issues
Whats tiny10/11
Basically rebuilt windows to be as small as possible
I like 11, and WSLg is great
I thought 11 was better than 10
Im staying on 10 until they force me to damn it
I also hated the rounded borders just because it made resizing windows fucking IMPOSSIBLE
Been fine for me /shrug
It was a huge frustration I had with it. Otherwise I loved 11
Β―_(γ)_/Β―
If it weren't for that and stability I'd be using it now
Works on my machine tm

Wslg?
Stability is probably fine by now but sticking to 10 in the meantime. Much as I want that juicy terminal fully supported
I.... Haven't noticed a problem at all. You can also change it.
I didn't know this
Haven't switched to it as I can't get small taskbar to work without stuff not fitting on the screen correctly
Windows 11 now has native support for Linux GUIs (in WSL) :)
Honestly it would be fine with the rounded corners, I love how that looks but the hitbox for the resize also changed which was an issue for me
Oh nice I think I tried to get it like a month ago but it would launch just a black square lol
Works fine for me
WSLg does sound pretty amazing...
I think I was using 10 and trying some not official way to do it
Maybe after my next hardware upgrade I'll move to 11 again, see what its like
Storage is the last upgrade I need on my PC for a while
umm... the "hitbox" for resize is still a square and they're not microscopic
they're big
What about 4tb to win 11 and 4tb to linux then share the last ssd with 2tb partitions to each OS?
i think it's a placebo
It is? Maybe its just how I perceived it because I feel I have to grab the edge of the rounded bit
Boot off the ssd with 2tb for each OS sounds like a fine idea
And honestly you can probably share those other 4tb between the OSes
Just need a compatible filesystem for both (not ext4)
Thank you for your input
I have an AMD card now so I can :>
But after my storage upgrade
Doesn't windows 11 support BTRFS?
That should work
No like each one has its own ssd for the OS but then an extra ssd with 2tb partitioned to each one for extra storage on a 4tb ssd
Which amd card
RX 6700
Why would you do it that way?
To prevent windows updates from overwriting anything linux related
They wont
yay you people are still alove
Its the method they recommend to do on linux's site themselves
Thats what partitions are for lmao
So im just following instructions
I just put linix partition first and I hope that windows cant overwrite that
If windows and Linux were on the same partition... You'd have other issues
Windows can't read let alone write on a Linux one if its ext4
by default*
Yes, by default
you can install that functionality later but by default windows is pretty dumb
And even then its super hacky workarounds to get that to work
literally linux can read a bunch of file systems and windows just his ntfs and fat
I always when dual booting put both OSes on the same drive. Never had issues
same bc laptop
Windows can BOOT Linux because of the EFI partition however
But thats just how EFI works
I generally use grub but kinda prefer rEFInd
Im not very familiar with grub and systemd works very good
like why fix it if ain broken
I dont think ive used systemd. All oses ive used came with grub aside from my old arch install which I tried rEFInd on
im on arch based distros
I wanted to try something debian based
but all package managers with gui are just crap
and that makes me sad
Oh I just.. Use apt
Meh. Its how I learned and I like it
ye and I respect that
but I want to use gui
I tried bunch of them
pop shop doesnt have every package listed, discover loves to fail on simple tasks and wont detect every flatpak
I think I liked KDEs package manager most, not that ive used many
I tried updating system using discover
it failed
I typed cmd in terminal and it worked

only pamac is good.... why :(
Thats just cause I dont usually use arch based distros. Debian is easier for me
I dont understand pacman
Who is Olivia | Hodmex Team?
It dumb
Arch was nice when I used it, but audio was fucking impossible for me
samee
I couldn't figure how to manage that right at all
i fixed it somehow
black magic
It kept defaulting to my rift S
mine defaulted to broken laptop mic
that was fun
it also likes to randomly switch it
and then I have to restart whole system
Amd is finally getting laptops with full amd cpu and gpu and they actually perform really damn good
Thinking about getting one for a work laptop
omg
What
Which one
.
The only one i see so far is the alienware m17 r5
oh its not that expensive actually, if it preforms good
oh wait I selected wrong thing
$1500-2500 depending on specs
Oh 1400
ye
God thats dumb
base config with nvidia card
Notebookcheck gave it an overall score of 86/100
3050
It has really good reviews too and dell didnt do stupid dell stuff on it
i hate motherboard prices
Yeah fuck that
I hate bread prices
this makes 400$ new pc basically impossible
too expensive here
oh same. I have to pay 3 dollars
yup exactly
Don't get new. Buy last gen, much better prices and used market is a great outlet
$1400 with apple gets you a macbook with an i5 processor and onboard graphics with 8gb ram and 128gb of storage

but they aren't though. The motherboards are shockingly expensive
I'd prefer apple honestly, they have MAJOR optimizations that make even 8gb worth it
the cheapest amd board is 80 dollars new. Looking at used ur lucky to find something cheaper.
B450 rather than B550
Fair I guess
does someone want to buy crappy am3 board?
gotta lay low for a bit π΅οΈββοΈ
jk its probably like 5 dollars or smth
Origin, my first PC cost $200. No GPU but really damn good
used is a shitshow. I luckily found a working b450 for.... 5 dollars less than new
I disagree. Every macbook i handled felt sluggish and slow, like my work computers at work. Click one thing wait forever for it to load
Even the new ones feel slow to me compared to what im used to
my local used market is terrible. Facebook marketplace is all stuff that expensive. :c
ssd made 2011 macbook pro feel snappy, but still it has 10.13 macos so bunch of software doesnt want to work
never buy used mobo if new ones are avalibile
mobos die quicker than cpus
i'm saying you can't buy used at all
new is cheaper
Used mobos are fine. Don't get used storage or PSUs though
well then dont buy from that seller
simple as that
rob then ig
people are high on the good stuff to think that their 4-5 year old motherboard is worth 90 dollars.
comedians
I bought a used hard drive one time and the guy didnt wipe it and the stuff i found was disturbing
Origins mobo is kinda fucked actually, but that only happened after installing the GPU. I still dont know the cause
currently x299 mobos are cheaper than x99 on used market
I hate that, stupid third gen laptop cpu is 50 dollars on used market...
tbh it makes sense doe
since you can get super cheap powerfull 2011v3 xeon on ebay
i told my friends who needed something for 400-500 dollars. Go buy a playstation at best buy
playstation doesnt support office :((((
ye, kinda
Ps2 with the linux disk and memory card supports office
you can make decent build for 500

but its not cheap :(
Ps2 is like 20 bucks linux disk is like 15 bucks
Memory card is like a buck. Thats stupid cheap
Where is here
eastern europe
run linux vps and putty into it to use office
Do you have a ps5
Raspberry pie?
oh wait
yeah
countries are dumb concept created by human fear
they are wayy cheaper now
like 50 dollars
niceee
skill issue
one small problem
they arent avalibile
buy pi zero or whatever its name is
yeah i can make an apu build and that's it. Still got shittastic pc case but it does the job
are they ?
im gonna capture you in a jar and put you outside
unfortunately, I'll have you killed with venom before you even try (look behind you)

i'd to live where you at then
I got a used 5700xt 8700 32gb ram for 500
omg he escaped gulag
you can't find shit here
oh shit you cluthed the gulag, gg
lol
lmao
used market around me is really plentiful
and i have access to private forum sales
whatcho doin bro
bro I have to travel to another country to buy cheaper stuff
its not that far but still
Extremely rare american w
lol
i can cross 4 countries in less than 4 hours
american?
Electronics are cheap here (relatively)
cheapest motherboard i could find was a 185 dollar B550 aorus master
A320 isnβt cheaper?
yes it is
bro. Just buy a prebuilt omen computer, they're cheap and of high quality π
they are 60 dollars here lol
I have 10 year old hp laptop
'sup lin
You want to kill that person? π
can spiders be trusted?
maybe, you don't have proofs
probooks are ok
yes
Iβll stand by omen build quality
Their bloat is absurd though
Knew you'll notice me, just bored
Bought hawaii pizza for lunch, yum
yeah I have one, it's fine
Actually I do π
I always notice my buddies
oh damn hawaiian ? That stuff is just soo good
last probook i had i was able to remove whole bottom cover and swap ram without tools
and it had socketed cpu
Eh Iβve had my omen laptop for 3 years now and itβs survived 20 countries and ship life
I have elitebook and I can swap cpu
I love to eat salty and sweet mixed
gg
elitebook is probook+
Yep, yep, I like pineapple on pizza, it's not bad at all
Sometimes sameee
Pineapple user detected
yeah man that bloat is just π
yeah they can, how many person do you think spiderman saved ?
damn I'm surprised Wikipedia is only 88 Gigabytes
it's super good, people who say it's bad are weird
thats why you format the drive before use
Umu!
yeah, English Wikipedia with maxi images
mini images is ~40GB
lmao
where were u when i needed help? π
Damn
How to identify a legit rolex watch?
Buy from rolex
With USB sticks it's actually completely feasible to carry Wikipedia with you
...
π€·ββοΈ
I'm trying to identify a already bought rolex.
these offline wikipedia dumps have even been used to smuggle information about the outside world to dissidents in North Korea, which is pretty awesome
I'm in France homie, can't be everywhere
imagine learning about free civilization from wikipedia
Take it to a shop
buy a gpu instead π€
how hard could it be to smuggle micro sd card
With cavity searches? Very
the point is that data storage has gotten very dense
Santa Clause somehow manages it
gpu don't last long but rolex does π π
gpu can last 20 years
Rolex is the poor manβs idea of luxury
put it in phone and use tape to cover contacts so its disconnected
